The practical madness of one of Italy's most profilic designers
The inspiration of this print is 'Sole di Capri' a design created by Piero Fornasetti in the 50s. Piero Fornasetti long had a passion for Capri and created this iconic design from his imagination, before ever having visited the legendary island. Piero eventually took the family there on holiday and, during the 1960s, also opened a temporary Fornasetti boutique on the island. The original print is a combination of personified suns and stylized architecture, both typical of Fornasetti. The idea of pairing personified suns and clouds appears for the first time in a sketch for a headscarf that Piero drew in 1950. It is now a whimsical all-over print, bringing a unique quirk to an interior. Width x Length: 52 cm x 10 m Pattern Repeat: 76 cm Match: Half Drop

Piero Fornasetti was a true original in the landscape of 20th-century design. His witty and surreal juxtapositions of hand-painted images cover the surfaces of furniture, tableware, and textiles—even entire rooms. Decorative in nature, and antithetical to the form-follows-function austerity of modernist design, the extraordinary range of items he produced through his atelier, numbering over 11,000, testifies to both his popularity and to his limitless imagination.

There are many reasons I love shopping at Ikea (cinnamon rolls, meatballs, soft serve)..... I also love the furniture because it's easy to embellish and alter! This week I'm taking a basic Ikea chair and giving it a Fornasetti inspired makeover with just a few images and some E-6000 Spray Adhesive. Since I discovered this non-toxic spray adhesive, I've been going a little nuts with it. It makes decoupage super easy. I was able to make this chair in just a couple of hours, spray paint and all. One of my lovely new Fornasetti inspired chairs You can use this technique on mismatched chairs for an amazing look Watch the video tutorial here! Ciao, queridos.
A classic of the Atelier's portfolio, the sun occupies a privileged position in the Fornasetti repertoire of natural forms and is one of the major motifs in the Atelier's visual universe. A predilection in part justified by the fact that for years in the early 1940s, at the request of Gio Ponti, Piero Fornasetti designed almanacs on a lunar theme to be given as Christmas gifts. There are several variations of this star within the Fornasetti universe, from fabrics to porcelain, accessories, and pieces of furniture.Presented as a striking repeat of shining faces, Soli's colour palettes range from a strikingly simple monochrome to a rich emerald green with radiant golden suns. It's no secret that The Mad House is a big fan of Fornasetti. Huge. So when I received an invitation to go to Paris for 24 hours to see the exhibition Piero Fornasetti: The Practical Madness at the Les Arts Decoratifs, in the Palais du Louvre, I had my bag…
