Appealing and colourful illustration of a fantasy Island. This is a print of my painting called 'My Own Little Island' - don't you just want to retreat to your own island sometimes?! It is roughly A3 in size, on A3+ matte 315gsm archival paper (329x483mm), printed with lightfast inks. The image is high quality, rich and colourful. It arrives unframed and flat with recycled greyboard backing in a cellophane sleeve. Items overseas will be rolled and mailed in a postal tube. A3+ frames can be found online, without a mount. Or the print can be taped to a mount in 40 x 50cm (20x16”) frame.
I have some exciting news! Well, exciting for me anyway. I finally have my own work/craft room! Like most moms, I do my crafts and sewing on whatever counter space is available. I cut my fabric on the living room floor...sew on the dinning table...paint in the sun room. All of my supplies are spread throughout the house and when it comes time to use it, I can never find them. We have a small ranch style home with not a lot of room to spare. There are three bed rooms for each one of us, a living room,a dinning room,a kitchen and then a room that could be qualified as a sun room. The biggest room in our house used to be a garage then the previous owner turned it into a family room but never put in a radiator. We have to use a space heater to warm up the room. I turned that room into the girls' playroom but they never go in it. So I dream and dream of a little space that was all my own...surrounded by things I love. But it was just a dream. Then about a few weeks ago, the girls decided they want to share a room and they have been sleeping in my older daughter, Bella's room. A little light bulb in my head went off. I can put all of their toys into Aurora's room and turn their huge playroom into my work studio! So that is what I have been doing for the last week...a lot of moving things around and painting and planning the set up of the room. There are so many inspirations on Pinterest. Servus, hi and welcome! I am so glad you're stopping by! Today I have a little somethin' to share with you that I had wanted to do for a long time...but haven't dared to approach...until now! Fans of the awesomely charming and fun TV series "Warehouse 13" already know what I am talking about as they know that awesome steampunk-ish communications device that Archie's team use to update each other on the latest artefacts and their powers and effects - the Farnsworth! And here's my version of it - made from an altered tin. It is my project for this month's "Anything Goes - Steampunk/Industrial" challenge over at SanDee&amelie's Steampunk Challenges - and I would love to see you play along with us soon! Don't ask me who this guy is that's talking on the phone...I haven't seen him before...maybe a new member of Archie's crew... I started by searching my bits 'n bobs box for small buttons, screws and switches that I could use for my Farnsworth. A watch glass from my old watchmaker's cabinet was perfect for the little circle screen and the light bulb was turned from white to red using alcohol ink. To help the DecoArt Metallic Lustre adhere to the tin I first gave everything a coat of matte DecoArt Decou-Page and then a coat of DecoArt media black Gesso. That luckily provided enough tooth for the Lustre to cling to. I used the Metallic Lustre like paint - applying it with a soft wide flat brush. I cut out the openings for the light bulb and for the speaker. Then I glued on all the pieces after I had "engraved" the "Farnsworth" logo using a black ball pen. I stacked some thick corrugated card pieces to insert my finished operations board into the tin and added four gold half pears around the circle screen. Voila! This is the size of my Farnsworth - a bit small, but I couldn't find a larger tin so far. So a mini version will have to do for now. It was great fun to make and the result looks astonishingly convincing! Those rugs are hand woven by my mother and are 100%natural wool from home sheep. The wool fabrics are died with natural and vegan paint, ecologically sourced. The rugs are made in a little village in Bulgaria. Each rug has it's own story told by the colours ,swirls and patterns. They are made on this flat for knitting and come in 3 sizes. I have a little squirrel friend who comes to my kitchen window every morning to ask for her nuts. (I'm lucky to live in a basement, garden flat in London) It sits eating a Pecan that I throw him while I put the rest of them out. He then looks gratefully at me for a minute then dives acrobatically through the trees. 'nice one" or " Peace" he seems to say to me. leaving me grateful and lifted by our encounter.

This past school year Ella’s first grade teacher (the fabulous Mrs. Harris) read the students a book called Flat Stanley by Jeff Brown. The book is about a young boy who gets flattened when a bulletin board falls on him. Seriously…I don’t make this stuff up. After he gets flattened he gets mailed all over the place to have adventures. The children then made their own Flat Stanley dolls and mailed them to someone they know who lives far away. Ella mailed three flat Stanley dolls…one to my cousin Anna and her husband Steve in Madison, Wisconsin, one to my cousin Brian in Dublin, Ireland, and one to my Uncle Tom in Washington DC. Her Stanley dolls had some fun adventures and then were mailed back to her school with postcards, letters, maps, pictures, books, and more. My cousin Brian’s package just happened to arrive on St. Patrick’s Day! This wonderful literacy-based lesson helped the students learn about the world around them, as each Flat Stanley package was shared with the students as they arrived. PDF knitting pattern to make a Spuddy stuffed toy. My little granddaughter is mad about a certain cartoon character. I wanted to buy her a cuddly toy version but having looked everywhere online, was unable to find anything. So I came up with Spuddy, my own interpretation of the supermarket hero. Happily, she loved him as soon as she saw him, so I thought I'd share the pattern for anyone else out there searching for something similar. Spuddy is worked in DK acrylic yarn, mainly on straight single point needles (DPNs being used for the starting rounds at the base of the body). The eyes & mouth are in felt, stitched onto the main body. The remaining pieces are all worked flat & stitched to finish. This pattern would be suitable for a competent beginner or an intermediate knitter and comes with row by row instructions & plenty of photos for reference.
