My first week of gluten free, sugar free diet was not as difficult as I thought it would be. I got to eat GF chickpea crepes lasagna, GF parantha made from ragi flour, tandoori chicken with zucchini noodles and a black bean corn tortilla casserole. But from today onwards I go raw for a week. I have been posting about my adventures in gluten free and sugar free cooking on my Facebook page and this week you will see how my Going Raw cleanse works out. Today I made homemade almond milk and had it with some crushed cardamom, saffron and pistachios. For lunch, I made a raw cauliflower "couscous" salad which was pretty good, although I have to admit I miss eating something warm and cooked. It's just my first day and I have six more to go. This week is going to be difficult. And posting pictures of this potato salad is not helping. Not helping at all! I know I am late posting for this time's swap. I really thought I would get my act together and post in time for the swap (since I missed out on the last one), but somehow like always I left everything to the last minute! For this month, Christianna asked us to post our takes on a recipe for Russian salad that she got from a vintage cookbook find of hers. My mom used to make this really creamy russian salad when I was younger and serve at parties. It would always get rave reviews. She never put potatoes in the salad, which now I find odd because Russians love their potatoes, so I am assuming a salad called Russian, should have that starchy root. Anyway, my mom's didn't but it was still really good. I called my mom to ask for the recipe. I also remember her making this potato walnut salad and somehow the conversation went to that salad, and how good it was- the end result, I ended up making a potato walnut salad instead of my mom's russian salad. My mom used homemade mayo in the recipe, but I used store bought and reduced half of the amount with hung yogurt. I also added a little parsley and toasted the walnuts, both adding to the flavors in this salad. Its a quick and easy salad that is a prefect side to plenty dishes. Potato Walnut Salad Prep time: 10 mins Cook time: 30 mins Total time: 40 mins Serves: 3 Ingredients 1 potato, boiled 1/4 cup hung yogurt 2 heaping tbsp light mayo 1 tsp mustard 1 tsp vinegar 1 tsp garlic powder 1 tsp parsley Salt and freshly ground pepper, to taste 3-4 tbsp walnuts, halved and toasted (instructions on toasting below) 1/4 cup chopped red onions Instructions Boil the potatoes till tender when pierced with a sharp knife; set aside to cool Preheat oven to 425 F. On a baking tray, line the walnuts and bake at 425F for 8-10 minutes. In a bowl, mix the hung yogurt, mayo, vinegar, mustard, garlic powder, parsley, salt and pepper. Once the potatoes have cooled, peel and chop them into quarters. Add to the yogurt-mayo mixture. Add in the chopped onions and walnuts. Mix well. Refrigerate for an hour to let all the flavors meld. 3.1.03 … Read More →

At the beginning of October, I started a fun journey with 11 other Australian demonstrators. We called it a "Chain Card Swap". It is a card version of what is called "Chinese Whispers" in Australia. Each of us designed a card (round 1) and sent it off to one of the other participants. That person CASE-d (Copy And Share Everything) the card and send their version on to the next person. The card made its way around until finally a version came home to the maker. We are going to have a blog hop for each of the card designs to share the fun and amazement at the evolution. This was my card I made for the swap This is the card I received back a bit different from my original Blog Hop Blog Hop Index
Part Two of our Stamping to Share Demo Meeting Swaps with a Christmas Theme. Many thanks to my AWESOME downline - Always Sharing. Always Caring. This beautiful easel card featuring Lovely as a Tree was created by Marlys Guertin. I think she made a great choice in background paper as it coordinates so well with the embossed image. That paper is from our Winter Frost Paper Stack. There is a glimmer brad to hold the easel in place and the sentiment on the inside of her card is from the stamp set called Wishing You. Cindy Standal created this lovely in

When we watch films, we know that we’re not seeing real life. We can suspend our disbelief to accept that bullet holes won't zoom through car doors and humans can simply brush off brutal injuries and continue along with their days. But just because movies aren’t real life doesn’t mean they should be riddled with problematic content…

If you’re a firm believer in karma, you probably don’t worry too much about getting revenge on the person who cut in line at the grocery store or who refused to make space for you to sit on the bus. They’ll get what’s coming to them! But unfortunately, life isn’t fair. And sometimes, even the most terrible people don’t get what they deserve while they’re still alive.

I've been dreaming of these little leaf spirits all week! I wanted to come up with a sweet little craft that was simple, enchanting and that evoked the magic of Autumn. Bring forth the leaf spirits. As I was making these, Ruby says to me, "I think I've seen these falling from the trees before." I just think they capture the magic of this season...I know I've always been captivated by this time of year and can't help but feel the "magic" in the air as the trees change colour and the leaves shower down from the canopy overhead! To make some leaf spirits of your own you will need: wool felt in Autumn colours (red, orange, yellow, brown) wool roving (in matching colours) pipe cleaners small wooden beads, (mine are 3/4 inch) glue gun acorn cap, (optional) thread for hanging To start...trace a leaf shape onto your felt, cut 2 of these shapes. I cut off the stem bit and shaped it like a "u" to make a neckline. Take your pipecleaner...about 5 inches or so long, and fold it in half. Using hot glue, glue it down to the backside of one of your leaves. Using more hot glue, glue your bead onto the top of the pipecleaner and then glue the leaves together...sandwiching the pipecleaner in between. Glue on some roving for hair and top with an acorn cap! I tied my string to the top of the acorn cap so I could hang these lovely leaf spirits up to be enjoyed! And there you have it...some lovely little leaf spirits. I'm sure if you let your imagination lead you, you could come up with some delightful stories about these "spirits" and the adventures they have. Here's a little story to get you started called The Anxious Leaf. It's one story that captures how a leaf may "feel" when it's time to fall from the tree. And here's another little gem of a story from Reg Down called The Life of a Leaf which follows a leaf on its journey. I hope these offer some inspiration! In the "spirit" of Autumn! xo maureen

October is a very exciting month around here, quilting-wise. Not only is it my turn to be Queen Bee in the NQB Bee I'm in, it's also the final month of The Supernova Swap. Because we're so close to the end, I got a bit excited and made my final block over the weekend. I'll have 10 total, but it's nice to have most of them done so I can play with different layouts. Once I get my final block in the mail, I'll decide on my final layout. I'm also trying to decide what to do with the extra block....mini quilt? pillow? I don't know, but it's nice to see everything coming together! Happy Wednesday! Linking with WIP Wednesday at Freshly Pieced and NTT Thursday at My Quilt Infatuation
