I’ve been waiting for Traditional Home Magazine to officially release on shelves to share our family room images with you ladies! We shot these photos back in May so it’s been hard to sit on them. However, it was so surreal and such an honor to see our home in print, and in one of my favorite magazines! As you know, we worked with Alice Lane Interiors to furnish our home. They completely took my vision and ran with it. Cozy and inviting with a little Nancy Meyer flare! I wanted this space to feel collected and for me, Alice Lane achieved all of those things through their design. Together Drew and I did the floor plan, some of the electrical plan and a whole lot of analyzing. The sconce and the window seat were a last minute add in that I absolutely love! When we were in the framing stages while building, our kitchen was the same ceiling height as our family room. When we walked through it for the first time during framing, we knew we made a mistake. Our designer and our architect had both advised us to keep our family room ceiling height at 10 feet, consistent with the kitchen. When we actually walked in the space being all one height, it just didn’t feel right. We needed a division of the two rooms...We were worried the white oak beams would feel too low on a 10 foot ceiling. We also noticed the ceiling was cutting off the tips of the beautiful mountains. We delayed construction by about two-three weeks and completely took off the ceiling (that was now the floor to our second story) so we could raise the ceiling to 12 feet, separating the space from the kitchen and capturing our entire mountain view. Even though it was a pain, I’m SO happy Drew and I trusted our gut and made the change. The view is what completely makes this room! These images don’t even do it justice! So many situations like that happened while we were building. Since Drew was the general contractor, he could look at it from a analytical angle and I could look at it from a design/emotional angle since I had the vision in my head. Drew and I spent hours analyzing and going through every detail. I wasn’t prepared for how much we would need to pay attention to every single detail, but it made for such a fun and rewarding project, especially since Drew and I got to work closely together during the process. I know a lot of you ladies are building and write me a lot asking questions. My biggest advice is, if something is not feeling right trust your gut and don’t be afraid to change it!! Maximize your views and natural light as much as possible. Look at your plans and make sure your windows aren’t too small for the space. That’s something we looked at, every single window our architect drew out for us, we made larger to completely utilize the space the window was going. If you have any other building questions for me leave them below on this post! I miss so many DM’s so I’ll see your question here!! Again, we shot this in May so currently our family room is dressed a little more moody for fall through the accessories and I can’t wait to show you how we decorate this gathering space for Christmas!!! My new favorite area in my house during Christmas time is my front living room area! We just finished having it designed by Alice Lane and they did such an amazing job. The Christmas decorations just elevate the whole space even further! During the live the other day, I got so many questions about my tree, ornaments, decor and my new pieces from Alice Lane! I've added some photos of my living room and put together a board for you with links so you can get the look! You can shop even more of the pieces from my collection at Alice Lane here. I can't wait to see how your space is decorated! Every year I get so many questions about where I got my tree. This is the Frosted Yukon Spruce from Balsam Hill. I love the way it looks in this room! Almost all of the ornaments on my tree are Rachel Parcell ornaments. These ornaments are elevated and gorgeous! I use about 7 of each ornament for the tree. This year, I added Slate Blue Ribbon, Cream Ribbon, and Taupe Ribbon to complement the colors in my living room and I love the way it all came together. After I posted our Patio Reveal I had so many questions from all of you about our backyard. A lot of the questions were things that my husband Drew would have the answers to. I went through and gathered them up and asked Drew to help me answer them for you! Here is the Q&A below and I hope that it answers a lot of the questions you have! ... -Pool- Can you share source for your pool tiles? Yes! My hubby and pool contractor thought I was crazy for picking this tile but I love that it's different, unique and had never been done before!! You can find them here! What brand of pool cover do you have? Coverstar® and it opens with a keypad. Do the stones around the pool ever get hot or slippery? They can heat up with the summer sun but not crazy hot. We don’t think it’s very slippery because of its texture. Who was your pool contractor? Infinity Pools, LLC. We loved them so much and highly recommend! Is the pool cover automatic? Yes, for both pool and hot tub. Is the pool cover hard and can you walk on it? It's not hard, but you can walk on it. It feels like you're walking on a waterbed. It can hold the weight of a car and was worth every penny. Is your pool concrete and is it heated? It is made with gunite concrete and is also heated. How did you make your backyard baby-proof, is the pool safe for kids? There are some areas I worry about but we have put up fences and plant barriers to help. Overall we feel like it's a safe place but you never know with toddlers...Rachel is a helicopter mom and does not let the kids go outside without an adult to supervise. How long does it take to open and close the pool cover? 20 - 30 seconds. Any must do’s and or regrets with a pool and kids? We have our kids in private swimming lessons every week all summer, Aquatics Academy, and that has helped Rach and I feel more comfortable with the kids and pool. Jackson and Isla Rose are both very strong swimmers and know their way around our pool. It's more other children we worry about. Our #1 rule is if a child cannot swim, their floaties don’t come off until pool is closed. -Trampoline- Where did you buy your trampoline? It’s by Trampoline Down Under. Our trampoline is flat to the ground which makes it much safer for kids jumping! How to keep critters and bugs from living under trampoline? We have pest control and we don’t really go under the trampoline since it has gravel underneath. Utah doesn’t get too many bugs because of our winters. We've never noticed a bug issue under there. How does the trampoline do in the winter? No issues but we feel like it gets bouncier the next spring, lol. Who installed the trampoline into the ground? Our landscaper did but any landscaper could do it. There are also kits you can buy if you’re a DIY type of person if you like to dig big holes, lol. I recommend hiring a professional. -Plants- What type of ivy do you have? Boston Ivy. This type is not destructive! We love it. Who is your landscape contractor? LE Landscaping, Inc. What plants did you use in your backyard? Boxwoods, limelight hydrangeas, weeping white pine trees, topiaries, knock out roses. Our designer was Brenda Robertson from Posies & Co. and you can find her on Instagram. Brenda lives in Utah, she's so talented! She was the florist at my wedding too! What is the best online shop for planter boxes? Frontgate, Restoration Hardware. Utah locals: I recommend DownEast Home (that's where I found my blue ones) and Sun River Gardens. How do you choose where is best to put the lighting in your backyard? Spotlight your statement trees and plants! We had our landscape contractor help up with placements of these lights. We did corner trees and statement trees! How do you keep your backyard free of bugs? We have pest control but no backyard will ever be free of bugs. Utah winters do keep the bugs under control which is actually really nice!! Make me appreciate winters more! -Backyard- Where did you get your shutters? Architectural Depot What color is your brick painted? Both our shutters and our brick is painted Grey Mist by Benjamin Moore. Our shutters have more of a sheen to them and our brick is more of a flat sheen. Do you have outdoor speakers? We have TruAudio speakers and they are strategically placed with the landscape so you can’t see them but you can hear from it anywhere in the yard. I highly recommend them! They were so sweet to work with and they gave us a discount on all of our speakers. Do you have any open grass areas? Yes, over by the trampoline. It’s a great size for the kids to play soccer or run around. What is the blue stone name? Pennsylvania Bluestone. How do you keep your grout so clean and white? We use a power washer and Drew loves doing it, it's therapeutic. We power wash everything probably once a month in the summer. Where did you get your fire pit? Drew built it and it runs on gas. The inside is filled with reflective glass rocks from American Specialty Glass. If you'r interested in building a fire pit I would reach out to a landscape contractor as well and they can help! -Furniture- Where are your hanging lanterns from? Bevolo and they are the electric model. Our front patio has the gas model. How do you keep your furniture so clean, especially the white couches? They have Sunbrella® slipcovers that can be removed and washed. Do you remove the cushions ever? No, not until winter and we bring them out again late spring. Do you cover your furniture when it rains? Not during the summers. We will store it during the late fall through late spring. We don't get a ton of heavy rain in late spring and summer here! Where is your round table from? It’s from Horchow. Where is the rest of your furniture from? It was gifted to us by FrontGate. You can find all the furniture sources and links in this post! Where did you get your sandbox you've been posting about? I found it on Overstock. I love that it's a natural wood, it looks pretty and has the cutest little seat for them to sit on the corners while they play! ^^We love our @truaudiospeakers and it is so nice that the speakers aren't even noticeable at all! ...

I'm sure you have all seen the beautiful holiday event that Nordstrom and I just hosted in Chicago to celebrate the launch of our latest collection! Chicago is home to a lot of our amazing RP customers so instead of hosting in SLC like we typically do, we wanted to bring a piece of my home to our customers in Chicago. We found an event space who white brick and brought in the same Christmas trees I use in my home. The flocked trees were of course, decorated in our RP ornaments apart of our new Home Accents Collection. It was the most magical atmosphere and we had the help of the talented Steve of Sinclair and Moore. We were able to collaborate for this launch and turn my vision for this event into a reality and it turned out beautifully. I’ve linked the trees here and all of the ornaments on the tree are below... We went to Costco and loaded up on Diet Coke, water and fresh fruit!! ... ^^We ate our breakfast almost every morning on our balcony overlooking the ocean, it was heaven!! ... ^^The view from our balcony! I miss it so much! ... Happy Monday! Every year my family and I escape the freezing Utah weather to soak up some sunshine in Maui (our favorite place on earth)! I got a lot of questions about where we stayed and how we liked it. I've actually stayed at this resort every time I've gone to Maui (we've been coming since I was 8 years old)! This time we booked through HomeAway and stayed in this amazing rental! We had six adults and three babies so basically we were a circus everywhere we went. Car seats, strollers, cribs, blow up beach toys...and it fit us all perfectly! It has a full kitchen and a washer and dryer (that came in handy, Isla Rose loves to have blow outs). Before we checked in to our HomeAway, we stopped at Costco and stocked our fridge and pantry with snacks and lots of Diet Coke! With extra bedrooms, a full kitchen, a BBQ and a balcony overlooking the ocean we literally had everything we needed! I always get asked for my traveling tips with a baby and a family and I would say my #1 tip is to stay somewhere that is family and baby friendly. Somewhere where there's lots of space (for cribs and strollers and toys) and somewhere that has a kitchen! If you are traveling somewhere and are looking for a vacation home rental (which can sometimes be difficult to find) I would definitely browse HomeAway! We've used HomeAway a lot now that our family has out grown hotel rooms. They have properties just about anywhere in the world (remember when my entire family stayed in this cabin in Deer Valley over Thanksgiving?!). If you book through HomeAway for your next vacation, definitely let me know what you think! xo, Rach Thanks to HomeAway for partnering with us for this experience!
^^This sculpture is probably my favorite art piece in our entire home. When I first saw her, she spoke to me. The piece is called 'Butterflies for Brains'. I have always been a dreamer, when I was younger I would design dream homes, dresses, even my future kids and husband in my mind. I was such a visualizer. I always tried to visualize what my life would look like when I was older. When I saw this sculpture she reminded me of all the butterflies or day dreams dancing around my head from the time I was a little girl. ... Ok ladies, I have another room reveal for you this week! Today I'm excited to be sharing our entry way. As you know, we partnered with Alice Lane to design our new home that my husband Drew built for our family! I have been a client of Alice Lace for years and with this home they were so kind to offer us a 20% discount on furniture and design since they knew we would be sharing the process with all of you. This space especially was such a collaboration between Drew and Alice Lane. The design team had lofty ideas and it was Drew's job to figure out how to execute each element. He spent months working on the railing detail trying to figure out each piece and find a sub contractor who would be able to create it since it was a custom railing. I would see Drew late at night sketching details, drawing out information, he was incredible at decoding the puzzle pieces we would give him for this space. It's really easy to hand someone a sheet of paper and say do this, but to actually be able to execute it is another story. Drew and our subs did such a great job!! I wanted this space to feel airy, fashionable and inviting and Alice Lane completely captured that essence. I love the different lines, shapes and patterns that all play with each other. It's unexpected and bold but everything I wanted!! One of my favorite moments of my day is turning off all the lights when the house is quiet and my kids are in bed. On my way to my bedroom I always take a glimpse into the entry way and it never gets old. One of my favorite spaces in our home! •Entry Design and furniture by – Alice Lane (we received a 20% discount). •Wall and Trim Paint Color: Dove Wing, Door Color: Iced Marble (Both paints gifted by Benjamin Moore). ...

During the summer we always love to stay outside as late as possible. My kids love just playing as late as I will possibly let them and they are obsessed with any activities that we can do as a family. One thing we always love to do is sit around our fire pit outside and make s'mores. We love to make all flavors of and be creative with what we use. This last time we made 3 different kinds that I will list out below. You should try them and let me know your favorites and which one yours kids love the best! Working out is something that keeps my energy levels up and keeps me motivated throughout each week! Having to juggle kids while trying to fit in a workout is sometimes a little difficult, but I have found that working out at home makes it SO much easier. I made it a point to have a dedicated space in our new home so I can just run downstairs and get a quick work out in before my kids wake up each morning. Even if they wake up half way through my workout they know where I am and come and find me. They will just play next to me until I am done! Drew installed a TV in there for me too so I’ll turn on a show for them will I quickly get it done. For me, working out every morning is my therapy session and I honestly can say by making a habit of it, I look forward to my morning workouts!! Even if you don't have a dedicated spot in your house, it is super easy to convert a room or even your garage into a home gym space. I have rounded up all of my must have items for a home gym and I wanted to share them here with you! No matter if you can make it to the gym or not, you can still get those summer workouts in before work or your fun pool day! Making an entrance is a designer’s dream, especially when your client is taste maker and influencer, Rachel Parcell.
I am so sad that summer is coming to a close. We have absolutely loved spending time in our backyard and creating memories together as a family! Our goal was to make our backyard feel like an extension of our home and I feel we did just that - it’s one of my favorite spaces to gather, play and relax. When we moved in our home in October I started looking into different brands and what type of furniture I wanted in our outdoor spaces. There are SO many options out there that it started to become overwhelming so I decided to streamline it and stick to one brand that offered a wide variety of pieces. I ended up going with Frontgate because my mom purchased her backyard furniture from them last year and her space is beautiful and functional! The loungers by the pool are a mesh so they clean SO easily!! I knew my kids would be eating red popsicles outside and I didn’t want to get something that we would ruin the second it came out of the box. I love that we can spray our loungers off with a hose and clean any spills. I wanted our space to feel bright, playful and timeless. From the sky blue umbrellas, to the bright yellow beach towels, to timeless furniture pieces that have a modern flare I love how everything came together! ... ^^Grayson Ottoman ^^Grayson Sofa w/ Cushions in Sand/Natural | Grayson Lounge Chairs | Emerson Barrel Wood Coffee Table in Roman Stone | Grayson Ottoman ^^Emerson Sofas in Linen Natural | Outdoor Bolster Pillow w/Piping in Resort Stripe Dove ^^Tambora Dining Table in Natural | Myla Dining Side Chairs w/cushion in Umber Finish | Emerson Dining Side Chairs in Linen Natural ^^Newport Chaise Lounge Chairs | Milos Umbrellas w/Teak Frame in Air Blue | Balustrade Umbrella Table in Old Stone | Resort Cabana Stripe Beach Towel in Sunburst ... This post has been LONG awaited. We started working on the plans of building our home over three years ago and the thought of having a finished space to live in, let alone photographed to share with all of you seemed like a lifetime away- yet here we are!!! I'm so excited to kick off our new home tour with the library. The entryway is light and airy and as you peer into our home your eyes instantly catch and are drawn into this moody, cozy and inviting space. How it became a Library over a Home Office: We had a home office in our previous home with a formal desk that most times felt sterile and un-inspiring to sit at while working. When Drew and I were talking with our designers to kick off the 'the home office' space it was clear that this room was always meant to be a library. I love how the Alice Lane design team opted for a work table with three cozy leather chairs and one comfy and plush velvet sofa for gathering over one large desk meant for one. So far we have played many rounds of Mexican Train and Drew and I have both gotten loads of work done on our laptops while the kids stack up their blocks or color, all while being all while being side-by-side at the same table. It's one of my favorite moments of the room. I love how collaborative it feels. Why this space is so personal and meaningful: This room holds so much meaning. The shelves are filled with pottery and artifacts from Drew's time in Peru. He lived there for two years serving a mission for our church when he was 19. He learned the language and was fully immersed in the culture. In those two years he fell in love with the people, it was a momentous event in his life and time that will always be cherished. He brought back so many beautiful treasures from the people he served and before this space, those treasures had been sitting in a dusty box for over ten years! I'm so glad Alice Lane saw the beauty and meaning in each piece and found such beautiful places for them. If you look in the images you'll be able to spot the pottery and the hand woven baskets. The Art: Another piece that is so special in our library is the original artwork created by our dear friend, Rob France. I'm sad the photographer didn't get a closer shot- it's the artwork on the left side of the mantle. In these images 'BIRDY' (as Jackson calls him) is placed in a temporary frame but he's currently in the hands of an incredible framer who is doing a custom matte and frame. I'll share once I get him back!! You can shop our library collection here. A busy pediatric physician discovers a slower pace of life at this cliffhanger-of-a-vacation-home.
Sunday was such a special day for our family. Our sweet Stanford was blessed by Drew surrounded by our family. What a sweet spirit that was there.
