Winter is here in full force and 3 million Syrian refugees are struggling to keep warm. This past week alone 6 refugees froze to death, 4 of them children. Besides harsh cold and inadequate shelter, refugees face other miseries. We talked with some of Syria's most active artists who revealed more painful truths about the refugee crisis and how they've interpreted the plight of a nation with their art.

Hace casi 3 años que mi mirada se paró en unas sandalias blancas. Era una foto en un periódico, había visto otras muy parecidas en los meses anteriores, pero esas se me clavaron lo suficiente como para escribirlo en un post. (Las sandalias blancas, 7 de mayo de 2013). 3 años han pasado, pero no ha cambiado mucho, o nada. Quizás el escenario, y no porque allí ya no pase, sino porque la atención de los medios está ahora en otro sitio, a las puertas de nuestras casas. Llevamos semanas viendo camisetas rojas, o unos vaqueros con el dibujo de una raspa de pez, una camisa blanca con volantes, un gorro con pompón azul, unas botas azules, unos calcetines rosas, un buzo con orejas de osito, un chupete verde, un chupete blanco, otro chupete verde... y te cuesta quitártelas de la cabeza, y te cuesta contener las lágrimas, y no comprendes cómo puede estar pasando esto ni porqué lo estamos permitiendo. Para estos pequeños ya se ha acabado todo, ayer mismo otros supimos de otros tres, uno de ellos un bebé de meses. Pero sigue habiendo miles de niños no viviendo, sino malviviendo, entre la guerra o entre tiendas de campaña en Europa, y seguirá habiendo niños que intenten cruzar el mar, si cierran unas fronteras, lo harán por otras. Nada va a detener a los padres que quieren para sus hijos simplemente un sitio donde poder estar en paz. Cuesta creer que los señores de traje que andan decidiendo lo que hacemos y lo que dejamos de hacer no vean estas imágenes, o si las ven, que no reaccionen ante ellas. Cuesta mucho verles sonreir tras firmar un acuerdo que, según dice hasta organismos como la ONU, no es legal. Pero es que es inmoral e inhumano. Pensábamos que esto en nuestra avanzada, civilizada, moderna Europa no pasaba. Que el tema de los derechos humanos lo teníamos superado, sobre todo después de un pasado duro del que aún quedan supervivientes para contarnos cómo fue. No puedo creerme que los políticos de nuestro país no hablen de esto, salvo alguna excepción, y que no se posicionen y nos cuenten excatamente qué defendemos nosotros. Hoy por primera vez en días, algo se ha hablado, pero es un eco muy lejano. España se comprometió a acoger a más de 17 mil personas. Llevamos 18. Y ahora se vuelve a comprometer a acoger a 450. ¿Qué cojones es esto? Será que están más ocupados jugando a las sillas. Esto no importa. No es una cuestión política, no es ni izquierda ni derecha, es humanidad. De verdad que no comprendo cómo se puede estar tan tranquilo mientras miles de personas duermen al raso, familias enteras que están huyendo de sus países no por capricho, no lo entiendo. Que nos importe un pito... que los queramos devolver, echar, a esos mismos que han recorrido kilometros con sus hijos en brazos, que han visto cómo el mar arrancaba vidas recien empezadas.. otra vez, a la casilla de salida. Lo de antes era una barbarie. ¡Já! ¿Pero es así realmente? Frente a las terribles noticias que nos llegan desde los despachos vemos como la gente de a pie se está volcando. Hemos visto a voluntarios de todas partes ir a los puntos clave para ayudar. Socorristas, médicos, payasos, abuelas griegas dando de comer a los bebés... y voluntarios sin más. Gente normal que se desespera y tiene que hacer algo. Porque es lo lógico. Al fin y al cabo lo que queremos la gran mayoría de la gente es vivir, y hacerlo con tranquilidad con la gente que queremos. Hace pocos días leíamos esta noticia, El 84% de españoles quieren ayudar a los refugiados Campañas de recogida de zapatos, de porta-bebés, de comida... y casi todo gestionado por ONG pequeñas o asociaciones que han ido surgiendo sobre la marcha. Pero no basta. Porque pasan los días y nada cambia. Ni en origen ni en frontera. ¿Y esos 10.000 niños perdidos? ¿No es escandaloso que ya ni se nombren ni se sepa nada? De momento algo que sí podemos hacer es mostrar si estamos de acuerdo o no con lo firmado entre UE y Turquía, un canje de intereses en el que no se mira para nada los intereses de los afectados.
