"Particle Accelerator" - Art Print by Tyler Tea in beautiful frame options and a variety of sizes.
What’s the difference between a synchrotron and a cyclotron, anyway?
All evidence suggests that neutrinos have mass, but of such a small amount that it is assumed to be negligible. As they travel so fast, their mass must necessarily be tiny - this leads on to the physics controversy of 2011: the saga of the faster-than-light neutrinos.
In physics research, keeping atoms at a standstill is a very difficult proposition, but it produces a state which is extremely handy for research into atomic physics. If an atom is moving when particles are shot at it, it becomes difficult to get insight into the collision as the movement leads to Doppler effects that

Particle accelerators are some of the most complicated machines in science. Scientists are working on ways to run them with a diminishing amount of direction from humans.
Computer illustration of subatomic particle tracks, in the style of a bubble chamber photograph showing tracks left by subatomic particles from a particle accelerator. A bubble chamber is a container filled with liquid hydrogen which is superheated. Any charged particle passing through the liquid in this state leaves behind a trail of tiny bubbles as the liquid boils in its wake. The bubbles are seen as fine tracks, which show the characteristic paths of different types of particle and which are curved due to an intense applied magnetic field. Scientists use data from these types of energetic subatomic collisions and the subsequent particle decay to investigate the structure of matter. -- Prints available: www.scienceart.co.uk

A study of some old data from a 1990s-era particle-accelerator experiment could be a hint at new physics. Or it could be a fluke.
It's almost impossible to tell the swirling images in Supranav Dash’s Pixel Studies used to be portraits. That's because they've been processed through layer upon layer of glitch and filter apps that make them look like they just got fired through a particle accelerator.
