Ocean acidification poses an increasing threat to the sediments that form the framework of coral reefs - within around 30 years, these carbonate sands may no longer be able to form.

This fun Australia Day tribute to one Australia’s most beautiful icons – the Great Barrier Reef, will keep the kids busy researching, making and playing for ages! Step 1 : Paint the main scene Gather everything you will need & begin by painting your egg cartons .We used white and blue paint on one to represent water, and mixed blue, yellow, white and metallic green paint on the other for the reef. Allow to dry. Step 2: Decorate your sea floor Once dry, use 3D Paint to decorate your scene and make it more interesting. While you’ve got the 3D paint out, cut out some shapes from craft foam and decorate for the Plate Coral. Step 3: Make reef coral, plants & creatures Now for the really fun part! We cut out different shapes of pipecleaners for Anenome Coral and Soft Coral. Step 4: Complete your Coral Reef When dry, glue your Coral Plates to your reef. Ask an adult for some help to make holes in the reef and water egg cartons using skewers, and attach your pipe cleaner corals to the reef too. Make sure to leave some free holes for your Reef creatures! Step 5: Decorate your creatures! Print and colour in the creatures on our downloadable activity sheet below, and cut them out. If you’re feeling very arty you could even draw some of your own! Fold them along the top line in half. Ask an adult to help you cut some skewers to various sizes, and glue to the top of skewers of craft sticks. Step 6: Enjoy! Download this info as a takeaway PDF

The Story I go whale watching every year before COVID and I love seeing the whale. The magnificent creature is so beautiful and calm. Every time I see them they put things perspective - we human are so small and sometimes we just like to amplify every single problems that we have. At the end of the day, we are part of the earth, and we are only a tiny little dust in this universe. This print is also inspired by the World Ocean Day and I really hope that we can do more to save our ocean. This is also about the beautiful connection between human and the ocean. With 90% of big fish populations depleted, and 50% of coral reefs destroyed, we are taking more from the ocean than can be replenished. **Frame NOT included.
Yesterday (Saturday) my sister-in-law and I took ourselves off to our second workshop for the Melbourne Satellite Reef Project. We were like two little kids with a bunch of brand new toys – …
If we continue spewing pollution into the atmosphere, our climate will only continue to change, and the oceans will be very different than they are today. Ocean temperatures will rise, and with that, rising PH levels will make the water more acidic. It's simple chemistry and a sad fact. So how do we solve this problem? Artist and ocean advocate Courtney Mattison has made it the mission of her ceramic sculptures to remind us of the ocean's beauty and inspire preservation. Her "Changing Seas " series, previously featured on our blog, is Mattison's first major work towards this goal.

From minifigure hair and headgear, to hot dogs and leaves, the build feels like a game of I SPY! We tried our best to call out some of our favourite parts used—some of which are exceedingly rare! We also pointed out some of the techniques used including an approach to colour that can be useful for any kind of build. Which part of the b

Installed earlier this month on the western coastline of New Providence in Nassau, Bahamas, “Ocean Atlas,” is the lastest underwater sculpture by artist Jason deCaires Taylor (previously), known for his pioneering effort to build submerged sculpture parks in oceans around the world. Taylor’s cement figures are constructed with a sustainable pH-neutral material that encourages the growth of coral and other marine wildlife, effectively forming an artificial reef that draws tourists away from diving hotspots in over-stressed areas.
