Confused about what phonics, phonemic awareness, and phonological awareness are? I break down each of these in this ultimate guide.

I read SO many books about developmentally appropriate phonics and how to go through the proper foundational steps in order for students to master phonics and […]
When students are learning to read, it is critical that they be able to identify and recognize the 37 most common rimes within words. This colorful set of 37 rimes (combining many of phonemes and graphemes as listed in Appendix A of the Common Core) created using a simple double bubble design that is pleasing to eye, works well to accomplish this teaching and learning task for both teachers and students. When using these rime bubble posters in your phonics and spelling instruction from week to week, students' awareness of rimes will increase and giving them a 'shout-out' when they see them will be very gratifying to them (and you...because you know it's working, and they're getting it!) These wall posters are attractive and provide an anchor for word learning in your classroom. This set include one set of large rime posters (one poster per page) AND one set of small rime posters (four posters per page-see preview file) for those of you short on wall space or who want to put the small rime posters on a ring for your students or posted at the writing center. The use of these rimes in your phonics and spelling instruction (regardless of the phonics or spelling program you are currently using) correlates with the teaching and learning of Common Core Standards for K, 1 and 2 for Reading: Foundational Skills - Standard 3 "Know and apply grade-level phonics and word analysis skills in decoding words." This set includes the 37 most common rimes in the English language: ack, aw, ink, ain, ay, ip, ake, eat, it, ale, ell, est, ock, all, oke, ame, ice, old, an, ick, op, ank, ide, ore, ap, ight, ot, ash, ill, uck, ate, in, ug, at, ing, amp, unk Use this rime words cheat sheet with this poster set. (If you have purchased any of my other bubble poster sets for spelling and phonics instruction, this set contains ay and ing from set 1 and aw from set 2...the rest are new). Download the preview to see the actual size of the rime posters (several shown) and see how this product may be used with whichever spelling or word study program you are already using in your classroom. This file is an easy download that is a one 52-page pdf file document. Thank you! Jen Jones www.helloliteracy.blogspot.com

My Kindergarten class (in our co-op) has been working hard on learning the letter sounds and now we have moved on to learning some digraphs. I found a cute idea on Pinterest about the H Brothers, so I ran with it, modified it, and created my own materials. I had a lot of fun putting [Read On]
