This week saw the unveiling of an exciting new addition to our Harefield West London rehoming centre - a Sensory Garden for our four-legged friends! Former Dogs Trust and current Blue Peter dog Barney, who was rehomed from the centre in 2009 by presenter Helen Skelton, had the honour of being the first dog to 'test out' the garden and the film was shown during the show's Tuesday episode. Helen and Barney spent the day getting their hands (and paws) dirty by helping to complete the Sensory Garden, which will provide a rich source of entertainment for the dogs cared for at the centre. Our CEO, Clarissa Baldwin said: “At Dogs Trust, we strive to make life for the dogs in our care as enjoyable as possible and already they benefit from exceptional facilities and incredibly loving staff. "We are continually improving exercise facilities at our rehoming centres and the Sensory Garden takes this to another level. It provides an area packed with sensory and mental stimulation, with alternatives to the exercise and entertainment opportunities currently available. Here dogs can indulge in normal behaviour, reducing kennel related stress and improving their overall quality of life.” All dogs being cared for at the rehoming centre will benefit from this exciting new play area. But for those that have been deprived or even neglected in some way it will be especially important, because stimulation of the senses is a vital part of any rehabilitation programme. The 550 square metre garden, which was masterminded by Blue Peter TV gardener Chris Collins and Harefield Manager Richard Moore, includes: A dog paw sensory area featuring a range of different materials and textures for the dogs to explore, including sand, pebbles, bark and water. A hilly grass maze containing tunnels and wooden pontoons for the dogs to run over and explore. Interactive games where dogs can seek out toys and treats. Several bedded areas with colourful and scented plants to delight the dogs' senses. A grass bank with logs embedded into it so that when balls are thrown into it, a giant pin ball style game is formed. The Sensory Garden has been funded entirely by donations from kind-hearted animal lovers. We plan to continue raising funds which will be used to install a variety of water features and hope to have this completed in time for summer 2011, so that the doggy residents can enjoy playing in the water during hot weather. We would like to thank the following for their assistance with the project. Crescent Building Supplies in Ruislip donated materials Future Buildings provided services and equipment free of charge Interserve and Thames Water donated several large concrete pipes with free delivery Rolawn provided a generous discount on all turfHead to BBC iPlayer and you can check out the programme free online for the next few days!

*Announcement* We are very pleased to announce that we are expecting our F and G litters in March 2021! Truevine Deretha and Truevine Columbina are both expecting! Proud dad Brumeux Le Dieu Bleu (Ovin) is our resident stud who is now on a little break for the next 12 months. Please note: we give priority to homes where there is a cat proof garden, or where owners are willing to make their gardens cat proof with help and advice. We do not under any circumstances allow kittens to go to homes where they will be allowed to go outside unsupervised no matter how safe or quiet the area. We are sure you will understand that we want the best for our kittens, and their safety must always come first. Nebelungs make fantastic pets and companions, and you can't do better than welcoming one into your home! All of our kittens are ready to go to their new homes at 16 weeks, neutered, with the following: -Full GCCF and TICA registration papers -A copy of their pedigree -4 weeks of free pet insurance with Agria -A sample bag of the food they are eating -A few favourite toys and a blanket from home -Full vaccination records -A contract about their health, and about the requirement to re-home back to us should it become necessary to find them a new home in future -Flea and tick prevention applied and having been given wormer -A copy of their kitten photos We require kitten buyers visit our home before committing to a kitten, and we take a 50% deposit when a commitment is made. We DO NOT sell for breeding, and we only sell pairs, or singletons into a home where there is already a cat. It is not healthy for our cats to live completely alone, they are sociable and need interaction with cats as well as humans. We expect new kitten buyers to visit us in our home to meet the adult cats and see whether Nebelungs are the right breed for you. We also expect a lifelong relationship when we sell a kitten to a new home, as kittens are extended members of our family too. Coming to meet us and the cats ensures there is a good fit all around. We perform a home visit as well before kittens go to new homes. Our 2021 kitten prices are £1000 for a single kitten, or £1800 for a pair going together. We feel this is a fair price for dual registered pedigree kittens of a rare breed, and only slightly higher than average for equivalent Russian Blue kittens in the UK. We do courier kittens ourselves to international locations, by flying with them or driving where possible. Of course during the current pandemic this is unlikely to be possible. In other times, it would involves taking the train to Amsterdam, where we can fly with them in the cabin to anywhere in the world. Courier service to outside the UK does involve a significant additional cost, and kittens will be slightly older before they can be delivered due to the need for PET passport and rabies vaccination.
