taken with a zuiko macro 135mm canon 30D View On Black Grows in a wide range of habitat on chalk, clay and calcareous sand, in grassland, scrub, sand dunes, limestone pavement, roadside verges, abandoned quarries and industrial waste ground where weathering has produced a base-rich substrate. Although most sites are well-drained, it can also flourish in damp areas. It is an active coloniser, sometimes appearing in large numbers on newly graded and sown road margins.
Marford Quarry, Denbighshire 1st June 2016 Even before I start I’m sure this will be my largest album. The Bee Orchid is the one everybody wants to see and fortunately it is sufficiently widespread, in England at least, for us all to have the opportunity of finding it without a special trip to some far-flung part of the country. Once found, it invites photography, being colourful and exotic, with the column housing the pollinia shaped like a duck’s head. Furthermore there are several named variants, the three we’ve seen all demanding space here.
