A collection of stunning images that capture the heart of the Scottish Highlands
For the last 6 years, Scottish wildlife photographer Alan McFadyen spent an estimated 4,200 hours seeking the perfect shot: a symmetrical image of a kingfisher diving into its own reflection in search of prey. Last month, after 720,000 exposures he finally got it. McFadyen certainly snapped hundreds of other successful images along the way, but this particular photo—as it existed in his imagination—eluded him for years. “Kingfishers dive so fast they are like bullets, so taking a good photo requires a lot of luck – and a lot of patience,” McFadyen told the Daily Mail. The elusive Scottish Wild Cat is a tough character and one that has endured the worse weather and conditions thrown at it. Peter Cairns has managed to photograph this shy creature and has a very interesting website called the Highland Tiger which informs the reader about the difficult task of tracking and monitoring this endagered animal. The wildcat is of great significance to all members of Clan Macpherson, since it is has for centuries been the Crest of the Chief and the emblem used to mark membership of our Macpherson heritage and Clan. Immerse yourself in the vibrant and lush landscape of Scotland's Isle of Mull with this enchanting print. Evocative of the Fauvist style, beloved for its bold colours and vigorous brushwork, this piece bursts with life and intensity. The dynamic composition captures the essence of the coastal cliffs, as they meet the vast expanse of the sea under a bright sky. The canvas is alive with the resilient flora of the Scottish coast; thrifts, with their pom-pom heads of pink, contrast against the delicate white blossoms of sea campion. The rich greens and yellows of samphire plants pepper the rolling cliffs, and the meandering coastline is portrayed in a dazzling palette of blues, from the deepest navy to the lightest azure, suggesting the depth and movement of the water below. As your eyes travel across the print, you experience the formidable presence of the craggy cliffs, depicted with heavy strokes of dark hues that anchor the flighty brilliance of the flora. The wild beauty of the Isle of Mull is envisioned as a theatrical display of colour and light, inviting viewers to step into a world where nature's splendour is amplified to fantastical proportions. This print, a part of the 'Scottish Flowers and Flora' collection, promises to not only be a breathtaking addition to any space but also a tribute to the untamed charm of Scotland's coastal scenery. It invites an unending appreciation for the rugged coastlines and unique plant life that flourish amidst the sea-sprayed breeze of this enchanting island.
