This weekend was an absolute whirlwind of house project goodness. Sawdust was blowing, paint was flying, there’s sheet rock dust in my hair, and we made a super mess of our house. Big mess typically equals major house project progress. So this week we’ll be spending some time cleaning up our messes and blogging about […]

This is a PDF of the 'Hearts Crossed' quilt pattern. It is a beginner to intermediate pattern just in time for Valentine's Day. The pictured quilts are the 96 inch square queen quilts but it comes with instructions for 5 different sizes. It is a quick sew because the blocks are large. A single block makes the perfect pillow.

Another quilt finished! Almost two years ago I posted pictures of my Early Bird quilt top , and it’s hung in the closet ever since. Until last month, that is, when I summoned the courage to try an all over free motion quilting design on it. I actually quilted this quilt before quilting my On a Whim quilt , because [...]
This is a PDF digital copy. After purchase, you can instantly view the pattern under your Etsy account. Click on Purchases, then Downloads. Viewing the pattern works best on a laptop or desktop. PLEASE NOTE: when printing templates, be sure your printer is set to "Actual Size" NOT "Scale to Fit". Mountain Horizon is inspired by the way the sun rises and falls over a mountain range, and the resulting colors of the horizon. Each block plays off the next with the sun coming between two mountain peaks. This is an intermediate pattern, which requires sewing curves and working with bias edges. This pattern assumes that the quilter has a basic knowledge of quilting. Paper templates for the curved pieces are provided and I recommend cutting them out and tracing them onto a sturdy surface such as cardboard or plastic template paper. This pattern is written for five sizes: Wall Hanging (16" x 33"), Baby (33" x 33"), Throw (49" x 65"), Full/Queen (81" x 114"), and King (114" x 114"). Since this pattern is block based, you can easily add or subtract blocks to customize size. This pattern is written for use of Fat Eighths/Quarters or Yardage. A Fat Eighth is considered a 9 x 21" cut of fabric and a Fat Quarter is considered a 18 x 21" cut of fabric. All yardage is assumed to be 42" wide. All seam allowances are 1/4". This pattern includes helpful diagrams and a coloring page to help you plan your fabric selection. Tip! Pattern requires cutting along bias edges, meaning fabric is prone to stretch. Handle fabric carefully and use starch as desired. Pattern is for one person use. Copying, redistributing or selling is strictly prohibited. You may sell quilts made using this pattern on a small independent scale. Please credit design to Lo & Behold Stitchery. Throw quilt with purple was created by Eliane Bergmann. Wall hanging quilt was made by Fran Gulick. Enjoy!

Laundry can be fun! My laundry room features a wall of small quilts that I have made over the year. Most of them have been made using an antique doll quilt as inspiration. A lot of them are featured in this book. The quilt in the top left corner is a favorite. You can find the pattern in our Collection of Small Vintage Quilts. See the little quilt folded on the top of the basket? That is my mothers doll quilt and has here named embroidered on the back - so special. I use little tiny nails to attach yardsticks to wall. Leave the heads sticking out so you can hook the nail into the binding between the stitches.
Huge list of sew and no sew projects for fabric scraps. Make gifts, jewelery or home decor items out of the trimmings, crumbs and other items you would normally toss in the scrap bin.

Besides the pillow cover that I showed you in my last blog post, I have recently been testing another quilt pattern, “Strudel”, this time for Xanthe from Wife-Made. I have baked several strudels in the past, this was the first one I stitched up! I never felt a need for tassels in my home before ... Read More about It all started with a tassel…

This modular recipe is designed to use up Advent calendar mini skeins and scrap yarns, with each triangle requiring as little as 4-5 grams of sock-DK yarn. Enjoy! TRIANGLES, a Knitted Quilt, is a recipe to create a quilt inspired knitting piece. Following the recipe you’ll knit strips of triangles, which later will be sewn together to endless possibilities. My suggestions includes a cushion, different sizes of blankets, and wearables wrap and scarf, but you could use the recipe to your fancy. Why not sewing the strips to create a sweater, or a simple square open cardigan, in Elizabeth Zimmermann style? I can’t wait to create more pieces, and see your unique creations taking shape. Designed for my first Advent Calendar and inspired by scrappy Christmas Quilts, use this easy recipe to create your own heirloom piece for years to come, may it be a blanket, a cushion, a scarf, it will be loved and passed by. Designed for both sock and DK yarn, and in multiple sizings, this modular design will work perfectly with your precious Advent yarn kits, but will be just amazing with any yarn! I hope you can use this recipe as a blank canvas to create your own palette, maybe using those single skeins which have been laying around for awhile, or the precious hand dyed minis which you’ve been treasuring, or every little scrappy left from previous projects, with each triangle requiring as little as 4-5 grams of yarn. Sizes | Measurements The finished piece is easily adaptable and customizable. See pictures for detailed sizings. Multiple ideas are given to work with a yarn Advent calendar of 24/25 * 20gr mini skeins (for a total of 480/500 grams), but any number of mini skeins and/or big skeins and/or yarn can be used, finished dimension will vary accordingly. Consider 1/2 extra mini skeins for sewing and finishing the edge of your piece. One triangle measures around 12cm / 4¾” per side and uses around 4 (5) gr of Sock (DK) weight yarn, so you will be able to knit around 5 (4) full triangles with one mini skein of Sock (DK) yarn. Suggested Needles Sock (DK) weight version: 3mm / US2-3 (4mm / US6) circular needles, I suggest 60cm / 24” long, or dpns. And a crochet hook in the same size or one size larger to crochet the edge for finishing, as I did on my cushion. Gauge The gauge isn’t crucial on this project, but differences will affect the finished measurements and yarn amount needed. Sock (DK) weight version: 12sts & 22rows (9sts & 16rows) = 5cm/2” in garter stitch, worked flat, and blocked.

I've been working on Christmas gifts. I originally wanted to make quilts this year but as time kept slipping by I knew it wouldn't be manageable. ....so as I was longarming one day and my thoughts were going everywhere, I had a light bulb moment! Why not give quilts I all ready have! I was completely ecstatic about this and knew I could manage it. A couple of the quilts needed and need to be finished up but they were and are close to being done. My friend found this antique quilt at a real estate sale and gave it to me knowing I would know what to do with it. It really is a treasure! All hand quilted with looks like feed sack material. The border was tattered and there wasn't any binding on it. I cut the border off and added the binding yesterday. I then washed it, it looked like it had never been washed and it washed up beautifully! I find it so neat that even though this is a traditional antique quilt it has a modern look to it because of the solid blue and white fabric! Even the prints have a modern feel to it. Unfortunately there was no information on the back of the quilt as to who pieced and quilted it, but WOW...the talent! Look at the beautiful hand quilted stitches and all those Y-seams! WOW!! I was able to match the blue perfectly for the binding. I love antique quilts and wouldn't give this to anyone other than someone very special in my life, I hope she likes it! This is one of 5 quilts gifted out and I hope their new homes enjoy them as much as I have enjoyed them. ~Jenny~
