Goggles & Dust: As Europe emerged from the ashes of World War I, cycling, especially stage racing through the countryside and over snowy mountain peaks, united communities and nations. For a continent ravaged by two catastrophic wars, bicycle races like the Tour...
I used to live and race bikes in Belgium - the spiritual home of bike racing. The feeling of riding up the Muur van Geraardsbergen was like no other. The small chapel (kapel) at the top has a unique place in cycling history. I wanted to illustrate that famous building in a stylized way that pays homage to the race's roots. Any race ridden over cobblestones is a challenge, but the Tour of Flanders is arguably the toughest of all. The riders face a total of eighteen cobbled climbs, each of them notorious not just for their difficulty, but for the many years of history they have observed since the first edition of the Ronde back in 1913. All of the designs I sell on here are things I originally made for myself or friends and family. The subjects and style reflect my interests and taste: Mid-century children's book illustrations and posters, Eastern European matchbox art, my home city of Glasgow and other places I've lived (London, Belgium, Kenya), cycling and cinema. I have this one hanging on the wall in the room I ride my indoor bike. It would make a great gift for a cycling fan. Sold unframed, this is a fine art Giclée print made using specialist archival pigment inks and acid-free paper for excellent depth of colour, longevity and stability. An old program for the 1948 Six Day bike races at the Armory, which sold out to 9,000 viewers, and later housed 14,000 viewers.
There can’t be many sports where the photographers are as well known as some of the participants, but to many cycling fans in the English speaking world Graham Watson is a name as familiar as many of the riders. Road Cycling UK grabbed a couple of hours with him between races to find out how […]

Photo Special: Cadel Evans' career has been long, very long, so there are even more photos of the Tour and World championship winner to chose from. He had the class to change from mountain biker to road rider and carry on winning. We have tried to cover Cadel's life on two wheels, but it could fill PEZ for months!
Italian 6-day bike stars Gaetano Belloni (left) and Franco Georgetti pose for the camera with their track bikes at Newark Velodrome. They're in New York in 1926 to compete in the Madison Square Garden event. Gaetano was an extremely accomplished road cyclist too. The highlights of his career included his overall win in the 1920 Giro d'Italia, two victories in Milan – San Remo (1917 and 1920), and three victories in the Giro di Lombardia (1915, 1918 and 1928). The 1920 Giro stages averaged 330k! Franco won a gold medal for Italy in the team pursuit in the 1920 Antwerp Olympic Games.

Photos by Robin Nilssen Yeah, go ahead and file this under "oh my fucking god". So it seems that a plane, loaded with NOS Cinelli Lasers crash-landed in Stockholm many years ago. On an epic journey through the forests, in search of ancient runes, Sönkes came across the mangled vessel, only to find all of the bikes were destroyed, save for one. He took it home and found it to be in incredible, NOS condition. Knowing that the Italians (or that Aussie) would be on his tail, he took it to Robin's studio for documentation. Check out more shots of this Beautiful…
