I know many of you will be very envious when I tell you where I've been today! You will see from the Title it was a Postcard Workshop, but we had a very special tutor. It was Gwenfai Rees Griffiths, the famous North Wales Quilter who was the Winner of the Large Traditional Patchwork quilt at the Festival of Quilts in Birmingham this year and if I understood correctly she heard today that she's also a winner at Houston. You will find her winning quilt by clicking on the Title of this post or paste this into your browser. http://www.twistedthread.com/uploads/FOQ%202008%20Presentation.pdf on page 29. We all had a thoroughly enjoyable day. These are some of the poscards we made. I finished this postcard in class using Gwenfai's design and below is the one I designed myself, which I finished after coming home. This is proof of how much I enjoyed the class, I still have things from the odd class unfinished, but I wanted to complete this one tonight.

Quilted selvage postcards in spring-y colors. I use Timtex for stabilization and card stock on the back for ease in writing. They take a regular stamp to mail and travel very well.

I’m so excited to have new fabric postcards to mail out! I don’t know what I’d do without Pinterest inspiration these days. I hope this bright cheery flower brings a smile to my recipient’s face, and joyful feelings whenever she looks at it. This artsy collage has arrived at it’s destination. It made it’s own story as I found scrap pieces to create it. It said to me, which I in turn said to Tera... And this test design block turned postcard was sent to an acquaintance quilter who could not believe my fabric postcards could go through the mail. And more to come. Happy Mail Day!
One million miles did me in. At least until now. After making hundreds of postcards in 2016, and traveling 1 million miles around the globe with your help, I took a long break. I had forgotten how …

What a wonderful Christmas Eve! Pine scent is in the air, I am off work and I just met a great artist; who could ask for more? I love stitchery and you all know I L O V E postcards! so what could be better than handmade fabric postcards. Linda Johnson, owner of Sew Upscale, creates these unique quilted postcards. I must confess that this is the first time I have seen a combination of the two arts and I think they are simply wonderful. http://www.etsy.com/shop/SewUpscale?&utm_source=Facebook&utm_medium=App_Seller&utm_content=shops&utm_campaign=fb_seller_shop Tell me a bit about yourself…… Making quilted fabric postcards has been an obsession for about three years. I thought I would get over it, get bored and want to move to something new but I haven’t. I think it is because each one is so different. Soon after I joined Etsy in 2007 as a buyer, I started selling a variety of sewn items. I saw a quilted fabric postcard and taught myself how to make one. After that, I started selling the postcards on Etsy. I have developed a style I feel is unique. I’m very lucky to have a wonderful family that encourages my passion. http://www.etsy.com/listing/88764234/fabric-postcard-art-quilt-fiber-art Apart from creating, what do you do? I am retired from my job as a social worker so my schedule is flexible. I try to exercise regularly. I walk and hike. Also love to spend time with my grandchildren. I recently got a bread machine so I have been experimenting with making bread. Traveling is also a passion of mine. What first made you want to create? Sewing was the first crafting I can remember doing. My mother and grandmother both sewed so I learned from them. I’ve just always loved to create things. Describe your creative process? My creativity is driven by my surroundings. I love nature and outdoor stuff so these are my inspiration. I don’t use a pattern. I start with a 4” by 6” piece of fabric and build from there. I draw with scissors and paint with thread. http://www.etsy.com/listing/86316659/cat-and-moon-fabric-postcard-art-quilt What handmade possession do you cherish most? A doll quilt made by my grandmother. How are you promoting your work? I promote my work online by using Facebook and Twitter. My Facebook is http://facebook.com/SewUpscaleQuilts and twitter is http://twitter.com/sewupscale. My postcards are also sold at Mountain Made in downtown Asheville, NC. Thank you Linda for taking the time to do this interview. Please stop by Linda Johnson's cute little shop Sew Upscale to see more of her amazing art. Remember to add her shop to your favorites and circle too! Happy Holidays Everyone!!!!!!

Two more postcards done and ready to mail. I love how they turned out!!! I quilted them with my Aurifil 2315-Pale Flesh and edge stitched with this gorgeous Aurifil thread-2340-Cafe' Au Lait!! I love it!! I also used a rubber bird stamp that I found at Hobby Lobby and a black ink stamp pad! So, the fabric did start out looking like this. I played with some Crayola crayons!!! Here is a photo of what the fabric looked like before I started and what it ended up looking like after I played with melted crayons and freezer paper flowers!!! It was a LOT of FUN!!!!!! Before and After One of these little gems will soon be on it's way to Malaga Spain!! I decided to use some of the same fabric that I began with on the front-before crayons-for the back!! Then used my postcard stamp, and done!! I am thankful for Aurifil for their lovely threads that allow me to incorporate color and design into my creations, and Crayola for their amazing, safe, crayons. Take care everyone, Happy Quilting, and keep those seam rippers sharp!!! I use mine A LOT!!! :^) Martha

Fabric Postcards are 4" x 6" works of art that you can actual mail! Here is a tutorial with lots of embellishing ideas.
Good morning! Does anyone else love Pinterest a little too much? I just love looking for ideas and tutorials. Lately I’ve been looking at fabric crafts and decided to make some postcards. These were really a lot of fun to make. I did mess up a bit, but not enough to ruin anything. Lol - - - live and learn. Here’s what I made. Some are in a plastic sleeve already. (These jellyfish were inspired by Krebsbachhuber Crafts) (These beach houses were inspired by Stitches by Julia) On the beach scenes I attached seashells. Wish I had some starfish ⭐️ . So many stores in town have closed and it’s hard to find some things, so they have to be ordered. I’m sure you run into the same if you’re not living in a major city. Anyway, these are lots of fun to make and the backs on three of them have cardstock postcards so they can be mailed. By the way, did you know you can address them and leave them in the crystal sleeve? Just make sure the stamp is on the outside. (If you like your messages to be private, a slip of paper will hide it, just make sure it isn’t on the side with the mailing address). The other two I backed with fabric. They can be framed or mailed in an envelope. You can sew these on or glue them on. There are several free postcard printables available on Pinterest, but I used these ones by Ihanna, Ihanna. I don’t know if I like the zigzag stitching so I may be making the next few with proper binding. While I was playing anyways I threw these two together. They’re slightly larger and fit in 8x10 frames. They’d be good for a kids room. I plan on making some larger landscape themed fabric pictures to frame soon. These are also in a plastic sleeve to keep them clean. Well, that’s all for today. I hope you enjoyed these. Have a great week, Carmen
