In a Cotton Field of South Carolina. *************************************** "......On Tuesday, July 30, 2008, the U.S. House of Representatives issued an unprecedented apology to black Americans for the institution of slavery, and the subsequent Jim Crows laws that for years discriminated against blacks as second-class citizens in American society......" NPR www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=93059465&am... Okinawa_Soba has a lot original images of the descendants of slaves in America, as well as several showing actual slaves who were "freed" during the America's Civil War. To match these images, he also has a box of 19th Century and early 20th Century images of "Black Africa", showing the tribes, roots, and culture that is now a universe away from the modern day existence of "African Americans". Behind the faces of these few images I'm posting here, are lives and experiences that most White people in America will never understand -- either then, or now. [This caption is the same for all. 5. Das alles hebt auf einmal auf Und schlägt und drückt es nieder Das Wasserbad der heilgen Tauf, Ersetzt dagegen wieder, Was Adam hat verderbt gemacht Und was wir selbsten durchgebracht Bei unsern bösen Wegen. 6. 10. +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Text: Paul Gerhardt 1667 +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Paul Gerhardt, geb. 1607 in Gräfen- hainichen (Sachsen), Hauslehrer in Berlin, 1651 Propst in Mittenwalde (Mark Branden- burg), 1657 Pfarrer an St. Nikolai in Ber- lin; 1667 seines Amtes enthoben, weil er als überzeugter Lutheraner dem Toleranz- edikt des reformierten Großen Kurfürsten nicht zustimmen konnte, 1669 Archidiakonus in Lübben (Spreewald); dort gest. 1676. Smiths Row, The Market Cross, Cornhill, Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk IP33 1BT Tel: +44 (0) 1284 762081 We are happy to welcome Australian artists Tanya Schultz, Nicole Andrijevic and John Kassab to Smiths Row in what is their first major British show. Schultz and Andrijevic have worked in collaboration since 2007 using the alias Pip & Pop and this is their second collaboration with sound artist Kassab. Sweet sweet galaxy is a unique installation depicting an infinite psychedelic landscape. An amalgamation of numerous materials including coloured sugar, fine sand, cake decorations, origami, found objects, LED lights and sound, this colourful sensory kingdom will be constructed directly in the gallery space in early January. The soundscape, created in collaboration with Melbourne-based John Kassab, adds another layer of immersion to the audience experience and sense of being transported to a faraway or imagined place. Whilst the soundscape adds to the narrative of the imagined landscape, interpreting the sounds with sugar has been central to Pip & Pop's process when working with John. The sugar used in this exhibition has been kindly donated by Silverspoon. As the sole producers of homegrown British sugar the company supports 1200 East Anglian beet farmers. According to Dan Gough of Silverspoon: "the sugar used in this exhibition was grown an average of 30 miles away from the gallery".

Bella Vista Arkansas is proud to be the home of the Mildred B. Cooper Memorial Chapel. The Chapel was created by renowned Arkansas architect Euine Fay Jones. In 1991, Fay Jones was awarded the American Institute of Architecture's highest award, the AIA Gold Metal. Fay was a student of Frank Lloyd Wright where he was first introduced to the principle of Organic Architecture (designing to fit the environment). Built to honor Mildred Borum Cooper, wife of John A. Cooper, Sr., Founder of Cooper Communities, Inc, the Chapel is a fitting memorial. Besides being a devoted wife, mother, and member of the community, Mrs. Cooper had a deep spirituality and love for nature. Her family commissioned the Chapel in her honor to celebrate her life and her dedication to God and his creations.
