From the time I was little, I knew I wanted to be a teacher. It started when I was about eight years old, I helped my little sister sound out letters and put them together to form words. When she first began to read, it was exhilarating! I knew I wanted to do this for the rest of my life. After high school, I went to the University of South Florida and earned my Bachelor’s in Elementary Education. After college, I went to Tulsa to visit my dad who was working with Rhema Ministries. I decided to move there and attend Rhema Bible School. It was an incredible two years where I learned so much more about God and his love for us. After Rhema, I taught fourth grade in the Jenks Public School system and loved my job! I also met and married Ted in Tulsa – but that’s a story for another day. One evening, Ted and I got a call from friends in the Chicago area. They asked if we would want to move to Illinois and serve with them in ministry. They wanted Ted to consider being an Associate/Teaching Pastor and they offered me the role […]

If you're like me, the stress is starting to pile on at the thought of "Holy moly, what am I going to teach and wear and do and buy and make and--" yes, you get the point. Hi everyone, With the start of the new year approaching, I have been thinking about and compiling 'Start of the Year' activities that formulate how the classroom will work cohesively. At the start of each year we revisit all ten Learner Profiles (I teach at an International School that follows the curriculum framework laid out by the IBO). These are then incorporated into all our units, as well as our classroom behaviour contract. This time I created a Mix & Match activity around the Profiles for a group activity. Download FREE from my TpT store - One Teacher's Journey - HERE. Print and cut. Students then attempt to match the pairs in teams. This really forces them to read the definition of each profile and this can lead to good discussions. I printed 6 sets for my class (1 per group) and paper-clipped each set together. I also came across some cute posters created by Andrea Knight for juniors, that inspired this 'Parts of a Learner' poster. This poster is aimed at classrooms from Y4 - Y6. I integrated the essence of the Learner Profiles so that students could see how these related to their daily lives. It can be found in the same product mentioned above. I would love for you to leave a comment below about these resources :) Enjoy!
