Salvia 'Amistad' is one of the great perennial salvias discovered by Argentine salvia expert Rolando Uria at a plant show in Argentina. Salvia 'Amistad' first made its way to England where plantsman Rod Richards popularized it before finally reaching US shores. This floriferous Salvia guaranitica hybrid makes a huge 3.5' tall x 7' wide clump in one season...much wider and longer flowering than its predecessor, Salvia 'Purple Majesty'. So far, we have seen no sign of the stoloniferous trait of the Salvia guaranitica parent. The tops of the stalks are adorned with masses of dark purple flowers, each held in a lovely black calyx from June through frost...a hummingbird delight!

Salvia leucantha 'White Mischief' is an Ian Smith introduction...the latest variant of the popular Mexican bush sage, Salvia leucantha. For us, Salvia 'White Mischief' forms a huge 4' tall x 8' wide clump in a single season when planted in rich soils. The terminal stalks of fuzzy white flowers nearly obscure the narrow green leaves, starting in late September (NC). For Mexican bush sage to survive well north of Zone 8, the soil must remain dry during very cold periods. Salvia 'White Mischief' makes a truly stunning statement in the garden, being visible from at least a hundred feet away.
