Welcome to On My Radar, a new feature I am introducing here featuring books that are upcoming that I'm excited about, interested in reading, or just wanting to share with others. Today's post is a list of fiction (adult and YA) books with Jewish representation that are being published in 2021. I am sure this is not an exhaustive list, but I am happy I found as many as I did, as Jewish representation is not something I often see in the books I read. Also, this is only through June, so maybe I will do another list for the second half of the year when it is closer!
We rounded up our most anticipated YA books of 2021, and now we want to make sure they're on your radar, too! Let us know what you'll be reading.

I was sad to see Helene Tursten's Detective Inspector Irene Huss mystery series come to an end. Well, it's always sad when a favorite series ends, but I really can't fault writers for running out of ideas to keep a series fresh or just wanting to try something new. When I learned that Tursten had the first book in a new series due to be released at the end of February, I did a little happy dance. I'm really looking forward to beginning a new journey with this author, and when I tell you a bit about the new book, you might be, too! Available February 26, 2019! Synopsis: "Twenty-eight-year-old Embla Nyström has been plagued by chronic nightmares and racing thoughts ever since she can remember. She has learned to channel most of her anxious energy into her position as Detective Inspector in the mobile unit in Gothenburg, Sweden, and into sports. A talented hunter and prize-winning Nordic welterweight, she is glad to be taking a vacation from her high-stress job to attend the annual moose hunt with her family and friends. But when Embla arrives at her uncle’s cabin in rural Dalsland, she sees an unfamiliar face has joined the group: Peter, enigmatic, attractive, and newly divorced. And she isn’t the only one to notice. One longtime member of the hunt doesn’t welcome the presence of an outsider and is quick to point out that with Peter, the group’s number reaches thirteen, a bad omen for the week. Sure enough, a string of unsettling incidents follows, culminating in the disappearance of two hunters. Embla takes charge of the search, and they soon find one of the missing men floating facedown in the nearby lake. With the help of local reinforcements, Embla delves into the dark pasts of her fellow hunters in search of a killer." I think we could almost be forgiven for thinking that Tursten has created in Embla Nyström a younger version of Irene Huss. There are similarities, but I don't remember Huss being plagued with nightmares, and Nyström definitely sounds like an outdoors person, doesn't she? Any fellow Huss fans out there who are looking forward to this book, too? Or... are you new to Helene Tursten's work and think this book sounds like something you want to read? Inquiring minds would love to know!

I know that many of you are fans of Elly Griffiths, especially of her Dr. Ruth Galloway mystery series which I think is superb (and I don't sling that adjective around lightly). When I saw Griffiths posting a cover reveal on her Instagram account, I must admit to a rather boisterous "Yippee!"-- which, since I was in the lymphedema clinic at the time, led to some questions. She's written another standalone novel that's due out in the UK in October, and I've already pre-ordered it. (I just can't wait for the US editions of her books.) Let me tell you more about it! Available in the UK on October 1, 2020 Synopsis: "PS: Thanks for the murders. The death of a ninety-year-old woman with a heart condition should absolutely not be suspicious. DS Harbinder Kaur certainly sees nothing to concern her in carer Natalka's account of Peggy Smith's death. But when Natalka reveals that Peggy lied about her heart condition and that she had been sure someone was following her... And that Peggy Smith had been a 'murder consultant' who plotted deaths for authors, and knew more about murder than anyone has any right to... And when clearing out Peggy's flat ends in Natalka being held at gunpoint by a masked figure... Well then DS Harbinder Kaur thinks that maybe there is no such thing as an unsuspicious death after all. From the sleepy seaside town of Shoreham to the granite streets of Aberdeen and the shores of Lake Baikal, The Postscript Murders is a literary mystery for fans of Antony Horowitz, Agatha Christie and anyone who's ever wondered just how authors think up such realistic crimes... PS: Trust no one." Sounds like a good'un, doesn't it? I can't wait to get my hands on it, that's for sure!

I've been a fan of Australian author Jane Harper since her first book, The Dry. When she had a limited five-stop book tour here in the U.S., I was so lucky to be able to see her at The Poisoned Pen, and I wrote a blog post about it. Her last book, The Lost Man, was one of my Best Reads of 2019. So it goes without saying that I whooped and hollered and happy danced when I learned that she will have a new book coming out in February 2021. Let me share more about the book. Available February 2, 2021! Synopsis: "Kieran Elliott's life changed forever on the day a reckless mistake led to devastating consequences. The guilt that still haunts him resurfaces during a visit with his young family to the small coastal community he once called home. Kieran's parents are struggling in a town where fortunes are forged by the sea. Between them all is his absent brother, Finn. When a body is discovered on the beach, long-held secrets threaten to emerge. A sunken wreck, a missing girl, and questions that have never washed away..." It must be due to all the sailors in the family, but the sea and coastal areas are always one of my favorite settings, especially in other countries. I'm really looking forward to The Survivors. How about you? Are you already a Jane Harper fan? She certainly gives readers a feel for Australia, so if you're not a fan and since this book is a standalone, this would be the perfect time to add a new author to your reading list!
