Hi Hip Kit Club friends! It’s sketch Friday time again- this means that you’ll find a sketch below and several interpretations from the HKC Design Team members. Today you’ll see T…
First off I wanted to share with you all the New April Mood Board Challenge for April from Maja Design, it's a really beautiful board based on the new Vintage Spring collection. As I've mentioned before, if you'd like to play with this mood board and have a chance at winning a lovely Maja design collection, you can find the information on the challenge HERE. I've been wanting scrap this cute photo of my little Great-niece Kiera for while now....and I just knew I wanted to use that awesome fishnet chippie from Dusty Attic Designs....actually I used a whole lotta the Dusty Attic for this one. I used the Grass Clusters #1, Grass Clusters #2, Ornate Corner, Shells, Mini Bird Houses, Fishnet Panel, Birds a Field, Corrugated Card, plus a number of the New Dusty In Color Paints (Navajo white, Bisque, Meadow Green, Hot Chocolate and the New Mixed Media Crackle finish....AND some of their new Mini-roses!! I painted all the pieces white to start with...then used a variety of inks and paints to lightly color the chippies. The papers are a mix of the gorgeous Maja Design papers from their Vintage Summer Basics collection and their Vintage Spring Basics collection. The blue and white blooms I used here are from a bargain bin at Michaels, and I just added leaves from Dusty Attic to finish up the bloom clusters.....I love these for the perfect finish for a cluster. I painted the little bird house with Navajo White, inked with some brown chalk ink and added a coat of the DA Crackle medium. For the shell I mixed a little sand into some Gesso to add a little texture to the shell. I added a little sea glass to finish the beach look. For the corner chippie I did a little script stamping and again added the Dusty Attic Crackle medium on top of it. Here's a full list of the goodies I used to make up this page: Supplies: Chipboard: Dusty Attic (Grass Clusters #1, Grass Clusters #2, Ornate Corner, Shells, Mini Bird Houses, Fishnet Panel, Birds a Field) Corrugated Card: Dusty Attic Paints and Mediums: Dusty Attic (Navajo White, Hot Chocolate, Meadow, Bisque), Dusty Attic Crackle Medium Flowers: Dusty Mini-roses (Caramel, Sky Blue), Dusty Leaves, Petaloo (white flower), Michaels Bargain bin blooms. Patterned Paper: Maja Design ~ Vintage Summer Basics (1905, 1934), Vintage Spring Basics (April 7th) Stamps: Bo Bunny Script Stamp Rub-on: Daisy D's Other: Burlap, Cheese-cloth, loose buttons, Shells, Sea Glass, Bo Bunny Jewels Is everyone else as ready for the beach as I am? Goodness! We went to the Maple Syrup Festival here in Ontario and it was soooo cold! We had a blast and ate some great food but boy, am I ready for summer!
Sketch #1 for September, using St Nicolas paper collection, by Kaisercraft. Vintage inspired, layers, old world, stamping and more.
Hi all, today I have another page to share with you using Maja Design papers and Dusty Attic Chipboard (as well as a few lovely page accents sent to me from Lucy at Tresors de Luxe). As I was scrapping this recent photo of my youngest daughter, I was struck by how much she's grown up. I can't believe she is a teenager now (turned 13 over the summer). I miss her being my baby girl, but I also have enjoyed every stage of her life, this girl cracks me up with her funny sense of humour and quirky style. For this page I used a modge podge of Maja Design papers. I more often than not combine a variety of Maja papers, coordinating them by color rather than collection name. I used a variety of scraps in neutral tones and greens to make my rolled paper accents. I rolled up the scraps and then bound them with some twine. I added a fun l'il door hook on the side of my paper from Ingvild Bolme's Junkyard Findings. I used a variety of Dusty Attic chipboard as part of my page design, including a Skeleton Clock Frame, Foliage, and the 'So Sweet' title. For the frame I first painted the pieces with some white Gesso. Then I randomly dabbed on some 'Broken China' and 'Peeled Paint' Tim Holtz Distress Ink. I did a little edging with Ingvild Bolme's 'Branch Bark' Chalk Ink. Then I added a coat of Inksenttials Crackle Medium. When it was dry and crackled I dabbed on some 'Walnut Stain' Distress ink so that it got in the little cracks and whipped off the excess ink. I used the 11th of March-bs paper as the green background frame for my page and as the main background paper I used the backside of 'Flannel Shirt' paper from 'Walking in the Forest Collection'....this is one of my favorite papers to use as a nice neutral background, especially when I do some mixed media on the page as I did here. I used a bit of Broken China and Peeled Paint Distress ink pads on the page and added some texture with home-made texture paste and a Crafter's Workshop Stencil called 'Mini Damask'. The butterfly is an image that I printed on a piece of transparency and cut out. I wanted to keep my blossoms soft and clean, so I went with a burlap bloom from Petaloo and two white blossoms from Dusty Attic Designs. The small sugared dots are from Prima. The strip of lace I used on the bottom of the page and the natural floral cluster (just above the title) are both from Tresors de Luxe. I had a little fun with the title. First I gave it a coat of brown chalk ink 'Knotted Wood' by Ingvild Bolme, then I used some 'Waterfall' Stickles in the center of my alpha's. After it all dried I gave the whole thing a coat of gloss medium with some Glossy Accents. Maja Design Products used in this project: Vintage Spring Basics (11th of March-bs, 7th of April, 7th of April-bs), Antiglen (Kaffe på trappan), Walking in the Forest (Flannel Shirt-bs), Sofiero (brown dot). I hope you enjoyed today's project and hope you find yourself some time this week to get your Maja on. Dusty Attic Products used in this project: ~ Skeleton Clock Frames ~ Foliage ~ 'So Sweet' title chippie Thanks so much for stopping by my blog today, you ladies are all awesome, the comments you leave here really touch my heart, thanks for that! xo xo

So today I want to talk with you about friends! I've made many many online friends over the years, and so many in the scrapbook industry, girls on my design teams, friends on FB, my Youtube subscribers, blog followers and more. I get lots of emails with questions, kind words on my work and some of you are even so kind as to send me sweet gifts! On today's layout I used a package of Prima blooms that were sent to me from one of my sweet friends, Kimberly (from Hawaii), thanks so much Kimberly for your thoughtful gift, the blooms were a perfect match to the Maja papers I'm using today!! So, in the spirit of friendship, I thought I would also make my page about friends as well. This is a pic I took of my 2 daughters with my oldest daughters BFF. They have been friends since they were about 3 years old and are still going strong. For this page I used the cool pinks and deep plum/wine color papers from the NEW Maja Design Limited Edition 'Nyhavn' collection....with a couple bits and pieces of some of the other Maja collections as well. I love that this collection lends itself to so many different looks! I used 'Veteran Ships' the deep plum/rose color paper as matting for my background paper which is 'Strolling Along the Canal'. I did a little inking with Tim Holtz Victorian Velvet distress ink and a little stamping with a Martha Stewart Butterfly stamp and some Bo Bunny 'Distress Textures' and 'It Is Written' stamps. Here is a close-up of the pretty fabric blooms sent to my by my sweet friend. I used some Tim Holtz Victorian Velvet stain in the centers of these flowers to give them more depth and bring in the rich plum/rose in the background papers. As and extra accent, I fussy cut some pink roses from the No.VI paper from the Vintage Autumn Basics Collection. After inking I added some texture with some of my home made texture paste and a Prima flourish stencil, which incidentally was also a gift from a sweet friend (thanks Janene!). The chipboard pieces are of course, from Dusty Attic, 'Live Beautifully' title, (I just LOVE these new title sets, the script writing adds such a lovely touch to a page), 'Sweet Pea Border' and 'String Frame Set'. I kept the String Frame chippie natural as I wanted it to resemble hemp twine. The Sweet Pea Border I painted white with a dusting of brown chalk ink (Ingvild Bolme) and the title chippie, I inked with more of the TH Victorian Velvet ink....for the 'Live' part I added some 'Diamond' Stickles to make the title pop out from the photo more. I matted my photo with 'Raspberry Cupcake' paper from the Maja 'Coffee In the Arbour' collection. And I matted that with another paper from the Nyhvn collection, the one that looks like weathered wood called 'Sitting At the Dock'. The metal mailbox is a Prima Shabby Chic trinket, and those intricate looking butterfly embellishments are some pieces I pulled out of some of my old stash from years ago. They are Tattered Angels Glimmer Glass. I'd been hoarding those, and then realized, whats the point in having them, if I don't use them! LOL! Dusty Attic Chipboard used in this Project: ~ Live Beautifully Chipboard Title ~ Sweet Pea Border ~ String Frame Set Maja Design Products used in this project: Nyhavn (Strolling Along the Canal, Veteran Ships-bs, Sitting At the Dock), Vintage Autumn Basics (No.VI), Coffee In the Arbor (Raspberry Cupcakes). Thanks so much for stopping by my blog today, and thank-you to all the dear friends that follow my blog and my work, your kind comments are always appreciated, they make my day! xo

I thought I would share with you today a mixed media style layout I made. I've been on the Bo Bunny design team for many years now and have gotten to play with so many lovely papers and embellishments. So for this project I thought I would pull together lots fun fun Bo Bunny embellishments, flowers, wood accents, buttons, chipboard and trinkets. I began by choosing a favorite patterned paper for me, from the Happy Tails collection as a nice simple backdrop for my page design. Then I started gathering together lots and lots of embellishments from a variety of Bo Bunny collections. DESIGNER TIP: The beauty of this project was that I could use bits and pieces from any collection irregardless of the color of the piece because I was covering them all with Gesso (to get an even and porous work surface) and then misting it all with some aqua and brown inks and then finally giving it all a coating of gold paint. See the two blooms with the green pearl centers? They were orange fabric blooms that Bo Bunny put out many many years ago. Here I was able to make them work by painting them to match my page. Here is another view of the many blooms, buttons, metal trinkets, wood accents....even lace that I used to create loads of the deep texture on the page design. I also layered in loads of chipboard, above you can see pieces from the Modern Miss collection (flourishes, large numbers etc.) and again, it didn't matter what colors they were as I was using a mixed media painting technique that blended them all together. Once the project was dry, I added a few jewelled accents and some brads that were in complementary colors. Bo Bunny Products: Patterned Paper: Happy Tails / Happy Tails; Miss Bold, Selfie / Modern Miss; Doors / The Avenues. Chipboard: Modern Miss Wood Embellishments: Kraft Wood Cogs Washi Tape: Kraft Patterned Washi Tape Trinkets: Serinade, Serenity, Apple Cider, Buttons: Love Letters, Happy Tails, Modern Miss Brads: The Avenues, Primrose Blossoms: Clover Daisy, Natural Earth Pansy, Natural Earth Bouquet, Fabric Blossoms (older collection) Lace: Natural Earth Lace Jewels: Modern Miss, Primrose I hope you enjoyed my mixed media page and hope that I've inspired you to use up those odds and ends and create your own mixed media piece! Thanks so much for stopping by my blog today and as always I appreciate all the kind and encouraging feedback!
Everyone loves a little bit of pizzazz on special occasions, and these swing cards are just the thing to spice up your gift-giving. They are relatively easy to make and amazingly versatile when it comes to sizes and shapes.... you can even buy dies that will cut your entire swing card, fancy shapes and all! Today, though, I'm just going to show you how to do-it-yourself with a basic rectangular swing panel on a square shaped card. SWING CARD TEMPLATE 1. Start with a piece of cardstock measuring 51/2" x 71/2". 2. READ THIS INSTRUCTION CAREFULLY FIRST, THEN FOLLOW THE TEMPLATE ABOVE... Place the cardstock horizontally on your score board. You will be making four individual score lines - two at the top that are 1" apart, and two at the bottom that are also 1" apart. Each score line needs to be 11/2" long. As you can see in the photo below, I use a ruler as a guide so I know where to stop the score line. Start by scoring your first line at 31/4". It should only be 11/2" long measuring from the top of the cardstock. Now make another line in the same way at 41/4". 3. To make the bottom two score lines you will need to do the same thing, but measure 11/2" up from the bottom of the cardstock. Make your third score line at 31/4", and your fourth score line at 41/4". Refer to the template above. 4. Use a craft knife or trimmer to cut the swing panel. (Refer to the template for placement and length of cuts.) The first vertical cut is 21/2" long and starts 13/4" from the left hand side of the card and 11/2" from the top. The second vertical cut is 21/2" long and starts 43/4" from the left hand side of the card and 11/2" from the top. Now you need to cut horizontally from the top of the first vertical cut to the top of the second vertical cut WITHOUT cutting between the score lines. Do the same for the bottom section remembering not to cut between the score lines. Your card should now look like the photo below. 5. Fold and crease along the score lines. The card base is now complete and the centre panel should swing as it is opened and closed. 6. To decorate, cut some patterned papers for the inside of the card, removing the sections around the flip panel. You'll also need two panels for the swinging section of the card... one for the front and one for inside. 7. Stamp and colour the two image panels as desired. 8. Now adhere all the papers and panels in place. Remember to fully OPEN the card to place the inside panel. 9. Close the card and adhere the front panel in place. 10. Add any additional embellishments as desired. Stamps:
