how to document a planner week It's the beginning of the month. It's the last 60 days of the year. 2020 is just around the corner. And maybe you find your self a little, shall we say, behind? in your planner. To which I reply...are we ever really behind? Well, let me ask you this: Are you a fill in every day as you go planner? Or are you a sit down once a week planner? If you are the latter, this post is for you. Because honestly, I do not think all of us are filling in our planners like we really want...and that's daily...for me, I tend very often to gather all the things and then have one planner sesh at the end of the week. And frankly, I really like this approach. Using the Heidi Swapp Color Fresh Classic Planner, which is what I have used all this year, let me show you some ideas and tips to for documenting a week at a time in your planner. This is a personal blog. All editorial content and projects are intellectual property of jamiepate.com I do receive financial compensation and material product and affiliate sales in the development and posting of my craft posts, but all ideas and opinions are my own. Of course I am starting off with a blank weekly spread like this one here. I started adding some notes, but that started to throw me off. So let me start with my process. I start with photos and printables first. I peruse my camera roll on my phone. I send to my computer the photo that best represents a day, if in fact I took a photo that day. And then I print at home. These photos shown here are 2-inches wide. Which makes them about 2 1/4-inches long since I tend to shoot in portrait ratio. Sometimes I print square 2x2-inch photos. Sometimes I print 1-inch strips of photos. But mostly this is my go-to photo printing format. Then, I also print screen shots I have captured during the week. These are usually Instagram quotes or other quotes I have come across in a day that spoke to me. I like to screen shoot the image. Print to 2x2. And add to that day I found it in my planner. I really like this addition to my planner week. The next thing I do in this planner sesh workflow is Monday. Now, granted, very often this day is actually filled in on the day of that week. Because Monday is about over view. I like to make a list of the things that will need to be accomplished or given attention in my week. The Memory Planner Clear Stamps come in handy here. I love to use that DETAILS stamp to bring attention to this part of the week and day. Daily details come next. Most often inspired by the photo I chose for that day, I write bullet point journaling or even regular journaling in response. Sometimes it's just word/phrase stickers that fill in a day. This is all very fluid for what one wants to record in their planner. But as you can see, the week is rounding out nicely. Something sort of new to my weekly process is to include a CURRENTLY list. Using Journal Studio Sticker Book letter stickers I give this space a title. Then I list what I am currently reading, watching, making, listening, feeling, planning, and enjoying. This is going to be a bonus of information to go back and read in future years. Finding a weekly planner work flow has been super helpful for me to stay caught up in my planner. It works every time. I know what to do from step to step. And it creates a wonderful full and meaningful planner week for me to refer to again and again. On my YouTube channel I have published a Planner Tips and Ideas video that goes into more detail for this page spread. Plus a bonus lesson on how to format the embellishments in a balanced way. When i first saw www.flickr.com/photos/moleskineart/sets/72157610458565391/ i was blown away. It is very sophisticated and looks so great! But i wanted to build something around my beloved Moleskine 18 months - Weekly Notebook. I started with some sketches and a paperboard mock-up. It worked fine and i decided to use it for a while. So i went through my old magazines in search for some nice pictures that would prettify it. Have a look!
Last week’s post, “Guide to Notebook Systems/System Techo, Part I”, offered a brief introduction to different types of notebook systems on the market. One of those categories was the “System Techo,” a Japanese term for a notebook system built around a ringed binder. “System Techo” is not as popular

The Passion Planner is great for work-life balance, and I like to use highlighters in the Passion Planner so I can visualize work-life balance in my day.
The sensible shopper, when faced with two equally attractive possibilities, weighs the pros and cons of each item, examines true need versus impulse, and eventually arrives at a sensible decision. But I wouldn't know because when have I ever been a sensible shopper? That's right--check it, bay-bee. I bought the A5 Chameleon in Spring Green AND the A5 Adelphi in Scarlet! OK, I did try to compare one to the other and had hoped, rather briefly and not all that sincerely, that one would come out on top. But in the end, I loved them both and feel no guilt and no regrets! Even better, I found perfect uses for both, so now I will share my systems (and expose my not-so-inner-geekery.) First up is my Chameleon, lovely, unique, just the right size. This is my "cover page," a silly photo strip of my daughter that never fails to crack me up when I look at it, and a homemade birthday card (made of supplies from his office) that my husband gave to me. Then comes another top opening clear envelope in which I keep things I don't want to forget about, a credit card holder page for ID, cards, etc., a personal info page that I just made using the remnants of scrapbooking papers I used to make my tabbed dividers (not pictured.) Then come the dividers themselves. I didn't label them because I am fickle and change things around too much to be able to commit, but I don't have a lot of sections (and no subsections at all) so remembering what goes where isn't really a problem. Here is my Goals/Projects/Lists section. Then comes a section for Blog Notes (I know--two blogs and no readers outside of family, but I'm a scribbler and my blog notes get their own section, OK?). Then--isn't this clever?--my diary pages. I'm using the week-on-two-pages format that came with it. It felt a little odd using the column format, but I think I could get used to it. At least till the end of the year. But I think I might go to the day-per-page format in 2012 as my week still looks like a hot mess. Then a section for notes that might go into my personal journal. Then a section for inspiration--art, fashion, hair-dos I might try. Finally a section for key information (key--get it???): websites I use, encrypted passwords, contacts, medications, etc. I love looking at my tabs. And I love how much room there is to write--my handwriting stays largely intact even with the rings. I find that the binder lays flat quite easily. But it could be because my diary pages are pretty much dead center in the binder so there is equal weight distribution when it is open. It's not as heavy as I thought it would be and fits perfectly in my handbag. I also have the Post-It insert (it was dismantled by my daughter so I just replaced the Post-Its), a jot pad, the portable hole punch, and an extra pen, but I didn't want to bulk out too much, so I keep those things (which are handy but not used daily) in a small mesh bag. So, that's my Chameleon. Perfect for everyday/work needs and not too heavy to lug around. Stay tuned...I'll introduce you to my Scarlet Adelphi next.

I built these PDF forms to help myself implement and stick to David Allen's GTD (Getting Things Done) methodology. They are both printable and editable (in PDF Forms). You'll receive all the pages in a zip file. These are designed to be printed at 8.5" x 11" with .5" margins. Capture Form is meant for capturing those "open loops" swirling around your head. Get everything down on paper! Inbox Processing is meant to get you thinking, what, where and when do I need to address this? What bucket does this go in? The Next Actions form is designed for you to put context to those next actions so you can go get them done! Remember to write down the actual next physical action to take. What project is it for? What's the Next Action Task? What's the context? What's the priority? When is it due? The Waiting For List is for those items that you've delegated or that depend on someone else taking action first. By keeping it on a list that you'll review, you can free your mind from reminding you at the improper time. What's the project? Whom are you waiting for? What are you waiting for? When should you follow up? When is it due? When was it done? There are 3 Project Forms in here for different sized projects. One full-page, one page split between 2 projects, and one page split between 5 small projects. Outline the tasks, and ask, what can be delegated? What are the context, priority and due date? Someday/Maybe List is for those tasks and projects that you just can't quite tackle in the near future but you certainly would like to make a reality someday... maybe...When did you add this to the list? (this question can be fun to see how your priorities and ideas change over time) Whats the task/idea? What is the context? What's the priority? When would you like to do it? What would be the next action? I keep several of these lists, one for home, one for work, one for travel, one for books....
