Renaissance Europe was not a promising place for female artists to emerge. Women were expected to marry and have children, and those who did work were not welcomed into male-dominated professions. In fact women were unable to even receive formal art...

Women’s Linen Shirt Short Medieval Chemise Based on a variety of XV and XVI century shirts, this short chemise combines the best of all of the designs we researched to create a versatile shirt that will be a staple in anyone’s festival garb. It was made to go with our “Dark Star” collection of beautiful feminine armor and gambesons. This collection is meant for anyone who is looking to make a style statement and dress in a more masculine fashion! There are a number of different uses for a shorter chemise, the first being that it allows people with feminine body types to still dress in a masculine way. Medieval men’s clothing doesn’t usually fit female body types very well, and it is rare to find something that has been designed to be flattering and comfortable. This shirt can also be used as a sleeping dress and would be a great medieval alternative to a traditional nightdress. As a third option, this can be worn as a regular chemise during the summer when you need something to line your arms and neckline, but don’t want to be weighed down or heated up by additional bulk around your skirts. This shirt has a gathered neckline with many delicate pleats, which come together with two ribbon. The shirt is not low cut, but it is also not high. The sleeves puff out and come to a close at the wrists with cuffs that also have many beautiful pleats. This shirt is very functional but also has breathtaking finishing and fine details, including very well finished seams and edges. Made from soft 100% fine flax linen, this shirt is an excellent first layer. Our fine linen is soft and breezy, wicking sweat and also providing some natural insulation on colder nights. Linen is a fantastic fabric that softens up with time, setting into lovely wrinkles that give the piece character. Linen also tends to relax as you wear it, shaping to your body perfectly as it stretches and moves. This shirt is the perfect base layer for anyone looking to build a costume that is both masculine and feminine. To check how to measure yourself please click here.
