Catalina loves Cats. That's why as soon as I saw this quilt pattern, I knew it was for her. It is titled Pins and Paws from the Missouri Star Quilt Company. There was some fun quilting on this quilt. I love pieced backs. It's also a good way to use up left over fabric. This backing idea is from Gyleen Fitzgerald. This is one of my favorite border quilting patterns. I love quilted straight lines. They add so much movement to a quilt. The whole quilt. Richard thought the quilting was odd, but I think it is very modern. As always, a label.

Here is one to all the gardeners out there! We are about a month away from being able to work the soil and plant here. I am looking forward to it this year.
This quilt symbolizes love, friendship and hope. It's going to the home of a dear friend of mine whom I've known since Junior High. She just found out that her 3-year old daughter has stage 2 Burkitts Lymphoma. Recovery looks promising for her daughter, Bella, but we wanted to send something warm and comforting for her to wrap up in during her chemo treatments. When I say "we" I am referring to some of my best friends from high school. They had the idea that we make her something warm and I knew this pattern would be the perfect one. It's adapted from a cute pattern by LizzieB Cre8ive called Listen to Your Heart. Now. I grew up in Washington State. So they all live there and I live here in Utah. Most of them do not sew nor do they own a sewing machine. But through email, a few phone calls, and lots of texts they were able to make some beautiful blocks for Bella and send them my way. I made several simple ones, like this: But they all really went to town and embellished with flowers, lace, rick rack, ribbons and buttons. Their blocks were beautiful! It didn't take long to put all the blocks together and then I took it to my quilty friend Jen Ostler, who quilted it the day I dropped it off to her! She gets the award for faster turnaround ever! Jen is my quilter who I go to if I need something free handed. I needed someone who could quilt around buttons and rick rack. She did a beautiful job. And, as an extra, fun little bonus, she always hides an unexpected object for the recipient to find. Do you see it? I'm sure Bella will love hunting for her butterfly! I have to thank Jen (again) because when I went to pick it up that night she told me that there would be no charge. I really wanted to pay her but she insisted. So with the money we would have spent on quilting we'll be getting Bella some pj's and/or a stuffed animal. I have really loved being a part of this special project. It's been so fun to reconnect with old friends and pull together in honor of Bella (and her mother ~ our dear friend, Kym). We hope and pray for their family and hope this quilt will symbolize our love and concern for them. Thanks for stopping by today. Happy quilting! ~ Amber
Patchwork Hearts Scrappy rainbow quilt by Emily of Quilty Love. Sew through your scrap stash with this cute heart quilt pattern.
Today was a day to just get to some things. Get them taken care of. First thing I did was clean out the refrigerator. Ugh. Why do I let my refrig get so icky? Probably because I just hate the job of pulling everything out and deciding what is worth keeping. If you let it go long enough, there is little doubt! No photos. Count yourselves lucky. Next I photographed my entry for the "Rituals" invitational. This is "Friendship Ritual". This commemorates my yearly ritual of designing, making and sending Valentines. I described the stitched pattern connecting all these hearts as a network of connection that becomes more important to me as the years go by. It is really about friendship and what it means in a life. This is the third year I have been invited to submit to the Dinner at Eight show. The previous entries have both been accepted. I hope this one is. It is, by far, my favorite of the three. I sent the entry off this afternoon. Have you seen this blog? I am enchanted by Mr. Finch's moths. I keep thinking about them and today made myself a moth. I purposely did not go back to look at Mr. Finch's moths and made myself come up with my own design. Kind of hilariously chubby and awkward compared to his elegant creatures. Anyway, I kind of like my porky little moth and I got it out of my system. Like the moth that urged me to make it, I found a recipe online that has been nagging me. Senegalese peanut soup. I made it for dinner tonight. Very, very delicious. Mmmm. Warm and flavorful and spicy. So satisfying. The recipe can be found here. All right then. I had a good Saturday, and have tasty, leftover soup for yet another day.

Recently I got to spend some time quilting on this lovely wool folk art quilt made by a customer. I just love it, and marveled at each and every block as I worked on it ~ so much so, I just had to share some photos :) The quilt maker, Margaret shared with me that it was a labor or love done in collaboration with her mother, Pat who did some of the embroidery and cotton fabric applique on it. What a special work of art :) You can see this lovely piece in person soon ~ Margaret says it will be shown at the Milltown Quilters Show April 27th thru 29th here in Columbia Maryland at the First Presbyterian Church of Howard County. Information on the Quilt Show can be found Here on the Milltown website. ~ We'll be vending at the show too, so stop by and say Hi when you come!

In this email you will have a unique URL link to click on which will lead you back to our website and the following screen: Click on the words "Download Now" so that a little window pops up for you to select whether you want to open it as a PDF or save it to your computer. Be patient with your first attempt - the file is large, so it may take a few moments to load the PDF depending on your ISP connection speed. Once the window pops up you can select either option of whether to "Open" or "Save". If saving it, just be sure to make a note of where you are saving it on your computer so you can retrieve it later. If you click on your download link and a web browser appears but only presents you with a white screen or downloading doesn't appear to take place, most likely there is an incompatibility between the web browser you are using, your system software, and the way our website serves files. First try switching to a different web browser. (For example, if you are using Internet Explorer, try starting the download with Firefox instead. We have found that Firefox works very well!)However, if switching browsers does not work for you, try downloading it from your laptop or desktop computer rather than an iPad or mobile device. This usually solves the issue as the iPad tends to hide downloaded files in odd places and requires a reader app to open it (Adobe Reader App or Kindle App are free). If all else fails, you can forward your email link to a friend or local copy center business to have them download and print it for you.
