The Sailing Club on Lake Merritt c1880-90 _______________________________________________ The “Lake”, actually an estuary formed where several creeks empty into San Francisco Bay, was originally used as a sewer in the early years after Oakland’s incorporation in 1852. Dr. Samuel Merritt, a mayor of Oakland who owned property at the shore’s edge, was keen to clean the body of water by controlling its salinity and levels, and funded a dam between the estuary and the bay. He donated 155 acres of tidal land from the headwaters of Indian Slough in 1867, which became known as “Merritt’s Lake”. picture notes Sign on right says "Magic Bleaching Soap", Name on Boathouse obscured more on Lake Merritt: www.oaklandmofo.com/blog/lake-merritt-facts Archival Digital prints, framing, and canvas wraps are available through our partner ImageKind: worldwidearchive.imagekind.com/store/Images.aspx/ece50de5... from exhibits in jury rooms of US District Court-Oakland Restored by Bennett Hall / Business Image Group photo by Rodolph Source Oakland Public Library, History Room - please send them your donations or join

We hand craft this chandelier using a one of a kind vintage reclaimed wood beam from our 1880’s Homestead Log House (pictures in photos) located on our NW Montana Ranch. Many many years ago this reclaimed beam was hand hewn when the homestead house was painstakingly built by hand in the late 1800’s. It is truly a unique and authentic treasure. Not one of our reclaimed items are made from pallet wood or other low quality wood. This is the real deal when it comes to reclaimed wood and is simply stunning. We stained this reclaimed wood with Minwax Special Walnut color which brings out the gorgeous natural wood grain and hand hewn features. Dimensions are 60” x 6”x5” with 5 Pendleton Bottles as pendants and are approximately 4”x8”ea. 2ea 3’ black chains and our unique and super cool solid cast aluminum Engine #5 ceiling canopy mount. See photos for a close up. Light bulbs are not included. Hanging weight is 46-56lbs including the chains. LED dimmer switch compatible and is designed to be hard wired. HIGHLY recommend the dimmer switch! We recommend the Edison bulbs for a nostalgic look and feel, however our lights are always compatible for any style bulb up to 75 watts. All electrical components are UL Certified. Each of our wood products are unique and no two are identical. Every light will have its own grain, knot variances and personality. Customize it and make it yours! We can create your masterpiece in any color, size or shape you’d like. If you have any special requests please message me. PLEASE NOTE: Shipping to Alaska or Hawaii will require additional shipping fees based on zip code. Please reach out to me prior to ordering if you will be having this shipped to Alaska or Hawaii.
