A Balatonhoz szélén fekszik egymás közelében Tótszentpál, Varjaskér, Buzsák és Táska község, ahol a népies hímzőművészetnek talán legtöbb termékét találjuk. Nagy hírnévre tett szert e somogyi falvak hímzése és rátétes munkája.Ruházatuk alapanyaga a len és a kender…
Today was a day to just get to some things. Get them taken care of. First thing I did was clean out the refrigerator. Ugh. Why do I let my refrig get so icky? Probably because I just hate the job of pulling everything out and deciding what is worth keeping. If you let it go long enough, there is little doubt! No photos. Count yourselves lucky. Next I photographed my entry for the "Rituals" invitational. This is "Friendship Ritual". This commemorates my yearly ritual of designing, making and sending Valentines. I described the stitched pattern connecting all these hearts as a network of connection that becomes more important to me as the years go by. It is really about friendship and what it means in a life. This is the third year I have been invited to submit to the Dinner at Eight show. The previous entries have both been accepted. I hope this one is. It is, by far, my favorite of the three. I sent the entry off this afternoon. Have you seen this blog? I am enchanted by Mr. Finch's moths. I keep thinking about them and today made myself a moth. I purposely did not go back to look at Mr. Finch's moths and made myself come up with my own design. Kind of hilariously chubby and awkward compared to his elegant creatures. Anyway, I kind of like my porky little moth and I got it out of my system. Like the moth that urged me to make it, I found a recipe online that has been nagging me. Senegalese peanut soup. I made it for dinner tonight. Very, very delicious. Mmmm. Warm and flavorful and spicy. So satisfying. The recipe can be found here. All right then. I had a good Saturday, and have tasty, leftover soup for yet another day.
The Quiet Little Mouse is a pattern for a 4" stuffed mouse knitted in the round, stuffed with polyester fiberfill. The pattern for the hat is included. You should know how to knit in the round to attempt this pattern, as well as basic knowledge of increases and decreases. I've included the instructions for both knitting and crocheting the ears; choose whichever you prefer. My mouse is made in worsted weight wool and has size 6mm black plastic safety eyes.
Another wonderful studio session with Miles at Captivelight.co.uk in Bournemouth. We spent the day photographing harvest mice and frogs, my apologies in advance for the flood of cuteness in the coming days.

It's a big world out there for these tiny cuties.

These insanely adorable pictures may just make you see rats in a whole new light.
Now I have to warn you…….this is a very long post but so worth it! Do remember that you can click on any image to see a close up (and you can also scroll through them all). And dearest Helen from Whitecroft tours…….I dedicate this entry to you…..I wish you could have been here with me - it is truly breath taking and I hope the display can travel further afield. It would be so special if it could be in the UK with the 150th anniversary events. The quilts are absolute eye candy and I can honestly say after 30 years of quilting I have never seen such perfection……these Japanese quilters are absolute masters. They have captured all things Beatrix Potter with incredible accuracy - so much detail and nearly all entirely hand stitched. I phoned Larry this afternoon and said I was giving up on doing my own Beatrix Potter book…..you will see why! Enjoy it all (and again I have not included the maker as it was all in Japanese - check here for that info)………. Some of the quilts were small framed ones………... I do hope you have enjoyed the quilts (downloading and formatting has kept me occupied for 2 hours!). Most of these works of art were hand appliquéd, hand quilted and hand embroidered - truly grand masters of quilting…….I have many more photos I could share but blogger might shut me down! I have hand stitched a small gift from home for every one of these quilters which I am hoping I can leave for someone to pass on who actually understands me tomorrow! More of the general quilt entries as well tomorrow x
UPDATE November 2019 !!! PDF patterns of my animals are NOW AVAILABLE in my ETSY shop !!! New instant download PDF animal sewing patterns If you are looking to make some of these lovely little mice by yourself then head to my Etsy shop where you can purchase a PDF pattern for these little cuties. The PDF patterns are all detailed step-by-step photo tutorials and they come with a handy stitch guide for hand stitching. Most of the stages can be stitched with a sewing machine too. You can find out more details in my ETSY shop. Here are photos of my very first mice, owls, shrews, teddy bears and lavender hearts, but if you head to BILBERRY WOODS ANIMALS section you can see the whole current collection of animals that I am working into PDF sewing patterns. There are 26 animal characters so soon there will be plenty to choose from! Also if you have a look at other items in the DESIGN PORTFOLIO or SHOP section, you'll see some other items that will be turned into PDF patterns in 2020. But more than that I hope my blog page will give you some inspiration for your own craft projects. Happy Making!! These owls are my original designs and the very first Bilberry Woods animals that I created. They are made from British tweed fabric and filled with recycled polyester and steel pellets. They are as great paperweights. I sold hundreds of these, and the mice and shrews, to Liberty in London and other shops too. In fact, my animals have been sold to over 25 countries around the world!

I don't often do 'cute', but this might be an exception.
