I love the term eclectic style. I feel like it coexists in the same style universe as maximalist fashion but is a bit less. A few weeks ago on my Instagram stories, I posted about asking what your three style adjectives were.
Explore an abundance of eclectic decor pieces that will make your space feel expensive for an affordable price!
Many people do not want to conform to a particular design style - they prefer to appreciate architecture, furniture, and decor from many different styles. An eclectic design style (a mix of different styles) can look very cohesive and artistic or it can look very junky and juvenile. Here are some interior designer tips for obtaining a cohesive eclectic home design. Purge the Junk, Keep the QualityMake sure all of your eclectic pieces are quality and not hand me down junk. If it is broken, fix it or get rid of it. Refinish or reupholster any quality pieces of furniture to give them your eclectic design flair. You can put modern fabric on a vintage chair or paint a traditional piece of furniture a bright bold color. Bigger objects demand attention. Photo by Rachel Reider Interiors - Browse living room photos Nothing Too OrnateAvoid items that are very ornate with many fussy carved details or intricate patterns. Fussy and intricate items tend to make an eclectic design feel messy. Stick with simple high quality items with some detailing, but nothing that looks like it belongs in a palace somewhere. Use unique colors like turquoise, emerald green, magenta, and chartreuse instead of the primary colors of red, blue, and yellow. You can paint a wall or a larger piece of furniture a bold color for wow factor. A collection of items can feel like one larger item as long as it is contained. Avoid more than one collection per room. If you have many favorite eclectic things, consider displaying them at different times so your home does not feel like a thrift store. You can use a multi colored rug #ad or colorful chandelier #ad where all the other eclectic items in the room have colors found in the rug or chandelier that makes them cohesive. If you want a one of a kind eclectic design, select vintage furniture, accessories, and/or lighting. Most vintage items of lower quality have been discarded, so the majority of what is left is high quality. If the retro style appeals to you, then it is worth keeping. Consider the shape of the item and whether it can be painted or reupholstered to make it more appealing to you.
A couple of days ago, I felt like throwing on some random pieces and heading out for drinks with my guy. It was one of those days when I felt a little bit more playful than usual, and I didn't care if my look was too much for the streets of my small downtown. Everything was from a different era or style, but for some reason, they looked coordinated. I believe since the last time you saw this jacket on this blog; I've added a couple more patches and a cute pin. This jacket is a cool 80's DIY idea that you should try with a denim jacket or jeans. My tip for making this jacket very personal is to ensure you find patches that tell about the things that you like in life. I must confess, this jacket has been a great conversation piece wherever I go. If you are in the mood for getting to know new people, I assure you that this type of garment will help you to introduce yourself. Today I'm wearing: Denim Jacket: Gap. Skirt: Vintage. Similar here. Hat: Scala (I wear Medium) Sunglasses: House of Harlow. Similar here. Espadrilles: Castañer. T-shirt: H&M. Bag: Carlos Falchi (vintage). Found one similar from same collection here. Bangles: Vintage. Pendant: Vintage. Similar here.

Style Personality Series Happy day, friend! Welcome to the fourth installment in this style personality series! If you missed the first three installments, you can read the Introduction and about Classic Style, Relaxed Style and Dramatic Style by clicking the links. Think of each of the (Arche)Types presented as an extreme, or caricature. It’s important to remember that NO ONE is only one personality style! Every woman (and man) is a unique combinations of personality characteristics, likes, dislikes, and preferences, and will interpret differently. You may love the colors of one style, the fabrics of a second, and the lines and accessories of a third. Combining the elements makes your style uniquely you! As always, please feel free to Pin what you love and share with your friends on social media. I love to meet new people! And your introduction to others is good for me and for the blog. When it comes to style, personality trumps all. That’s because style is your personality and preferences expressed through what you wear on your body. Everyone has a personality, so EVERYONE has a style, even if they aren’t aware of what it is! Or haven’t taken the time to discover who they are… Today’s personality style is all about exploration and creativity. The Creative woman is often mistaken for the Dramatic. The difference is in the intention! Ms/Miss/Mr (She may change titles at whim.) Creative wears what she wants and how she wants. Often in ways you never would imagine. Why not turn your cardigan upside down and wear it as trousers? She’s not in it to shock, but because she wants to express herself and play with something new. Creative may be colorful one day, and monochromatic the next. You never know what she will wear; it may not even be clothing! (To confuse the matter, some Creatives are Dramatic, and some Dramatics are Creative!) If we are thinking about adjectives, Ms. Creative is quirky or exploratory rather than Ms. Dramatic’s fierce. Let’s start with colors. (For Ms. Creative, the structure we’ve been using will begin to falter!) Ms. Creative will choose whatever color catches her eye, usually combined in combinations you would never expect: orange and purple? Why not? All the colors at once? Possibly. No color at all? That, too. You can never guess what she will choose for the day. Patterns and prints will often reflect artistic themes: line drawings, abstract prints, art prints, type or color charts, geometric shape studies, and hand painted or dyed textiles. Ms. Creative also has a variable comfort meter: she may be willing to be incredibly uncomfortable for her art (if that’s how she sees her outfit for the day), or comfort and ease of movement may be paramount for her to create. Ms. Creative often makes (or adapts) her own clothes. She is often a thrift or op-shopper. She has more important things to spend her money on, and besides, Ms. Creative does NOT want to be seen in the same things everyone else is wearing. (Pulling together her outfits from standard retail sources is a challenge!) Upcycle and DIY are her watchwords. Texture, color, structure, architecture. Any of these may be the reason Ms. Creative chooses to buy a piece. Ms. Creative is most often a Mood Dresser, choosing her pieces and ensemble by the day. (The thought of choosing an outfit the night before is ridiculous!) She may dress for artistic effect, or simply to please herself. Ms. Creative may look sleek and architectural one day, hippie fairy the next, and like a bag lady the day after. She may even change the way the pieces are worn during the day if the whim takes her. The pullover sweater she put on in the morning may be yanked down to the waist to be a skirt in the afternoon. Nothing is as it seems, and any combination is possible. As long as it’s within her aesthetic! Expect the unexpected. Like her mood and sartorial choices, Ms. Creative’s grooming will also be a surprise. Artificial hair and makeup colors are no stranger, nor is a bare face. I know a Creative who does amazing things with makeup! Her face is her canvas and makeup her palette. I’m sure that to some, her clothing looks like a rainbow train wreck, but it’s perfect for her. I’d hate to see her try and look like Ms. Relaxed or Classic. It would be like turning off the sun! How about you? Do you have any Creative in you? Or does the whole vibe stress you out? More subdued or relaxed Creatives are often surprised at the attention and/or comments their ensembles can draw. They just wore what they wanted. Doesn’t everyone? Let me know your thoughts in the comments below… I do love to hear from you! Stylishly yours,
