Year in and year out, nothing says New England like a Cape Cod house.
This antique cape style house underwent a complete renovation and addition by Smith & Vansant Architects, located in the countryside of Norwich, Vermont.
Wind and water fuel the narrative of Bristol, Rhode Island. There’s a reason so many winning America’s Cup yachts were built here. “Narragansett Bay is the ‘it’ place for wind,” says Joanne Murrman, a docent at Linden Place, the graceful Federal mansion in the heart of downtown. And even when you’re not on it, the […]

above: VT Wonen Magazine Last time we took a look at the earthy style of the Southwest, but this time I’d like to venture into the opposite corner of the U.S. and talk about interiors with New England style. Fresh coastal-inspired colors and nautical influences are the hallmark of New England style, but I wanted to…
This must be Rose Cottage. I've never even heard of this hamlet but now I must go. Blaise Hamlet is a hamlet in north-west Bristol England, composed of a complex of small cottages around a green. They were built around 1811 for retired employees of Quaker banker and philanthropist John Scandrett Harford, who owned Blaise Castle House. The hamlet was designed by John Nash, master of the Picturesque style. He had worked for Harford on other buildings. The cottages are now owned by the National Trust. They are still occupied and not open to the public, but the ensemble may be viewed from the outside. All the cottages, and the sundial on the green (which is accessible to the public), are Grade I listed buildings. Rose Cottage is now rented out by the National Trust as a holiday cottage. image source There is a composit of all the cottages HERE on Flickr. What a wonderful man John Harford must have been. The whole concept gives me goose bumps, and knowing he carried it out is simply wonderful. This must be one of the most charming places in all of England. Have a great weekend.

Summer isn't the only season to enjoy a coastal getaway. These New England hotels make for great off-season vacations in the fall and winter.
It has been pouring rain for the last 2 days so I thought I would show you my back wall. The botanical print of a Jack in the Pulpit wildflower in top center is a rather new purchase and I like it there. I had a very large framed antique map there shown in my last photo. It had been there for 20 years and I thought it was time for a change to show more of my paneled wall. The small oil painting underneath was taken from another room. Closer view of both artworks. This is an old photo showing the antique map. The new botanical is hanging on the same picture hook if I ever want to put it back. I don't think I ever will though because I like showcasing my custom woodwork. The first two photos were taken with a newer iPhone camera and the wall color is truer. This older iPhone photo has more of a green tinge. My woodwork is painted with Benjamin Moore Bennington Gray and it's a true putty color. April Showers are right on time this. I'm so glad Easter Sunday was a beautiful day and I hope you all enjoyed the day whether or not you celebrated. XO
I recently got the wild hair to strip our fireplace. It’s actually something I’ve wanted to do since day one but didn’t quite have the time in the initial renovation process. Ever since then I’ve wondered what the wood actually looked like under the paint. It was painted white when we purchased the house but ... More than 4 billion people live in urban areas globally. It’s now projected that by 2050, more than two-thirds of the world population will live in urban areas. So no wonder we pay more importance to the buildings and structures around us.

Autumn in New England, Old Deerfield, MA. There is nothing more beautiful or tranquil than autumn in New England. Historic Old Deerfield is one of my top go to places to visit for color and history. It really gives Samhain a totally different feel.
