If you love whimsical garden items, you'll adore this DIY fairy house made out of only a terra cotta pot and a few simple decorations!
How To Make A Fairy House With Twigs and Moss Lately I'm obsessed with fairy gardens and houses and tiny little fairy furniture. These fun little structures make a great project to do with children or just for the child in you. I've made a few fairy structures and furniture pieces, and even a fairy door for a tree. But today, we'll focus on making a fairy house. Here is what you'll need: Twigs Moss Acorns Small Pine Cones Bark Glue (I used Gorilla glue) Air-Dry Clay Cardboard (like from a box) Large Masking Tape (optional) Pruning Shears (optional) If you're gathering items from nature, you might consider baking them before you use them to get the critters and critter eggs out. I did. I lined baking sheets with foil and baked at 225 F degrees for an hour. Use your judgement here. Baking twigs, acorns, pine cones, bark, etc. worked fine for me. I even baked a few fall leaves. Again, use your best judgement so as not to cause fires, etc. Step 1: Clay & Cardboard Cut a piece of cardboard into the size & shape you want for your house. I just used a piece of a box flap and cut into a rough circle shape. Next, use your air-dry clay to make a ring around the box, wrapping it underneath and making it thick on top (so you can push your twigs into it). It's easiest to work in small sections and just use your fingers to blend and work the clay as you go along. This makes a solid base for your structure. Step 2: Twigs Using your hands or a cutting tool, cut/snap the twigs until they are roughly the size you want for your fairy house. I recommend about 6-10 twigs for this, but you can decide what works for you. Place a drop of glue on the end of your twig, then press each twig into the clay around the edges of your cardboard and angle them so they meet in the middle like a tee-pee. If more clay is needed, you can add it around the base of each twig. Step 3: (Hardest Part) Let it dry overnight. Step 4: (Funnest Part) Start Decorating! Roof & Floor I added large masking tape to the tops of my branches to create a larger surface for attaching my bark "roof". I made sure the tape wrapped around and stuck to itself, not just to the branches as it might fall off. Cut pieces of bark using your hands to snap them or cutting tools (such as wire cutters or pruning shears). Attach the bark to the top of your structure. Don't worry if you have a few gaps. You can fill them in with moss. Also, add bark pieces to the floor using glue. Again, don't worry about gaps. Step 4: Moss Using super glue OR hot glue and some kind of craft stick or tweezers, begin tucking moss into all the cracks and crevices and gluing it into place. Also, cover all of the exposed clay at the base of your house with moss. Step 5: Steps Build twig "steps" for your fairy house by breaking a few twigs and gluing them to the house. Start with one twig on the doorstep, then glue another twig and another until you have the desired amount of steps. Step 6: Finishing Touches Time to use pine cones, acorns, dried flowers, etc., to create your own unique touches. Consider making an interesting embellishment above the door. Add some fancy dried flowers or twigs next to the steps. You could also make a candle stand. Pretty rocks, crystals, etc., also make fun additions. Use your imagination! And you're all done. You have a beautiful fairy house for your fairy friends. I've used mine in a terrarium in my home, but you could also place yours outside in a garden or in the woods. I'm not sure how long it would withstand the elements, but if it doesn't last long, that's just an excuse to make another one! :) Happy creating!
Create your own tiny, adorable fairy and her sweet little home. *PLEASE NOTE* These are SMALL. The entire set will fit in the palm of your hand. I love putting cute things in my houseplants' pots, and these are the perfect size. **ALSO NOTE** You do NOT need to be a professional crafter or artist to be able to put these kits together. However, it is best if you have some level of comfortability with a hot glue gun. Also, due to the small size of several of the pieces included with each kit, this project is geared towards adults and older children (maybe 12 and up), not littles. Every kit includes all the components to create the house and one fairy, one paint pot strip containing 6 colors, 2 different brushes, sandpaper, liquid glue, AND a detailed instruction sheet, complete with color photos of each step. I used a combination of liquid glue and hot glue when I made the ones shown. Liquid glue IS included in each kit. ** Hot glue guns and glue sticks are available for purchase as an add-on in each listing. ** The shades of paint included were very carefully selected to produce the best overall colors when used individually or when mixed together to create secondary colors. Anything in the listing photos that has been painted was done with these colors. ** Each Fairy House listing contains the option to purchase additional fairies. The fairy for each kit comes with the wings shown in the listing photo. Each additional fairy will be given a different style of wing. If you prefer to have them all the same, please send me a message in the "notes to seller" box at checkout. ** More styles of fairy houses and a variety of add-ons are available in separate listings in my shop!

I love autumn and all the fall colors. When I saw Bo Bunny's Autumn Song paper I just knew I had to have it - the colors are so vibrant. And then Laura Denison of Following the Paper Trail decided to showcase her Autumn Fairy house pattern with this paper collection. When Laura previewed the house on her blog (lauradenisondesigns.com) I was just blown away, and couldn't wait to make it. The house itself is fun with its curlicue dormers and rolled shingles. But the stump and the tree that it is built into - what a fantastic idea! I do so love her designs. I added a couple of my own touches - the wraparound curved balcony with the twig railing and a couple of extra staircases. So let's look at some closeups... Here is the right side of the house. You can see how the stump grows up into the tree and how the fairy house fits right up against the tree. The stump and tree were made with brown lunch sack papier mache - Laura has an excellent video on this technique. All of the bark details on the tree were made with Light Molding Paste and a "Funny Brush" - yes, that is the actual name of the brush. It has rubber bristles and is excellent for creating texture. You can see one of the stairs I added - just paper leaves attached to a twig that fit nicely along the side of the tree. And do you see the little owl sitting inside a knot hole? Here's a closeup of the stump under the porch. Here is a bird's-eye view of the front door and front porch area. I wanted to bring more texture and "tree" up around the house, so I increased the size of the balcony and have it wrapping around three sides of the house. I had a sack of twigs and I decided to use them to make the fence around the balcony. The slate walkway and the grass were formed using the Light Molding Paste and the "Funny Brush". Here's the left side of the house. Because of the reflection, you can's see that the windows actually look like stained glass. The house lights up with space for several LED tea lights in the main room and up in the tower. You can also see the pine cone hanging as a decoration over the front of the house. There's a dark area on the side of the house under the right window - that's a little back door. Now we're looking at the back. You can see how the tree continues up and the tower of the house is part of the tree. I added the third staircase on the end of the porch. That's the "emergency exit" for the back door of the house. It's two twigs with paper covered chipboard steps. You can see two horizontal lines in the tree trunk. In the next photo you will see what that is all about. Yes - a mini album fits inside of the tree! When the album is removed it also provides access to insert the LED tea lights for the tower and the main house. And now for the mini... Here's the cover. You can see one of the red berries from the outside of the spine sticking up at the top. I used lots of the Autumn Song stickers and some die cuts to decorate the mini. There are six pages to the album. You can see the edges of the cardstock pages in this photo. They graduate in all the fall colors. Each page has a pocket on the front with a tag insert. When the page is flipped up, there is an envelope on the back. I decorated the envelope with some of the die cuts and a punched maple leaf (EK Success). Inside of each envelope is a tag with a quote or poem about autumn. The envelope flips out to the right to reveal another pocket with another tag with a poem. (Not pictured) The envelope actually flips one more time to the left to reveal two more sides with die cuts and leaves. I made a couple of videos... ...a 360 tour ... and the mini album
