"If we ain't got it, you don't need it!" General stores were once the hub of rural towns, where people came not just for provisions but for gossip and treats. We found a bunch that are still thriving, selling penny candy, groceries, housewares, sandwiches and more.
Homeowners Lauren and Ken Parlin worked with architect Sandra Vitzthum to revitalize an 1880s storefront in the Adirondacks.

If you grew up in one of Virginia’s small towns, you may remember the days of walking to the local general store. Whether you were picking up household supplies for Mom or just a few pieces of candy or an ice cream cone for yourself, these stores served as a hub of community activity. Looking back
At Landline, Caroline Morrison stocks plastic-free household essentials, from brooms to cookware to work clothes, made by Europe's best workshops.
This building is modeled after the General Store from the HBO series "Deadwood". The building is made from various hard woods. The front door does not open. The interior has a back drop of an old general store. The verbiage on the signs is burnt into the wood and permanent. The exterior comes with a variety of general store type items that are permanently affixed (decor may vary). This building measures approximately 5.5"H x 4.25"D x 5.25"W and the scale is approx. 1:43. There is a hole in the bottom to accommodate lighting. The building has one coat of outdoor polyurethane. Not recommended to get wet. Note: This is not a toy, it is for decoration only. Not suitable for children, may pose choking hazard. Building only, props and figurines not listed above, not included. Other western buildings in scenes sold separately. If you like the western theme, check out all the other western buildings I have. You can build an entire western town. Thank you for stopping by OldWestMiniatures.

this was the coolest museum...they had products from another time and i'm just old enough that i remembered a lot of the packaging for these products. when i was a child in the early sixties in omaha, nebraska we still had stores with wooden floors and barrels filled with various items...the smell of this museum brought back so many memories! elena being from another country was completely fascinated by this fantastic space...if you find yourself in palm springs please check this place out it! you can't get real close...i just wanted to touch so many of these things, but alas...

General Store in Peckham, South London, ticks all those boxes and some. The delightful owners, Merlin and Genevieve, seemed to have fallen into the role of ‘shopkeepers’ without it being part of their initial grand plan. “We were looking to move into this area and wanted a business we could create together. The cluster of independent cafés, restaurants and shops in the street, many opened by first-time business owners, has a lovely ‘villagey’ feel to it, which is always a bonus for urban, city dwellers who are looking for a strong sense of community where they live. The store stocks a comprehensive range of daily staples, along with artisanal cheeses, locally brewed ales, fresh coffee, wine, and seasonal fresh […]
