Josh Goleman is a photographer and cinematographer based in Brooklyn, NY. He splits his time between shooting stills and motion while focusing on adventure and music. About The Artwork During a long road trip through the States and Mexico, a break in California included some visits to the Fillmore West in San Francisco to listen to Miles Davis who played a four day gig with his sextet. On day one ( May 6, 1971) I photographed a series of images - hardly ever published. William Claxton was not unlike the pictures he took over a half-century: peripatetic, loose, inventive, authentic. Come to think of it, that made Claxton, who died on October 13, 2008, at age 80, a lot like jazz (his second love, after the camera). In 1961, Claxton published Jazzlife, an encyclopedic compendium of the Giants of Cool. Here are excerpts from Taschen’s 2005 reissue.
