Working as an Instacart shopper can be a great gig, but as a stay at home mom or other person who needs a flexible schedule, there are some things you should know before you start.
So I found a traditional schedule of a 1950s housewife. I already do quite a bit of it, but I don't bother making myself presentable unles...
I've been a SAHM and a WAHM at various points in my life. Here are examples of my schedules, the difference between them, and tips I used to make them successful.
The first four months after Sam came along our house was a disaster. I guess that’s better than the year and a half it took to get my act together when I had Luke… Anyway, it was more than a struggle to get things done around the house just to keep it looking decent. My poor craft desk has just been collecting dust because I’ve been so busy trying to keep up on the daily maintenance around the house! But I finally found something that is working wonders for me! {click and print this for yourself!} I came across this great cleaning schedule from the Time Warp Wife. I looked it over and thought that it looked pretty manageable and it made sense to me because it was similar to the way I was trying to do things but was a bit more efficient. And since it’s easier to keep things clean than it is to really get down and clean them in the first place, it’s been working! I just altered my own schedule just a bit to customize it more to our life and home. {here’s a link to a more detailed explanation of her cleaning schedule} The house stays picked up and free of clutter more days than none, and I usually get some deeper cleaning done every week since I can manage things a little better. The only thing I’m still working on is the laundry…I still manage to end up with huge piles lining up in my hallway to wash and giant piles to fold every week. Probably because the idea of doing one load a day still hasn’t quite clicked and it’s easier to put it off. I really hate laundry. Getting started on this schedule takes a bit more time. The first two weeks it takes longer to do everything because you are really getting into each area and cleaning it well the first time. After that, though, it’s a lot easier because it’s not so much work—it’s maintenance cleaning. The bathrooms took me ALL day the first day. But each week it’s easier to clean them when I’ve kept them somewhat clean throughout the weeks. Also, I alternate scrubbing the shower downstairs with the shower upstairs each week so they get really clean every other week. And that is totally doable and much less daunting then trying to do it every week or taking an hour to scrub it once a month which is what I was doing before. Let me know if you try it! **UPDATE** Here are two more versions you can print off. The one on the left just took off some stuff that was more pertaining to my daily life. You can add your own details in those places. The one on the left is totally blank for you to create your own schedule if you'd like. School mornings can get CRAZY! You may find that you are yelling at your kids to get moving, threatening to take away some serious privilege, or even running around trying to get out the door on time. Source Well, ideally, that's not a good idea. Right? I don't like yelling at my kids, nor is it something that I believe honors the Lord! I am to be an example to them as their mom {but I've done it more times than I'd like to admit}. 1. Be patient and loving, actually TEACH them how to do their chores. Don't tell them the chore and expect them to figure it out. You will both be frustrated. Take time to show them how to do it and don't expect a 2 year old to do something that he/she isn't ready to do. 2. Be calm and loving - don't expect them to get it the first time. It will take doing this with them over and over {if they are little} before they can do it by themselves. 3. Keep them moving but give them plenty of time to finish the task. For instance, brush teeth and hair should only take 5 minutes, but you schedule 10 minutes! 4. Again, no TV in the morning. It just doesn't work! 5. Having a schedule or set routine always helps them know what to expect. 6. Get them up at the same time every day, and keep a consistent bedtime. 7. Don't expect perfection, especially with little ones. If their bed isn't perfect, it's okay. BUT, if you've seen they can make it well but are being lazy, that's different. And now, here are some of my kids' schedules from the last few years: My daughter's schedule at 18 months old Rachel's chores for ages 2-3 years old - "making" her bed, was ME pulling up her covers and SHE had to put all the pillows on it. My son's schedule at 3 years old {remember he couldn't talk or read - see autism tab above} This was when my son was 5. I would change it each day and post it for him. For my son when he was 6. This helped him in the summer to see what was coming ahead. As you can see, I've tried doing schedules all kinds of ways. Each one worked for that time and then I changed it up if it stopped working. Don't be afraid to change things! Have you ever tried making a schedule for yourself or your kids? I'll be giving you some help with getting school lunches organized next week and then I'll finish up this "back to school" series with MY schedule in a couple of weeks! Don't miss it!

So it was officially Summer, a week ago last Monday, and the kids are all out of school for their break by now. It's great to have them home, don't get me wrong, but after couple of weeks I am starting to feel like an all day, all you can eat restaurant🍽. Plus hearing "I am bored for the third time in one day," would drive anyone a little nuts😜. Also, WHY are they playing baseball inside......when it's gorgeous out??????? Here's a list of ideas to keep the babes busy.....and keep you from going crazy. 1. Join the Summer Reading Program. It keeps them reading over the summer, and almost every local library makes it fun. Moving around we have been involved with many different ones, and they have all encouraged reading with great prizes. My boys have gotten happy meal coupons, Barnes and noble gift cards, books, t-shirts, and more. Plus its peace and quiet for you😉📚. I try and work their reading time in when my youngest babe's taking his nap😴. Trust me, your teachers next year, will appreciate it😉. 2. Summer activities/camps. Keep those kids movingThere are plenty of summer sports and activities to join.....my oldest boys are in a strength training program through our university, and we are also in the middle of baseball for my son Jax. Many programs are available through universities or the YMCA. I have even found free activities through our community.....and with four kids hearing "free" feels almost like you've won the lottery.⚽️⛹🏼🏈🚴🏼⚾️🏊🏼🎾. 3. Pool Pass. We sign up for a summer pool pass. It ends up being cheaper than paying per time and we can go as often as we like and don't have to worry about how long or how little we stay. With a baby who naps still twice a day this is huge🏊🏼. We save money also by bringing snacks from home. 4. Make a list as a family of fun activities you would like to do for the summer. My boys picked a Twins game, seeing their cousins, football camps, and more. Plus it's a great way to start up conversation at dinner table🍽. We just bought our tickets through stub hub and got great seats for an affordable price by waiting a couple hours before the game💙⚾️❤️ 5. Limit Screen Time. We live in a world with electronics, and although nice & convenient to have, they are not good for a kiddo to be on all day. My boys have a limit on how much time they get a day with their iPads and video games. I monitor how much they have been on it by having them sign in by texting me on their iPads and signing out when they're finished. That way I keep tabs on who has been on what for how long.⌛️📱🖥🕹 Lastly, when all else fails you can go on Pinterest and find plenty of free summer activities to do. Plus many things are offered in the summer locally. We have done $1 movies at our local theater. They're not the most recent movies.....but a cool theater on a hot day for that price is hard to pass up. Don't forget to by your movie candy ahead of time (big purses come in really handy). If they're still "bored" I found a great tool using Popsicle sticks with chores on them to pull from......my guess you won't be hearing those two little words again. Enjoy those kiddos this summer......we are off to the pool......after a snack of course 🏊🏻🌤👶🏼👦🏼👦🏻👦🏼🕶
