About The Artwork 'Lace skirt' was inspired by the Queen Anne's Lace that I found growing in an abandoned lot in Silverdale, WA. My goal was to clothe my model in this natural material (which is generally considered to be a weed), to elevate both the model and the plant itself, and to root them both into the landscape. This piece was a celebration of the natural world, and the beauty of our place in that world, if we choose it. Silvio Zangarini was born in Turin in 1981. He is a traveler, photographer, philosopher, and lover of architecture, who has dedicated his life to research. His view of reality guides him in his research and inspires to capture these images in pictures: a reality that does not have any preconceived order and therefore is open to interpretation. Zangarini’s pictures express his point of view about the world, which, through his photographs, becomes more relevant than the subject itself. These images transcend his personal order, giving sense to chaos. For Zangarini, the primary subject of his pictures is everyday life, which at the beginning was a reality to discover and subsequently became a place where he discovered a deeper mystery that is always hidden behind what appears to be banal. By seeking a deeper mystery, one is led to ask questions about the meaning rather than be given answers. Art allows him to combine the appeal of the mystery to the will of action that has emerged from his philosophical contemplations; his life has evolved from asking how to asking why. He integrates the technical knowledge’s of analogical photography he learned from his father to the new technologies provided in the new digital era. He graduated in 2012 with a thesis that highlights the elements of anti-humanism and structuralism in the art of Franco Vaccari – from both an artistic and a critical point of view. His works evoke astonishment, surprise, and mystery to those who observe the world. His art has been displayed in several solo and collective exhibitions both in Italy (Venice Biennale, Turin), in Denmark and in The Netherlands. He collaborates with the Milan-based ‘Arte20 Group’ agency and the ‘Bottega Indaco’ group of artists in Turin. Currently, he lives and works between Turin (IT), Aarhus (DK), and Utrecht (NL).

About The Artwork The idea for the collection "Giardino del Duca" prints was born one day while listening to David Fray's beautiful performance of a Schubert lieder in Franz Liszt's fabulous piano transcription (Liszt. 12 Lieder von Schubert, S558 / R243: No . 3. "Du bist die Ruh". David Fray) In these moving chords, I could smell the scent of the ancient roses from my dear friend Michele's garden and I saw his magnificent borzoi called Duca moving among the flowering plants with the grace only a sighthound can have…. And here! Liszt gave his interpretation of him to Schubert's songs by creating masterpieces of classical music: he took away the singing, but added his unsurpassed pianism. Why can't I also interpret the beauty of Michele's Garden using what I know how to do: photograph dogs? Indeed, a dog, THE DOG: Duke. Just as Liszt during his life transcribed about 50 of Schubert's songs, so too Michele and I begin to interpret the beauty of Duke and his Garden. I don't know if we'll get to 50 photographic portraits too, but in the meantime, here are the first ones. Of course, the "soundtrack" cannot be missing, so this time I have associated with each photograph the lieder transcribed by Liszt in my favorite performances. You can find the Playlist in my Spotify account. It is called the "Garden of the Duke". Good vision and listening! The work of Brooklyn-based photographer Daniel Dorsa refuses definition, toying with light and color as it intimately portraits people, and the world around them.
The rise of photography in the mid-late 19th-century began the move away from an oral and literary tradition towards one based on image. A photograph can describe a moment in time more viscerally than the written word. Think of that picture of Jack Ruby shooting Lee Harvey Oswald. A million words have been written … Continue reading "The Astonishing Cinematic Autochrome Photography of Heinrich Kühn"

About The Artwork These thermale baths were created to recover the ancient baths in a city in Italy. The grand spa was one of the first in Italy and Europe, encompassing elegance, a plenitude of therapies, water mineralization and it was a beautiful place. The city began to empty with the first bombings of World War II. Miraculously the baths were saved. In the 1970’s, The imminent reopening of the dancehall was stopped by a fire of unknown origin. It broke out in the party room of the Baths. The fire was put out after about six hours. Since then a black veil of neglect and lack of interest covers all of the great palace. Such great ingenuity was used to create this jewel of architectural engineering and such great indifference is why it is in it’s poor state of neglect to this day. Photography is all about perspective - the person behind the camera can use their imagination to tell different stories about a subject from a variety of angles. Perspective gives depth to an image and can make a two-dimensional photograph feel like a three-dimensional scene.
