Purple Butterflies, a photo by cathroff on Flickr. Hi, I finally found some time to make a card for a couple of challenges. It's been a busy week and it's only Tuesday! The theme at Addicted to CAS this week is Wings. At CAS on Sunday the theme this fortnight is flutterby, to use a butterfly in your project. I'm also going to enter a new challenge for me Crazy for CAS, where there are a number of texts or sayings to inspire your card. Beautiful as a butterfly suits my card. Thanks Sientje for the suggestion. Materials used: Memory Box butterfly stamp and a small butterfly stamp that I've had for ages; Prismacolor pencils; Tiny Bubbles embossing folder; sentiment sticker and cardstock from stash. Thanks for looking :)
Another Wednesday has arrived and another sketch challenge at SCS has been given. I have been trying to get a handle on "scraps". I was trying to put like colors in a pile. I found this little image that has hidden away in the scraps. After holding it for a few seconds, I realized there were lots of little purple pieces laying on the table. With a little looking and some thinking, I was able to get a card made for this week's challenge. The sketch was so much fun to work with. The focal imagine was created with SU Sihouette Sentiments hostess stamp set. For the backgound paper I used a Sizzix embossing folder. Using a brayer I inked one side with Memento Sweet Plum ink and then embossed the paper. This technique really makes the embossing pop. I also used the Memento Sweet Plum ink to sponge around the edges of the lighter card stock.

Happy Birthday card
Good Morning Magnolia stamp set which will be available for purchase from my online store from the 4th June when the new Annual Catalogue launches.
The challenge this week at SCS is to create something that has light to dark colors.....this technique is also called Ombre which is defined as "graduated colors from light to dark on a surface". Starting with the lightest shade of a color (any color), use light, medium, and dark shades of the same color to create a background or main image. I'm finding this particular quilt pattern intriguing these days. First of all it's easier than most and you get some wonderful movement with colors. I found instructions on Nancy Riley's blog. Now I can't stop making the squares. I think it works so well with the graduating colors in purple (or any) colors. The daisies are a favorite of mine to make. Big impact with not much fuss. I used Martha Stewarts daisy punch and a Punch Bunch small sun punch. Each daisy has four layers plus one in green. The Verve small "hello" sentiment fits nicely in the one inch square.
It is time for the Inspired by Stamping April Release! Every 1st-5th of the month IBS shares "teasers" of the new release. Then, the 6th-9th of each month the design team will share project "peeks" of the release. The FULL release is shared on the 10th! I get to share my project using Creative Tags, set of 24 stamps. I used my current favorite color: purple! I love this delicate purple and white combination! I stamped the script tag from the Creative Tags set onto purple cardstock with white ink. I also stamped the "for you" sentiment from the set. I used white embossing powder to heat emboss the tag and sentiment, then I fussy cut it out with scissors. To crate the mini banners under the ribbon, I stamped the banner tag from the Creative Tags set onto white cardstock with purple ink, then fussy cut them and trimmed them down to fit under the ribbon. For the inside of the card I stamped the "happy birthday" sentiment from Creative Tags with purple ink onto the white cardstock. To create the flower, I used the Spring Blossoms set. I stamped the flower and the stem once onto scrap paper to tone down the ink, then stamped onto my card. The result is a soft, watercolor look. I hope you enjoyed peeking at the new Creative Tags set (and the new Spring Blossoms set)! Go and see what the other DT members are sharing today! Hello crafty friends. It's a new month and the start of a new CAS Mix Up challenge. This month my dear and very talented friend Loll is hosting the challenge. You'll find video tutorials on the CAS Mix Up site as well as Loll's blog. As you'll see, there's more than one way to use a used paper towel on our cards. My dear granddaughter had a play with Brushos and Lindy's Magicals a while ago and we saved the paper towels from her mop up. She used LOTS of crystals so we had some very vibrant mop ups! Want to see some? For this card, I laid an inky paper towel over a piece of Neenah cardstock, spritzed liberally with water and pressed down into the cardstock. Loll (and Jack) do much better about getting the pattern from the paper towel but if you look real close in the upper right corner, you can see a little. I've splattered a little Wilted Violet re-inker onto the background piece and stamped the sentiment in the same color ink. The flowers were die cut and watercolored with Zigs and a waterbrush. I created the little twirly paper with my CutterPillar. It will cut a very thin strip that curls. I used a piece of watercolored paper to cut them from. Our very talented Design Team along with our Guest Designer, Betty, have some awesome inspiration for you. I hope you'll head over to CAS Mix Up to check them out, then pull out some inky paper towels and join in the fun! Thanks for the visit and special thanks for your comments. Enjoy! Card Recipe Stamps: Friendship Messages (SSS) Ink: Used Zig to ink sentiment (#84 Deep Violet) Paper: Neenah, Mixed Media (Strathmore 400 series) Other: Long Stem Lavender Die (MB), Zig CCRBM (#80 Violet, #84 Deep Violet, #46 Mid Green, #43 Olive Green), Brushos and/or Lindy's Magical Powders, Stitched Rectangle Die (SSS)
Hi, purple is one of my favourite colours so I wanted to enter the challenge at The Card Concept which has a monochromatic purple theme. I think my card fits the clean and simple category. I'm also popping back to Stamplorations where the challenge is to use a stamp and a flower on your project. I've fussy cut the Hero Arts antique engraving butterfly stamp and used petal pleasures embossing folder as my flower element. Addicted to Stamps & More has a clean and simple theme. Edited to add: I've realized that this card also fits the theme of time flies love lasts at the Time Out Challenge. You can use the whole sentiment or any of the words as inspiration, so my butterflies fit. (Thanks for the suggestion Sandie). Materials used: Hero Arts butterfly stamp; versafine ink & clear embossing powder; prismacolor pencils & gamsol; CC petal pleasures embossing folder; sentiment sticker, stickles and bling. Thanks for visiting :) Cathy x

Welcome to Challenge 308 at Atlantic Hearts! This week's sketch is an interesting one because it provides definitive blocks... and how you choose to interpret those blocks may be interesting to see. I wanted borders around my blocks and I had to do some careful measuring to achieve that. I also wanted an image that would cover all four blocks and still give me room for a small sentiment. The background needed something and I chose a small embossing pattern. The lilies were stamped and coloured and I accidentally cut them incorrectly the first time... and had to stamp and colour the image a second time. Ah, such is life. The blocks were mounted using foam tape to make them stand out more. Come and join us at Atlantic Hearts and show us how you interpret the sketch shown above. You have until Sunday evening to link up your project. Products used are as follows: Paper: Thistle Cardstock, Willow Cardstock, White Daisy Cardstock (all CTMH), Neenah Solar White Cardstock Stamps: Thank You Friend (Gina K Designs), Beautiful Peacock (SU) Inks: Intense Black, Thistle (both CTMH) Accessories: Dot Embossing Folder (Cuttlebug), Purple Gems (CTMH), ShinHan Markers, Foam Tape Enjoy, Alyson

Welcome to Week #80 at CASology, where the cue word is PURPLE. How fun is that? How do you feel about purple--love it? hate it? I had a good time with this challenge. I like purple, so I was like--bring it on--how many shades of purple can I get on my card? I pulled out my stash of paint chips I had swiped from our local paint store way back when. I found one that had lots of shades of purple on it, and based my card around that. I cut the paint chip down to size and used it as a border on my card. I stamped my sentiment (from Bigger Blooms), ran my white panel through the Big Shot with the Picnic Plaid Impression plate, and then adhered two die cut Prim Poppy die cuts in Royal Velvet and Winter Wisteria. Popped my front panel up with dimensional adhesive, stuck on a few sequins, and I was done. In case you are wanting to paint your house these colors--here are their Sherwin-Williams names, top to bottom: Purple Passate, Mythical, Ash Violet and Grape Mist. Check out the beautiful designs from the CASology Design Team members and see how they were inspired by PURPLE. Then, please play along and link your creation to the CASology blog by Sunday, February 2 by 4PM (CST). How will you be inspired by PURPLE? Ardyth Percy-Robb Gillian Ross Jen Wills Joyce Mehrberg (that's me) Judy Marino Kimberly Wiener Maureen Merritt May Park Meghan McMillan Melissa Chipperfield Tracey McNeely I can't wait to see how you are inspired by PURPLE. Thanks for Visiting
Something that has been on my "to do" list for a while is a double cascade card, where you basically have two interlocking angled "z" fold cards. I used the directions in Sonia's post, but altered the measurements so my base panels are 12" long x 3" at the front & 6" at the rear. Here is my first card, made in SU blues:- Here is a view from the top, so you can see the concertina effect:- They flatten out, but still need a box rather than an envelope to accommodate them, so I made a custom box to match:- This is what it looks like on opening:- & here they both are together:- & because these cards are so much fun to make, I made a purple one too:- Thanks for stopping by! :) Card Components All Stampin' Up! Cardstock & Ink Colours BLUE - Lost Lagoon, Baja Breeze, Soft Sky, Pear Pizzazz & Very Vanilla PURPLE - Elegant Eggplant, Perfect Plum, Pale Plum, Certainly Celery & Whisper White

Today it is a butterfly CAS for Mother's Day. Last week, I asked how many shades of green can you use on one card. Today it is how many shades of purple. I used 3 different shades of purple for the stripes. The butterfly is a die cut from SU. I sponged on some purple dies and put purple gems on the body. The sentiment is an old one form The Angel Company stamped in SU Wisteria Wonder. The inside has another purple shade strip alongside a computer message. I used the sketch from Freshly Made Sketches Inspiration from picture at The Card Concept
