With a vintage feel that boasts intricate details, the Evangeline Hand-Knotted Wool Rug adds the calming feel of green, tan and black tones to your space. Soft underfoot and hand-knotted from 100% wool, the rug is both durable and elegant in a design that grounds the room. DETAILS • Material: Wool • Material Explanation: Wool is an all-natural fiber made from the protective coats of sheep. Rugs made from wool are durable, yet soft and luxurious underfoot. Wool offers natural stain resistance, making these rugs easy to clean. Some shedding is to be expected but will decrease over time. • Construction: Hand-Knotted • Construction Explanation: A hand-knotted rug is made on a large loom where a master weaver carefully and intricately ties each knot by hand, making an incredibly durable rug. The more knots per square inch delivers a more defined pattern and enhanced durability. Hand-knotted rugs do not have a backing and can last for years if cared for properly. Because they are crafted by artisans, no two hand-knotted rugs are alike. • Color Description: Neutral tones with forest green, tan, and black accents. ADDITIONAL DETAILS • Pile Height: 2-3 mm
Over the weekend I finally started checking off some of my small projects on my list! Like I said in my last post, these are not super exciting projects... As a preface, I'm really wanting spring to hurry up and get here...and you can really tell that's the theme going on in our apartment right now. It's looking really floral and really girlie, which is not it's usual style. Our coffee table is LONG and I wanted a way to break it up and make it not look so sparse. I hit up a couple of local thrift stores and found these gorgeous gold mirrors for $1. I knew I wanted to use them for something, and thought they were the perfect way to break up the table a bit. more thrift shop finds...this milk glass and this little vase: and I found this little plate and funky gold pitcher for practically nothing... I also found this lamp for a few bucks, I liked the shape so I decided to paint it a light blue with Krylon indoor/outdoor spray paint: not sure if I love the light blue yet, this lamp is now on my desk {which is another project I'm working on...} Lastly, I'm almost positive this isn't new news to anyone {just to me} but I made that graphic pillow in the top photograph for $3.50 in 5 minutes. Also shown here: with this: Side note: When I brought home the fabric for the above pillow, my boyfriend asked if I had a thing for geometric fabrics lately...since he brought it to my attention, I took a quick inventory of my stash: Maybe he is right, I can't believe I have the same fabric in two different colors! Time to seriously lay off the geometric fabrics for a while. Anyway, I could spend hours in second hand shops... and most of these items came from a new one I just found. Anyone hunting at their local thrift stores lately?
Custom built-in bookshelves are always a welcome sight in a home. They're functional and take up little or no additional square footage. Here are some photos of built-in bookcases to fill you with ideas... and a video showing how to build them if you're interested.
Andrew K has a project that should ring a bell with lots of homeowners: What's the best way of insulating a room over the garage so it becomes useful, conditioned space? Andrew lives in Massachusetts, in Climate Zone 5A, and would like to turn the space, what real estate agents used to call a "bonus room," into an office. The roof is framed with 2x8 rafters and already has both soffit and ridge vents, but no insulation whatsoever.
These designer-approved home offices are here to motivate.
Feeling cramped at home has a limited set of solutions: Get out or grow out. That is to say, you can either move out to a new dwelling, or decide to add on to your existing structure. Or, in the cases of these real homes, do a little bit of both, by expanding your usable living space into a shed or yurt in the backyard. Erin and Nathan are the owners of a bohemian clothing shop, Tavin, in Los Angeles.
Designing a reading nook in your home can be the perfect way to transform an awkward or unused space into a cozy reading nook to curl up in.
Warning: You may have the sudden urge to declutter your attic and convert it into a book nook.

There's nothing like a clear counter top* It says, 'whatever is on me, shouldn't be...clean up your act buddy' *I moved the magazines from the under the stairs counter / desk to the floating boxes...and the books on the floating boxes to the ledge under the poster (The 16 foot counter has been installed in the storage room, but the curtain isn't up yet. I know what material I will use for the curtain...I just need to get out to the store...and sew...and velcro...)
