I can just imagine lying on a psychologist's sofa and having him or her ask ~ So tell me Susan, when exactly did this obsession with little yellow cottages begin? My answer would have to be, a few weeks ago. Suddenly I was gravitating to the color yellow. It started out innocuously enough. You know, I would see a yellow fabric I liked such as this one …. I was attracted to the charm of it. I thought it was going to end there, but little by little, I started noticing a change. Don't get me wrong, red is still my favorite color, but then red looks so good next to yellow. Once I started going down that path, there was no stopping me! Do you see what I mean? Look at how warm and cozy this room looks with all the yellow touches added to the red. I am completely in love with that wing chair! Then I started seeking out pictures of little yellow cottages. The cuteness factor was so great that I could hardly keep myself from collecting more and more pictures of them. Do you see what I mean? Not much I can do but surrender to the little yellow cottage obsession ;-) You can see more yellow and more cottages on my Pinterest boards. Enjoy the rest of your weekend! Big Texas Hugs, Susan and Bentley

Hello everyone, Since Easter is this weekend I dug out these whimsical Easter dishes that I bought a few years ago at the Cracker Barrel in Florida. I wanted some bright cheerful colors in our little sun room today . I don't normally have much yellow but I am trying to forget we still have a lot of snow and this sunshine yellow is so cheerful. A little rabbit carrying his Easter egg. Yellow tulips ready to open. It is hard to believe it is already April.....hoping for some spring to arrive here soon but in the mean time I can enjoy some spring touches in the sun room. We are off to church shortly for our Maundy Thursday Candlelight service.but I hope to be back with another post before Easter. I am joining BNOTP for Tablescape Thursday today. Thank you for visiting, Carolyn

Hello everyone, I hope you all had a great weekend. We had a busy one as we finished up our tours for the season and had our family up for our Thanksgiving turkey dinner- a bit late here in Canada but some of us could not make it last weekend. I have a few more photos of our little trip to Nova Scotia to share with you. We stopped in for lunch and a walk around this beautiful seaside town. I love this porch as it has an amazing view of the water Then we moved on to Mahone Bay another charming seaside town that had a scarecrow festival the week before but still had lots of scarecrows up. Well dressed ladies watching the people go by.I love the house in the background. A pretty autumn scene. A welcoming autumn porch. The famous three churches of Mahone Bay Sunset We stayed in the beautiful Mahone Bay Bed and Breakfast. It was beautiful inside and out. The hosts were very friendly also and I hope to get back someday. Mahone Bay has a Father Christmas celebration coming up in late November that should be fun too,if you would like to check it out. Isn't this the prettiest porch? This was our charming room ~ I do so love red and white toile. T the hallway The living room They have a beautiful porch to sit on overlooking the water. After enjoying Mahone Bay we went up to Wolfville and went here to the Blomidon Inn where we had a delicious lunch and a tour around their lovely gardens. Thank you for coming along! Carolyn

Home is where the heart is, and area homes have been at the heart of Evansville Living since the magazine’s beginning. For 10 years, we’ve featured cozy cottages, ultra-modern lofts, historic mansions — all kinds of abodes — giving readers an intimate look into these places and the lives of the people who call them home. We’ve been inspired to create our own masterpieces: the four completed Evansville Living Idea Homes and one currently underway.

Once the main rooms of the house were completed (you can see all of them here) we began work on our bright Orangery. We knew we wanted a light, bright room but I did some research into the differences between an orangery and a conservatory. It turns out that an Orangery is built into the foundations of the house and seeing as I didn't want this room to feel like an add-on, we went for that over the conservatory style.
Hello everyone, We are having record breaking temperatures here on Prince Edward Island. Yesterday it was 30 degrees Celsius and 38 with the humidity factored in. A little too hot for me but in another day or two and it will be cooler so I will be lazy and sip lemonade and read in a shady spot today. Last night was pretty warm as well so we decided to sleep out in our little garden cottage(above). It has lots of windows and doors so there was a lovely breeze coming in all night. I love waking up to the sun shining in-I do miss all the bird sounds of early spring and summer but I did hear the odd crow! The cottage has electricity so I listened to quiet background music. It is very peaceful . Delicate lace nightgown and bed jacket A good place to read(opposite side) I was treated to breakfast in bed this morning- a lovely way to start the day! I think we should just move out here in the summertime! A lovely rose to adorn my breakfast tray. I made some biscuits yesterday and peach preserves a few weeks ago. Homemade peach preserves are my favorite. The bed reflected in the vanity mirror(yard sale find). Angels to guard you as you sleep. I love to see the lace curtains moving in the breeze. I think this angel fell asleep on the job! Well, I hope you enjoyed the sleepover in" the gardener's cottage" and it looks so romantic by candlelight I think I will have to share that with you soon too! Today is Tablescape Thursday at Susan's Between Naps on the Porch so I am joining in. Thank you for visiting me and hope you enjoy the other lovely tablescapes at Susan's. Carolyn

Warming buttercup, zingy lemon and elegant mustards - yellow is the colour of the moment and the one that is guaranteed to spark at least a little joy. We've found our favourite uses of the ‘world’s happiest colour' in the House & Garden archive to inspire your next paint project
The pigment Montpellier yellow was also known as Patent yellow in the late 18th century and was one of a small number of fashionable bright yellows that only a few could afford to use as a wall paint. This did not deter John Soane who famously used it to decorate his Drawing Room with it (the scheme was recreated in 1987). My take on the colour is softened and greyed just a little to make it a frankly, more useable colour. You can be reassured, when using Patent Yellow as all our colours, there are no nasty chemicals and no odour in our natural paints.
