This year Monkey really wanted a Skylander Giants birthday party. I don't know much about this. All I do know is that it is a video. I did some research and found out that these "creatures" live on islands in the sky and battle it out. For the invitation I kept it simple but special for him. Next thing I worked on was his banner. I tried to mimic the elements that I had made. The decorations were what I was most excited about. I made a bunch of elements put up on the cuboards. These were out of my famous felt, hot glue and paper plates idea. I hung them up all around the kitchen as well has vines to give it an "island" feel. I took the lanterns that I had from other parties and spray painted them. Then I tried my best to make them look like Skylander Characters. The skylander gang I ended up hanging them in the kitchen. I kept the present area pretty simple I made Bouncer out of felt and posterboard I wish I would have gotten a better picture of the table scape. But here is what I did get. I decorated it was some fake rocks made out of paper bags and spray paint. Monkey said he wanted a portal as a cake. For the actives we did a Skylander's Trivia. The kids really enjoyed this. After trivia we did the funnest game ever! I had made a bunch of these pretend rocks out of paper bags, newspaper and spray paint. We were just going to use them as decorations but then my love thought of a great game the morning of the party. Since they throw rocks in Skylander video game, the idea of the game was to lay all the rocks in a line in the middle. We divided the kids into 2 groups and then had them take 15 steps back. When my love said "GO" they had to try and throw as many rocks as possible on the other teams side of the court until the time was up. Then the team with the least amount of rocks on their side won the game. Let me just say this was a SERIOUS hit! For the favors I decided to just keep it simple easy. I gave a personalized candy bar away at the end. It turned out to be a great party!
I wanted to have some fun with my class because I feel so darn lucky to be their teacher! So a St. Patrick’s Day minute to win it challenge seemed like the perfect activity. It’s fun and encourages teamwork. Mostly, I just like to hear them laugh. Warms my teacher heart! I started by splitting

After much searching for possible places to hold a birthday party for a large group of people (so much harder with Winter birthdays and owning a small house) we decided to hold Mason's Birthday Party at our house and keep the invite list small! I am so glad we did as it was perfect. Mason had a blast and everyone got to actually see him and play with him... unlike last year when his party was so big I dont think I even said Hello to everyone who made it to the party! This year we were able to just hang out and enjoy snacks while talking and relaxing... perfect birthday party to me! The theme for this years party was Thomas the Train... really was the only option, the kid LOVES trains! I found a great Birthday Cake at Cub - perfect for his theme. And then searched Pinterest for some other Thomas the Train birthday party ideas and found a couple cute things that didn't cost me any money being as we have all the train props we could ever need in our house!! It was a great birthday party and Mason was more than thrilled with all his presents. He received a train puzzle, some train books, some water painting books, Thomas the Train Jammies, Thomas the Train swim trucks and swim shirt, a Magna Doodle (perfect size for our upcoming road trip) and a Mickey Mouse blanket made by his Auntie Marissa! He is such a lucky boy. Thanks to everyone who came and made his 2nd Birthday a special one, we have the best family and friends, love you guys! Happy 2nd Birthday Little Man.... looking forward to entering the awesome terrible two's with you!

My son just turned 7 years old and he really wanted to have an Angry Birds Star Wars birthday party. So it was up to me to figure out how to make that happen! The first thing I worked on the invitations. I found a nice large Angry Birds Star Wars Logo graphic online and used that as a base for my invitations. I found a font that looked like the Angry Birds Font as well as a Star Wars font and used them to add text to the image. It turned out pretty awesome, don't you think? Next I worked on the party favors/goody bags to send home with his friends. Naturally with any party theme that includes Star wars, we had to make pool noodle light sabers for all his friends. I LOVE how they turned out, and they were really easy. We just cut the pool noodles in half, and taped the bottoms with chrome duct tape. Then I used black electrical tape to make all the pool noodles look like light saber handles. Each one was different, and the boys LOVED them. We also sent home a little goody bag. Luckily Angry Birds Star Wars is very popular and I found an abundance of Angry Bird Star Wars goodies at Walmart in their dollar bins. They had pens, pencils, activity packs, notebooks, you name it! We decided to send home a fun activity pack, some coloring pages, a pencil, and Angry Birds Star Wars Bag. I put the logos on the little black bags myself. I used my craft cutter to make a stencil of the logo and then painted it on with fabric paint. They turned out great! As you can see, I just used black vinyl tablecloths and paper products. The boys didn't care about that stuff anyway. I did find a really cool double-sided Angry Birds Star Wars banner to print and hang up, which all the boys thought was pretty cool. Before long we had everything ready for the party. When the day arrived, Jonah was SO excited for the party to start. He couldn't wait for his guests to arrive. As soon as the boys arrived, they each got to pick a pool noodle. As you can guess, Jedi battles immediately ensued! The good thing is that with the pool noodle light sabers, no one really gets hurt. Especially when you lay the ground rule of "No hitting above the shoulders". Games As soon as all the boys arrived, we started the games. The first game was called Jedi Lightsaber Battle. We gave each of the boys a cracker tied on a string to put around their necks. The cracker represented their life force. They had to protect their life using their lightsaber (not by covering it with their hand!) If their cracker got broken, then they "died". The last Jedi standing was declared the winner. Needless to say, the boys loved this game! It is perfect for boys this age group or older. We even ended up playing it more than once, so it was a good thing I made plenty of "cracker necklaces". After all that lightsaber dueling, the boys were a little out of breath. So we decided to play a round of Angry Bird Star Wars Bingo. This was a great game to get the boys to sit still for a minute, and they loved it! They got to look for their favorite characters on their game boards, and eat their candy markers when someone got bingo! I actually made the bingo boards myself in Photoshop. They were based on inspiration I found at an Etsy shop and it was not too hard to create them using images I found online. We played one other quick game that the boys thought was a lot of fun: Pop the Piggies. I made lots of balloons that looked like stormtrooper pigs. I drew the faces on the with marker and then added the ears. Pretty cool, huh? We divided up into two teams and each team had to run across the lawn, grab a pig, and take it back to his team and pop it. Then the next person in line got to go get a pig to pop. The first team done with their balloons won. It was really fun! After our short games, we started the main game: life-sized Angry Bird Star Wars. A friend of ours recently did an Angry Birds party and built a real sling shot. They were kind enough to let us borrow it. How cool is that? We used lots of cardboard boxes to create the sets for the boys to shoot down. They had a great time setting up the cardboard boxes. I thought about getting plush Angry Bird Star Wars characters for them to knock down, but decided they were a bit too expensive. So I just printed out images of imperial pigs online and glued them onto boxes. Honestly I don't think the boys cared that the pictures were just glued on boxes. They just LOVED putting the balls in the slingshot and letting them fly! We had so much fun stacking the boxes up and then letting the birds go! The balls had bird faces painted on them and everything. They didn't look exactly like the characters in Angry Birds Star Wars, but nobody seemed to mind at all! We had so much fun! Before long it was time for the cupcakes. I looked everywhere for cake ideas, but did not want to dish out a ton of money for fondant figures. Nor did I especially feel like making an elaborate cake myself. So here is what we ended up with. Pretty cool, huh? I found these edible cupcake toppers at a shop called Caketattoos. They are printed with edible ink on edible paper and were so easy to put on the cupcakes. I think they looked great! The boys loved them. The shop even sells images that are large enough to put on a cake. We almost went that route, but cupcakes are always good at a party! Jonah and his friends absolutely LOVED his party. It was SO much fun that the boys didn't want to leave when their parents came to get them! Now that's what I call a party! Linked up to Wordful Wednesday, Wordish Wednesday, and Wordless Wednesdays all over.

Making "rainbow food" seems to be quite popular lately...cakes, cupcakes, candies, and jello are just to name a few. I love the idea of the rainbow jello so I made a Rainbow Trifle for our St. Patrick's Day dessert. I admit there's a mistake here because I didn't follow the directions closely on the white layers. You will notice mine are a bit 'lumpy', the white layers should be smooth. (It still tastes the same, but next time I'll give myself more time and be more precise). So read ALL the directions before making :) ... You will need: 6 - 6oz boxes of Jell-O Cherry Orange Lemon Lime Blue Raspberry Grape (Use any flavors you like as long as the colors are Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, Blue, and Violet) 2 boxes of Unflavored Gelatin (such as Knox) 1 can Sweetened Condensed Milk (I used 2 cans) 1 large Trifle Bowl or dessert bowl Step 1: Mix 3 envelopes (there's 4 envelopes in each box) of unflavored Knox Gelatin with 1 1/2 cups of boiling water Mix until gelatin dissolves Add 1 can Sweetened Condensed Milk Mix until combined well Set Aside Step 2: Make your Grape Jell-O Using the quick method on the back of the Jell-O box (You can use which ever flavor you want. I wanted Violet to be my first layer.) Pour the Grape Jell-O into your Trifle bowl Place in the refrigerator and let set for 20-25 minutes If you do not use the quick method, you will need more time to let the Jell-O layers set Step 3: Pour 1/3 cup of the Sweetened Condensed Milk mixture on top of the set Jell-O (you may want to use more depending on how thick you want the layer) Place in the refrigerator and let set for 10-15 minutes NOTE: The condensed milk mixture that you have made and set aside will most likely solidify while sitting out. So place the mixture in the microwave for 20-30 seconds to liquefy again (this is where I made my mistake in the first few layers..it was all clumpy - still tastes good..but would look much nicer if I did it correctly) Repeat Steps 2 and 3 alternating Jell-0 and Sweetened Condensed Milk mixture. If you run out of the sweetened condensed milk mixture (like I did), just make a second batch using Step 1. Once you've finished all layers, top the Trifle with dollops of Whipped Topping and Garnish with Chocolate Candy Coins (If you want). Happy St. Patrick's Day !!
