When the temperatures in Provence get too much to handle, as they did a couple of weeks ago, it can be hard to know what to do with yourself. The mercury rises, the breeze dies leaving you hardly able to breathe, never mind move or think. But I know a great little place to cool off. […]

The other night I instagrammed this photo from a gorgeous sunset down by the Stono River. It was such a treat not to have a big storm at night and have the chance to go for a little scenic walk around Robbie's neighborhood. I just had to share a little bit of the beauty of the Lowcountry with y'all today! I was loving the reflections of the gorgeous clouds on the water in the marshes!

A collection of photos and info on the most beautiful castles in France, including some of the top French chateaux.
Via en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lion_Monument The Lion lies in his lair in the perpendicular face of a low cliff — for he is carved from the living rock of the cliff. His size is colossal, his attitude is noble. His head is bowed, the broken spear is sticking in his shoulder, his protecting paw rests upon the lilies of France. Vines hang down the cliff and wave in the wind, and a clear stream trickles from above and empties into a pond at the base, and in the smooth surface of the pond the lion is mirrored, among the water-lilies. Around about are green trees and grass. The place is a sheltered, reposeful woodland nook, remote from noise and stir and confusion — and all this is fitting, for lions do die in such places, and not on granite pedestals in public squares fenced with fancy iron railings. The Lion of Lucerne would be impressive anywhere, but nowhere so impressive as where he is. — Mark Twain, A Tramp Abroad, 1880
The delightfully eccentric gardens of Roseburg are founded on the remains of a 16th century castle, occupying a limestone ridge in foothills of the Harz. The site was acquired in 1905 by the architect Bernhard Sehring (1855-1941), who began to turn it into a true folly loosely modeled as a mock medieval fortification including turrets, drawbridges and 1600 meters of perimeter wall with embrasures. Later additions expanded the gardens across the site, were elements of renaissance, mannerist, baroque and landscape garden styles are mixed at will and combined with art deco architectural gestures. A belvedere tower, with an open air library and mausoleum grotto, is placed at the top of the site, forming the offset for a 100 meter terraced water axis or catena d’aqua, concluding in a raised plateau overlooking the countryside. A wealth of sculpture (including an army of putti) and architecture is found everywhere in the garden, which surprises at every turn and appears much larger than it actually is. This is a truly unique layout, reminiscent only of equally spleeny endeavors such as Gabrielle d’Annunzios ‘Il Vittoriale’ on Lago Garda , Dr. Peyrons villa in Fiesole , or Sir Clough Williams-Ellis’ Portmeiron on the Welsh coast.

This church looks short and squat from the outside and sits uncomfortably in it's little square, bulging, an ugly duckling! The exterior fails to suggest any majesty compared to Vienna's other large palaces of worship such as Stephandom & Karlskirche, but then you go inside! The baroque interior is so busy and heavy with detail that it is impossible to take in what you are seeing. You need to take a picture so that you can study it later and decipher the church's mysteries... or alternatively sit through a very long service!
Explore Frontpage Please take your time... to View the Gannets large on black A short walk visiting Neist Point most western point on Skye. A place to look out for breaching fins and blows in the sea. Have a look at the walking route. This is one of the best places imaginable for watching the sunset. But not today as it began to rain when we reached the lighthouse. There was a stormy wind. This spectacular headland is a good place for bird, dolphins and whale-watchers. We saw the beautiful Gannets flying. The Northern Gannet is a seabird and is the largest member of the gannet family. Adults are 90-100 cm long and have a 170-180 cm wingspan. The head and neck are brushed in a delicate yellow and quite easy to recognize. Their breeding range is the North Atlantic. They normally nest on cliffs overlooking the ocean or on small rocky islands like here on the Isle of Skye. Photo of the Northern Gannets at point Neist most Western point of the Isle of Skye. At the lighthouse we saw waves of 10 meters high smashing the coastline. The stormy wind up here almost blew my camera from my neck!!!
