A courtesan stands at a wash-tub, washing her last shift. She wears a cap over ringlets in curl-papers and a tattered petticoat, a shawl covers her naked shoulders. The room is squalid, with plaster falling from the bricks. Across the fireplace stockings hang on a string to dry. The corner of a bed appears on the right. On the table by the wash-tub is a small gin tankard. Under it is a pair of stays. A cat tries to reach a (broken) plate of cheese on a chair. On the floor, beside a fashionable high-crowned hat, lies a ballad: 'How happy were my days till now...'. Papers are thrust under the vertical bar of the casement window, one inscribed 'Admit Two to the Boxes'. Probably an imitation of Gillray's 'The Whores Last Shift', see BMSat 5604. c.1792 Hand-coloured mezzotint

One of the biggest complaints I hear in reenacting is about the "quality" of events. You'll hear one reenactor complaining that they hardly got to fire their guns, another complain that the whole event was nothing but a "shoot 'em up", and people like me that complain that they just didn't learn enough or see enough new things. The truth is that there are many ways to reenact and ALL of these ways can have value.

While a lot of people spend a lot of time developing their personal style, few can say they have medieval dresses hanging in their closet. YouTuber Bernadette Banner has more than just a few. Furthermore, she’s made all of them by hand. “I study the history of dress through practical experimentation and reconstruction, exploring historical eras preceding the introduction of the electric sewing machine because technology is weird,” she says.

To some the 1910's is considered the beginning of modern fashion. Hems above the ankle... soft and fluid lines... Orientalism... harem pants and turbans... kimonos... hobble skirts... corsets to support, not constrict... lampshade tunics... the beginning of Chanel. What crazy decade in fashion was this? The 1910's!
I realy didn't remember where I've downloaded these... Hope they'r legal! By the way I love the fall colors ans the pretty dresses with matching hats. We do hunting/working things with our dogs (roughaired dachshunds) so thats why it took also my interest... Lucky me I live now; I can wear my FjällRäven trousers, Dubarry boots and warm fleece or wax coat! But I still like to wear a green hat!
