How to Calculate Retirement Savings Needs in Canada With or Without a Pension When is a good time to calculate retirement savings needs? When retirement may be decades away it's hard to think clearly about what you actually need in terms of retirement savings. But I would argue, the best time to think about it is when it is decades away, so you have more time to plan and prepare appropriately. If you have a workplace pension, you may need to save less than your peers without a pension. However, depending on how long you have been in the pension plan,

Although I'm a cautious spender (or at least I'd like to think that I am), I still had SO many times when I let money leak through the cracks. Tiffany bracelet for $360? Sure, why
Hello Everyone! I know! It has been a long time since my last post. I have had so much family stuff going on that I have been absolutely crazy tired by the end of the day. I think things are settling in now, so I finally had a second to sit down and present a quick post. Thanks for hanging in there with me. I am so excited about how our poetry unit is coming along. We have one more week and then I'll be ready to share some of my little poets' work! They have been loving it!! Until then, I wanted to share a new unit that we started incorporating into our math curriculum. Personal Finance. Yes! You read that correctly. I don't know if you have that in your objectives, but in Texas we try to cover saving, spending, and sharing. Our adopted curriculum (Pearson) does a good job of supporting the objectives with technology based lessons, but if you know me, you know I have to have some things to accompany the curriculum in my math tubs. I created a Personal Finance unit that I am sharing tonight. Here are a few pics from the 50 page unit. All vocabulary words are included in a set of mini posters to post in classroom The unit includes some whole group vocabulary activities and 6 math tub activities. I can't wait for my kids to learn through these hands on personal finance activities and I hope they will help you help your kids learn as well! If you are interested, you can get the unit for free----CLICK HERE!!! :) Let me know how it goes and if I need to add anything else. Well, that's all the time I have for now. I promise I'll be back very soon!! As always, thanks for visiting. You are the best!! Joyfully! Nancy

A friend recently published his first book. And I couldn’t be more pleased for him. He landed a three-book contract, which means his long years of typing away on evenings and weekends has finally borne fruit. But it was my friend's wife, not my friend, that reached out to me with questions about handling various aspects of the book launch. She was also the one who cleared the family schedule to give the aspiring author time to write. The one who set up a reading at our local library. She created a Facebook group for the book. And it was

Every time I share a photo of my favorite homeschool personal finance curriculum on Instagram I always get a ton of questions. There really are not that many options on the market other than Dave Ramsey so I understand why everyone is curious. I was the same way before I found this curriculum.
Napkin Finance is a quick and easy way to learn all about Should I Buy a House, Rent vs. Buy Real Estate, and Buying vs Renting without dying of boredom.
Welcome to another installment of the Secondary Smorgasbord linky party! This is my favorite theme thus far (and VERY appropriate for the February weather we are currently experiencing). It's -30°C, and with the windchill, it has gotten to -45°C (for my American friends, that's approximately -22°F). Yes, I had to Google the conversion! Now that you know that I am literally experiencing the DEEP FREEZE in my neck of the woods, let's get down to business. This month's collaborative theme is Out of the Deep Freeze and is about "a product that doesn't get the attention you'd like it to get and should get because, darn it, it's really good!" The project I chose to feature is something I worked REALLY hard on and update regularly! It's one of the best assignments I have created and not because I think so, but because my students tell me how much they learned! You read that right (they actually enjoy it). Hard to imagine high school students enjoying something that they have to put some effort into, right? DRUM ROLL PLEASE..... Would you believe it's a Monthly Budget Project?? Yep, they love it! Who would have guessed. This project reinforces practical money skills, and teaches the budgeting process in a fun and engaging way. Students will learn the differences between "need" and "want" items, and will experience what it's like to live on their own! Plus, they get to have a roommate, so the 'ol excitement of finding a partner in the class gets them extra excited. So, what's it all about? Students get to (a) Find a place to live (b) Learn just how much groceries really do cost - their initial guesses are quite humorous! (c) Pay bills - forget online banking, they learn to write out checks! (d) Learn the costs of buying, renting, or leasing a vehicle...just to name a few! If you want to give your students an opportunity to learn what it's like to live on their own, then give this a try! I am always open to suggestions and changes (as I am always updating this product, so feedback is welcomed!) Thanks again to ELA Buffet and Desktop Learning Adventures for the link up opportunity! Make sure to peruse the other products posted by the other secondary sellers - you don't want to miss out on an awesome resource that has not been given the praise that it deserves!! Stay warm, folks! An InLinkz Link-up

+JMJ So I've been working on Personal Financial Literacy for most of June, with a dash of robotics and a dash of novel studies. Since we will actually be working with a classroom economy and such, I wanted to make task cards for the students. I created simple task cards separately by TEK, (not done yet) since I am sure to integrate it all when the classroom economy is up and running. I just thought students should have practice for each TEK. Download a free poster by clicking here! For more on my personal financial literacy task cards for fifth grade and K-1, visit my store!
