# The "Pietà", latin for "Pity", is an artwork (usually a sculpture) that depicts Jesus' dying body being held by the Virgin Mary. It is also commonly written as "Pieta" (without the grave accent on 'a'). # This particular one is the most famous one of all such Peita works and was done by Michelangelo in 1499. Made of marble completely, it is presently in the St. Peter's Basilica in the Vatican. # Michelangelo's interpretation of the Pietà was far different from those previously created by other artists - he sculpted a young and beautiful Mary (as shown) rather than an older woman around 50 years of age.

Vochatzer initially delved into surrealism as a teenaged oil painter “fruitlessly trying to emulate Salvador Dali”- since then, he has only further pursued “bizarre and fantastical” aesthetics, which converge powerfully in his works.
