This wall hanging was woven using mostly silk ribbons and silk fabric. Wool yarn, hand spun yarn, and specialty fibers were add to the weaving. The color scheme is a soft Shabby Chic with little pops of color. Added to the bottom are Mother of Pearl disks to add some texture and movement. And finally, I added 3 handmade pottery buttons that resemble little wood pieces.
Handmade woven wall hanging "Maeve", made in Ottawa, Ontario. Materials: merino wool, synthetic wool, cotton (rope, string), ribbons, wooden dowel (12" long)
I've named this wall hanging Coastal Lavendar. It was hand woven using the lots of lovely textured yarns, including hand spun yarn with a touch of sparkle, recycled sari silk ribbons, silk velvet and merino wool, all sourced from small businesses. It hangs on a lovely piece of driftwood sourced from the west coast of Scotland. The size of the actual weave is 54cm from the top of the driftwood to the bottom of the fringe and 27cm at its widest point. The driftwood length is 31cm.
Created from an antique Regency stripe silk brocade with miniature floral motif. Embellished with original 18th century Georgian silk dress trim with chenille and silk floss rosebud edging, and primrose silk ribbon rococo trim. Formed on our extended pointed-toe lasts, these beauties extend several cms beyond the natural toe line, creating an elegant elongated effect. Although there is only one pair available, they are offered with or without toning silk satin ankle ribbons. (Please note that if you select the ribbon option there will be a 5 day delay to dispatch to allow for the silk ribbons to be made to order.) The fabric is mounted on a soft suede inner lining. Sole and 1cm block heel are man-made. The ingredients Please be aware that these shoes are created from or incorporate antique textiles, which have often had a previous life extending back centuries, so consequently there may be the odd minor smudge or tiny pin prick to the surface of the fabric. These in no way impinge on their beauty, and you can be sure that they do not compromise the integrity of the material. Any little area of actual damage or thinning is repaired with a tiny embroidered patch (one of my favourite features!), and this is always clearly mentioned in the description. The textile has been treated with an eco-friendly stain guard, based on nano-technology, (and containing absolutely none of those hideous PFOAs that have been slowly poisoning the environment over the last 70 years) which will help to protect the surface of the fabrics from stains, but it should be noted that these couture materials need to be respected and treated with care. IMPORTANT: Please be sure to read both our shipping and refund policy pages before placing an order (links to both at foot of page). By placing an order you are indicating you have rea and accepted these terms. Sustainability Every time a pair of shoes is purchased a donation is made via Ecologi to both offset the carbon involved in production and shipping and make a positive net contribution to combating climate change....that's 10 trees planted for each pair sold. Packaging Each pair of shoes is nestled in a high quality presentation box made from 92% recycled materials which can be wholly recycled at end of life (once ribbon and magnetic closure have been removed and recycled separately). Essential as recycling is, it is not carbon neutral, so I wanted the boxes to have as long an after-life as possible. The sturdy construction and minimal branding make them really attractive keepsake and storage boxes that hopefully will prove useful for many years to come. The lid is handstamped with our beautiful calligraphy logo, and zig-zag shred (made from non-coated recyclable bio-degradable paper) is used for the protective padding.
This wall hanging is full of pink and green fibres. It combines many different fibres, including recycled cotton ribbon, the softest merino wool, some beautiful chunky yarn and plant-dyed silk ribbon. It is approximately 70cm long and 35cm wide. The wooden dowel is 30cm wide. This is a one off piece. Bespoke custom orders available.

On this block, the part I made is the wool embroidery (crewel embroidery): the big flower at the left bottom, the small pink, the leave and acorns and the light pink curls. --------------------------- Sur ce bloc, j'ai fait la broderie en laine sur la gauche (broderie crewel): la grande fleur rose, la petite rose claire au-dessus, les glands et la feuille de chêne, et la petite guirlande rose.

Well it's the end of a busy week! I don't know about you, but I'm pooped! But I'm pleased to say we've had some gorgeous, sunny days here in N.I. this week, and there's a lovely Autumn feel to the air! As always, the things I've been working on this week I can't show you yet (soon I promise!), so I'm going to give you a wee tute on how to use up every last wee bit of fabric shavings, you know those bits that end up all over your cutting mat after trimming blocks and hsts? We'll here's a cool way to turn them into a new type of fabric. As far as I know this product doesn't have an official name - I learnt it at college and it wasn't called anything then, but if you know the official name of this craft, please let me know. 1. Save up your fabric shavings & wee bits of offcuts that are too small to be useful (you can also cut up wee bits of fluffy wool, ribbon, sparkly threads etc.). Bigger pieces will need to be snipped down smaller. 2. Take a piece of plain sheeting/calico and lay a load of shavings on top. You can colour code your savings as I have done here, or have a multi-coloured mess! Make sure it's thick enough to cover the backing fabric, but not too thick to sew over. 3. Lay a piece of water soluble fabric over the top and pin/sew round the edges. This stuff is really cool - you can get different brands in a craft shop or online. I've used Avalon Water Soluble Embroidery Fabric by Madeira. 4. Now sew, sew, sew over the top of the w.s.fabric, either by free motion quilting or straight & wavy lines all over. Try not to leave any big gaps where the shavings can later escape from. 5. When you have stitched this to within an inch of its life, take the pins out and under a luke warm tap or in a sink/basin, allow the w.s.fabric to melt away (it goes a bit slimy as it melts off so rinse it well). 6. Give your new piece of fabric a good squeeze to get the water out and then allow it to dry on the radiator. 7. When dry, draw your desired shapes on the back and cut out. If you want to, sew more stitching on top to highlight details, for example veins in leaves, or sew on beads, sequins etc. 8. You can now use your fabric shapes to embellish/decorate cards, cushions, make letters or Christmas decorations etc. etc. The possibilities are endless! Another way to use this wonderful water soluble fabric is to roughly sketch a shape on to it & then put it into an embroidery hoop. Repeated sewing and shading with thread will close all the gaps, so that when you take the fabric off the hoop and dissolve the w.s.fabric you are left with a completely embroidered shape. Have fun & let your imagination run wild!

A handwoven wall hanging I’ve called ‘RUSTIC BOW’ as it has a lovely little bow in the top corner. I’ve used a variety of yarns, hand spun art yarn, merino wool, cotton cord, coloured acrylic yarn, lots of sari silk ribbon with a lovely shade of green running through. The drift wood stick measures approximately 39cm long, the width of the weave is approximately 30cm and the longest part of the weaves measures approximately 39cm. There’s lots of ivory, cream and beige in the weave with sage cream in varying textures to add interest. I think it would look perfect in any room to add some texture and colour. if you would like a custom weave making to match your colour scheme please get in touch.

French knots are part of the knotted stitches family and often used to accentuate parts of embroidery. They form a very textured surface if clouded together but look great scattered […]

I've been rather busy of late - busy marking student teachers' assignments (a task made less tedious by finishing off the Christmas chocolate biscuits!), busy creating printable teaching resources to go with our story animations on The Treasure Tree and busy creating an embroidered seascape. To start with I embellished (with the embellishing machine) various merino wool tops, silk bricks, ribbons and yarns onto a washed babywipe. This is it at that stage: The waves at the top are the microwaved dyed wensleydale fleece from here. Then I hand embroidered more yarns and silks on (mainly using lazy daisys, fly stitches and french knots) before adding beads to all represent the fish and seaweed. (I think I may be addicted to french knots!). This is it finished: It "grew" quite alot during the embellishing and is about 50cm x 20cm. Below are some close-ups of some of the detail (if you click on any of the images they'll enlarge - the occasional cat hairs are added extras not visible except through the camera lens!) It's been many years since I've done any embroidery so I did quite alot of unpicking along the way, but I enjoyed doing it and am quite pleased with how it's turned out especially as I had no real plan when I started - I think planning is something I need to work on! Now I'd like spring to come so I can get busy in the garden.
