Prince Harry will arrive in New York tomorrow on his first official visit to the United States, and on Saturday he'll make his way across the harbor to Governors Island, to play in the Veuve Clicquot Manhattan Polo Classic. The Prince's Sentebale team, captained by nine-goal player Nic Roldan, will be pitted against the Black Watch team, with world-famous six-goal player Ignacio "Nacho" Figueras at its helm.In fact, Figueras, a smoldering Argentine whom you might recognize from Ralph Lauren advertisements—he has modeled for the company's Black Label line since 2005 and was recently made the face of Polo fragrances—is part of the reason this polo match got off the ground. "A mission in my life is to bring polo to the world a little more," says Figueras, who has saddled up with both Prince Harry and Prince William before. "That's how the Veuve Clicquot Manhattan Polo Classic thing got started. I'd been trying for years to play a polo match in Central Park, and I couldn't get that done—it was impossible. I couldn't get the permits. Then we found Governors Island, which was as close as we could get to Manhattan. Last year we did a much more humble version of the game, and now this year it's going to be very special. The idea is to make it even better for many years to come."To help out Saturday's spectators who know how to swig Veuve Clicquot but not how to follow the game, VF Daily called up Figueras and asked him for a polo primer.
