Immerse yourself in the vibrant hues and emotive strokes of this captivating piece, part of our 'Scottish Beaches' collection. Inspired by the serene splendour of Balmedie Beach in Aberdeenshire, this expressionist interpretation captures the raw beauty of one of Scotland's most cherished vistas. One's gaze is immediately drawn to the dramatic skyline, where bold strokes of orange, pink, and gold clash and dance around each other, highlighting the setting sun that is delicately veiled by wisps of cloud. This striking celestial display casts a radiant array of colours upon the waters below, reflecting and amplifying the beach's natural magnificence. The beach itself is rendered in expressive sweeps of lavender and amber, interspersed with cool shadows that trace the undulating dunes. The touch of expressionistic flair brings forth the texture of the sandy terrain and the tumultuous joy of ocean waves lapping at the shore. In the distance, silhouettes of land and hills rise under the dynamic sky, adding depth and context to this coastal scene. These muted backdrops provide a sense of tranquillity and contrast against the foreground's liveliness. Every print in our collection offers a window into the essence of the Scottish shores. This piece, with its exuberant colour palette and impassioned execution, invites art lovers and dreamers alike to lose themselves in a moment captured on the cusp between day and night, where the untamed spirit of Balmedie Beach is forever preserved.
My paintings at the Stroke Art Fair in Munich last week.
Los Angeles-based artist and actor Joseph Lee paints thickly layered portraits that mask the details and expressions of his subjects’ faces. His abstracted profiles sometimes reveal a subtle hint of an eye, nose, or ear between multi-colored brushstrokes, and are set against matte backgrounds to make each painting pop. Although the facial expressions are often hidden, the self-taught artist intends to bring emotions to each face through the turn of the head or the line of a jaw. More

Impasto strokes in deep shades of blue and gray form the volatile environments that backdrop Artem Chebokha’s surreal works. The Saint Petersburg-based artist, who uses the moniker RHADS, mimics the texture of oil paint in his digital pieces. Situated within heavy clouds and pockets of lightning, elements of unusual scale, like minuscule airplanes or an oversized octopus, create otherworldly atmospheres filled with unpredictable weather and open expanses. Prints of Chebokha’s dreamy paintings are available on Society6. More
Captured in the evocative style of Expressionism, this stirring print brings to life the untamed essence of Ardalanish Bay amidst a gathering storm. The dynamic composition is charged with the tumultuous energy of the skies, where swaths of deep blues and greys intermingle, punctuated by fleeting strokes of white that seem to illuminate the firmament. This tempestuous canopy looms over the tranquil azure hues of the bay, creating a striking contrast that echoes the wild spirit of Scottish coves. In the foreground, the rugged charm of the coastline is rendered through a rich palette of greens, yellows, and earthy tones, artistically layered and interspersed with vibrant splashes of orange and red, symbolizing the raw vitality of the land. These bold, impasto-like brushstrokes carve out the undulating contours of the landscape, imbuing the scene with a palpable sense of movement as if the winds themselves are coursing through the grasses and over the rocky outcrops. The overall effect is one of dynamic harmony, a testament to the natural beauty and power inherent in Scotland's coastal landscapes. Captured within the frame of this expressive print is the evocative beauty of Isleornsay Harbour at the day's end. The painting's bold, impasto strokes convey an almost tactile texture, creating a dynamic surface that vibrates with life and energy. Warm hues of vermilion, amber, and gold contrast strikingly with cool tones of cerulean and cobalt, suggestive of the interplay between the fiery sky and the tranquil water. As the sun dips towards the horizon, its resplendent glow is masterfully reflected in the mirror-like harbour, creating a path of shimmering light that leads the eye through the composition. The undulating silhouettes of the surrounding rugged landscape frame the scene, their outlines softened by the atmospheric conditions of the waning light. Contrasts are at play not only in colour but also in form, with the fluidity of water juxtaposed against the solidity of the land and the ethereal quality of the sky. Small flecks of pure white and lighter tones speckle the water's surface, capturing the sparkling effect of the sun's final rays dancing upon the gentle ripples. As the sun dips below the horizon, a harmonious symphony of colour bathes Plockton Harbour in a warm, ethereal glow, marking the serene close of another day in Scotland's picturesque west coast. This exquisite print captures the heart of the scene with its rich, vibrant hues and softly blended brushstrokes that hallmark the Impressionist style, inviting viewers to lose themselves in the tranquillity of the moment. The captivating sky, painted with broad strokes of coral, peach, and lavender, offers a striking contrast to the placid, reflective waters where splashes of gold and azure mirror the sky's dying light. The majestic Scottish hills, veiled in hues of purple and blue, rise in the background, their rounded silhouettes cradling the harbour and adding a sense of enduring grandeur to the composition. At the water's edge, a small boat gently bobs, its sails down, at rest after a day's voyage.
