Hello there, a few weeks ago I had a few of my lovely blog readers mention that they struggled to emboss with dies (as appose to cutting with them). So today I thought I would do a quick tutorial for you. I only have the Cuttlebug to show you on but the concept is the same with the other machines. What you need is a tan mat (doesn't actually have to be tan in colour but most are, the one from Sizzix is grey though). This is a sheet of rubber that causes the metal in the die that would usually cut, to bounce off and emboss only. You can get the tan mats from a variety of places, most manufacturers of dies sell them. Here is how you do it ... The sandwich for the Cuttlebug is: A Plate, B Plate, Tan Mat, shims (if using them), cardstock, dies face down, B Plate. I hope that may have helped some of you. Thanks so much for visiting me today. Hope you have a lovely day!

I like running my fingers over embossed paper. But I always thought you needed to have one of those fancy metal clamp/stamp things to do it with any sort of success. Apparently I was wrong! Greg Mathews has a post up about his experimentation with embossing, using only an empty mechanical pencil, a piece of paper, and a bit of cardboard.
Hello, all! Welcome back for Day 21 of the Holiday Card Series! Today I have a fun card made with snowflake stamps (I can’t resist a good snowflake) and emboss resist! Need a guide for card sizes? Me too. Most of the cards I make are A2. But, I have a stash of envelopes that are for various card sizes. So, here's a chart that I created with the measurements for the most commonly used card sizes. It's only 84 days until Christmas, so it's time for a week of Christmas cards. I had a party and invited everyone to come make cards for the holidays. I thought I'd show you what we made this week. Here's the composite of all six cards: We used all new products from the Holiday Catalog. And each day this week I'll give you the details. So let's start with an easy, but lovely card: The card base and layer is Garden Green, with the layer embossed with the Cable Knit embossing folder. Since it looks like a sweater, we needed a sentiment that expressed something "warm"--the Tin of Cards stamp was perfect! And of course we needed some mistletoe! So out came the Pretty Pines Thinlits Dies, which made the perfect mistletoe and ribbon. These are layered on two Whisper White squares--the Layering Squares framelits make this easy. And we finished with a little Silver Thread, making for a lovely embellishment with a touch of sparkle. All products can be purchased here. I love stamp sets that give you everything you need to create an entire card. This one just needs a message for the inside. Again, I used the Glitter Spatter technique to add just the right amount of shimmer to my card. If you would like to create this card yourself, I have my printable supply list below. Happy Stamping! Welcome to Makeover Monday!! Today's card is perfect for the Avid stamper. Yesterday's Simple Sunday card using the Mistletoe Magic Bundle is stepped up to create this beauty. Real Red Pear Pizzazz Basic White Before embossing the background with the Timeworn Type 3D Embossing Folder, I lightly added Pear Pizzazz Ink with a Blending Brush. Both images are stamped on Shimmery White with Versamark Ink and heat set with Silver Embossing Powder using the Heat Tool. They are water colored with a Water Painter. If you have not used a
I brought in a stamp set from the 2021-22 Annual Catalog for this one. I started out just stamping the full image as a background stamp for my Customer Thank You and Holiday cards! Well, I guess you could say I got way carried away and once I started heat embossing, I just couldn’t stop. […]
I love heat embossing, there’s something quite magical about stamping an image, sprinkling it with powder and watching it morph into a shiny, raised design simply by the application of heat. But while the theory is simple, results can vary and I’ve found that it’s definitely worth taking a little time if you want to […]

Welcome to my blog. Today I want to share a technique that is an oldie but goodie. The wax paper resist technique. It works amazing with distress inks. This tutorial will be featured on the Distress Ink Technique page on facebook. I am one of the admins and we take turns to post a tutorial on there every monday, the technique of the week :-) Well let me explain this particular technique. You will need an old iron to do this technique, or one you don't use for your fancy clothes ;-) This is what you need: an old iron, two pieces of card, a piece of wax paper and an embossing folder. Oh and an embossing machine obviously lol. I dry embossed the sheet of wax paper using an embossing folder and a piece of card to add more pressure. Here you see the pattern embossed in the wax paper. I cover the front and back with my pieces of card stock, and put this sandwich inbetween two sheets of cheap copy paper. You iron over the cheap copy paper to get the wax to melt onto the card stock. It goes very quickly. I put my iron on the highest setting and just move it over the sheets a few times. You can barely see it, but the wax print is on there! Trust me ha ha ha. See, I told you it was there. Here you see the difference between the embossed and the debossed side of the wax paper imprint. Left is the embossed side and on the right the debossed side. I inked over it with stormy sky distress ink and an ink blending tool. I turned them into two christmas cards with some embellishments and stamped sentiment. I stuck the card onto a card blank after I trimmed it to size and inked the edges with some walnut stain distress ink. I had this ATC laying around for ages, so I decided to use it as a card topper. Then stamped my sentiment in black and after that completely dried, I stamped it again but with embossing ink and heat embossed it in silver. On this card I stamped the sentiment in archival ink and after it dried I wrapped some baker's twine around the card stock befor I stuck it to the card blank. I added a little red jingle bell to give it a more festive look. I painted a wooden snowflake silver and adorned it to my card and it is done! Thank you so much for taking the time to have look and I hope you are going to give this technique a try :-) Have a great day, and keep your craft on ;-) Take care, Freddie Xox

Welcome everyone! I'm so excited to be participating in the Operation Write Home, Labor Day Weekend Virtual Card Making Party! Woohoo! If this is your first VCMP, let me just tell you how much fun you are about to have! Every few hours, another link will be posted over at the starting place on the Stars & Stamps blog. You can visit each stop and play along by making a card to go along with the challenge on that page. Are you ready for your first challenge? Go! My challenge is to make a winter or Christmas themed card for OWH following a sketch! My card turned out to be Christmassy, because of the papers and sentiment that I picked, but you could definitely do this with a general winter theme by using any wintery themed papers or colors that you desire! Here is the sketch for you to follow: I made this one up because it was such a good opportunity to use up my last little bits of some of my favorite papers. The 1" squares were done with a punch, although cutting 1" squares could also be done with any trimmer. (I must thank Paula for her awesome photo shopping skills and helping me with the sketch today! Thanks, Paula!!!) Here is my card: Running the mat with the inchies and white cardstock through an embossing folder was kind of an afterthought, but I do like how it turned out, with just a little bit of added dimension. Here are a few more tips if you are going to try this! Inchies are best when punched or cut from paper with small patterns. When assembling the card, start by placing the inchie at the top center onto your card first! Then place the other inchies around it, to complete the pattern. Don't get hung up on the inchie squares... I think that it would also be fun to use other inch-sized shapes to complete a similar pattern... maybe some hexagons or even some snowflakes! Maybe some of your stops along the VCMP will include a little bit of incentive! As for me, I will be picking one of the InLinkz participants at random to receive a little blog candy. I've got an adorable, brand new acrylic snowflake stamp that needs a new home. Isn't he cute? Single Snowflake by CTMH Can't wait to see what you all come up with! Play along by adding your card below and thank you so much for stopping by!
Happy Thursday! Ohhhh Lord give me strength to get through today! Today is the day I take Miss Alicia to get her immunization shots. Ugh. I don't now who's dreading it more - her or me! My kids and needles are NOT friends!!! Rebecca is getting a BIT better .. well … it no longer takes three adults to hold her down (seriously … took her for flu shots when she was about 5 years old and that's what it took … QUITE the ordeal for everyone within a 6 mile radius!!!) … but Alicia … well … let's just say we have a ways to go yet. The school DOES have a nurse come into the school to do all the Grade 5 kids but Alicia flat out refused to have it done at school. She said she didn't want to scream and cry in front of her friends. No. She wanted to save THAT special moment for her mom *lol*. Ugh … I say again … give me strength! Let's move on to happier things, shall we? … like Christmas cards. Christmas cards are happier things! Today's card is a total CASE from the talented Lisa Young at Add Ink and Stamp. Here is her card … … and here is mine ... It's such a simple, lovely, peaceful card. I just love it! When I first found Lisa's card it was, of course, using one of the stamp sets I had been eyeing up but hadn't purchased. Well I need to rectify THAT little problem immediately and my next order had it winging it's way to me. See, whilst I loved the set (Happy Scenes) ... … I wasn't convinced I loved the coordinating Framelits ... Oh sure - the framelits ARE fabulous when paired with this set ... … but it all seemed to "fussy" for my liking. I usually mass produce my cards and this combo wouldn't fit my needs and would likely just gather dust … so I didn't buy any of them. Having said that I kept eyeing up the Happy Scenes set and tried to justify buying it. Lisa Young to the rescue! This card was all the justification I needed and I'm glad I now own it. Here's my card again … For this card it's all about doing things in the right order. First off make a 2" x 4" wide banner with the Banner Punch. Place it on the Whisper White base and stamp the trees in Mossy Meadow ink. Lift the banner, reink and stamp the trees again. Stamp the sentiment from Embellished Ornaments in Early Espresso ink… Then take your Soft Sky ink - get some ink in the lid by squishing the lid into the pad - take a blender pen or aqua painter - pick up some of the soft sky with your painter and lightly shade the ground under the trees. Next lightly tape the banner in place (just a little tick of tape) and run the whole piece through the Big Shot with the Softly Falling Embossing folder (note - use the folder upside down so the "thick" snow is at the top of the card). Remove the banner, wrap some Gold Cord around it then reattach using dimensionals. Done! A great card for Christmas or winter birthdays (obviously using a different sentiment!) So I guess that's it for today. I better go walk Doodles before the *fun* of immunizations starts. I say again - ugh! Have yourself a needle-free, stampy day! Tam
