Well, well, well ... I crafted this past weekend and it was GREAT!! I FiNALLY cleaned my craft room (which hasn't been done since before I made my Christmas cards!)! I really need to stay on top of it FOR REAL this time ... it's much more fun to create when you can actually find your stuff!! This week the Monday Montage girls have once again hit it out of the park! I used a fun layout I saw on YouTube by Lisa Curcio. It was so much fun and I really enjoyed creating it (so much so that I made two different ones ... I'll share the other one with you later this week)! It's kind of a card within a card within a card. Here's the card all closed up. I used images from Country Flowers which I colored with my Stampin' Blends. Note: The deeper-colored yellow flowers were created by first coloring them Bubble Bath, but I decided I didn't love that; so I colored with Daffodil Delight on top of that which gave me a deeper orange-y yellow color which I really quite like! This is the second layer. By lifting the top flap this "card inside the card" becomes exposed. I used one of the Brilliant Backgrounds Dies to give the Garden Green strip some texture. The Basic White Background was brought to life using the 3D Eyelet Embossing Folder (which I preordered from the new and upcoming catalog!). Opening the card once more reveals the "final" inside, where I stamped a sentiment on one of the shapes from the Stylish Shapes Dies. I added a few of the flower dies for accent. I left enough empty space so that I can write a little note when I sent this cutie out. Here's a view from side so you can see all the pretty layers. The measurements you will need are as follows: BASE: - Daffodil Delight: 4 1/4" x 11", score at 5 1/2" - Cut off 2 3/4" on one end for TOP - Designer Series Paper (top): 2 1/2" x 4 1/8” - Designer Series Paper (inside): 4” x 5 1/4" TOP: - Daffodil Delight: 2 3/4" x 4 1/4" - Basic White: 2 5/8” x 4 1/8” - Designer Series Paper: 2 1/2" x 4” INSIDE CARD: - Daffodil Delight: 3 1/4" x 10”, score at 5” - Garden Green: 3 1/8" x 2" - Basic White 3 1/8” x 4 7/8”, cut 2 Isn't this the FUNNEST???? I haven't done a good "funky fold" card in quite some time! This one was very satisfying! Lesson idea from Art. Paper. Scissors. Glue! 3rd graders started a conversation about what textile arts are by reading the book "Tar Beach" by author and artist Faith Ringgold. We talked about how the book and its illustrations were actually inspired by a story quilt that Ringgold created (the original work is pictured in the back of the book I had). The story in the book brought up the themes of both inequality (which works well since February is Black History Month) and imagination. The book's main character 3rd grader Cassie Louise Lightfoot discovers she has the ability to fly and in doing so, finds a sense of power and ownership over whatever she flies. She flies over the George Washington Bridge (a structure her father helped to build), an ice cream factory, and the Union Building (a building which housed an organization her father was not allowed to join because of his skin color). After reading and discussing the themes in the book, I asked my 3rd graders "Where would you go if you could fly (real or imaginary) and why?" This question was the inspiration for our very own patches on our 3rd grade story quilt. Students created their own "story patches" by creating a border using squares of 1.5"x1.5" decorative paper along the edge of a 12" x 12" piece of white drawing paper. Students then attached a strip of grey paper to the bottom of their picture squares and wrote about where they would go and why. Then in the remaining space, they used colored pencils to illustrate their ideas. I got a huge range of responses from Candyland (naturally to eat a ton of candy), to Columbia (to visit friends and family), to the Twin Towers in New York City (which prompted an entirely difference conversation). Students really enjoyed working on this project (which took between 4-5 class periods -- including one day for sketching ideas). I really love the finished product - and even more so when they are all hung together to make a giant story quilt! :)

Designing a family home is challenging because the family's needs change as they grow, that's why you have to plan for change.

The title of Hanya Yanagihara’s second work of fiction stands in almost comical contrast to its length: at 720 pages, it’s one of the biggest novels to be published this year. To this literal girth there has been added, since the book appeared in March, the metaphorical weight of several prestigious award nominations. Both the size of A Little Life and the impact it has had on readers and critics alike—a best seller, the book has received adulatory reviews in The New Yorker, The Atlantic, The Wall Street Journal, and other serious venues—reflect, in turn, the largeness of the novel’s themes.
ENEMIES TO LOVERS Waverly Whitlock, a muggle-born Hufflepuff and Draco Malfoy, a cunning Pure-blood Slytherin, have absolutely loathed each together since first year. They're now in fifth year, and Malfoy seems to take the bullying to a whole new level, and for the first time since they met, his words actually hurt her feelings. ----------------------- This story will have smut, swearing & I'll try and make each chapter a few thousand words, but I'll try and update whenever possible. But definitely AT LEAST every three days <3
