What do you see when looking at an unused fork, a screw, a car part, and other scraps? Most of us see something that belongs in a dump, except for Brian Mock, a sculptor and a metal revolutionist who is bringing reclaimed materials back to life in a form of spectacular sculpture art.
In an unprecedented act of blogging fanciness I decided to make a video documenting how I create the woodgrain texture (so thoroughly p...

Well it's the end of a busy week! I don't know about you, but I'm pooped! But I'm pleased to say we've had some gorgeous, sunny days here in N.I. this week, and there's a lovely Autumn feel to the air! As always, the things I've been working on this week I can't show you yet (soon I promise!), so I'm going to give you a wee tute on how to use up every last wee bit of fabric shavings, you know those bits that end up all over your cutting mat after trimming blocks and hsts? We'll here's a cool way to turn them into a new type of fabric. As far as I know this product doesn't have an official name - I learnt it at college and it wasn't called anything then, but if you know the official name of this craft, please let me know. 1. Save up your fabric shavings & wee bits of offcuts that are too small to be useful (you can also cut up wee bits of fluffy wool, ribbon, sparkly threads etc.). Bigger pieces will need to be snipped down smaller. 2. Take a piece of plain sheeting/calico and lay a load of shavings on top. You can colour code your savings as I have done here, or have a multi-coloured mess! Make sure it's thick enough to cover the backing fabric, but not too thick to sew over. 3. Lay a piece of water soluble fabric over the top and pin/sew round the edges. This stuff is really cool - you can get different brands in a craft shop or online. I've used Avalon Water Soluble Embroidery Fabric by Madeira. 4. Now sew, sew, sew over the top of the w.s.fabric, either by free motion quilting or straight & wavy lines all over. Try not to leave any big gaps where the shavings can later escape from. 5. When you have stitched this to within an inch of its life, take the pins out and under a luke warm tap or in a sink/basin, allow the w.s.fabric to melt away (it goes a bit slimy as it melts off so rinse it well). 6. Give your new piece of fabric a good squeeze to get the water out and then allow it to dry on the radiator. 7. When dry, draw your desired shapes on the back and cut out. If you want to, sew more stitching on top to highlight details, for example veins in leaves, or sew on beads, sequins etc. 8. You can now use your fabric shapes to embellish/decorate cards, cushions, make letters or Christmas decorations etc. etc. The possibilities are endless! Another way to use this wonderful water soluble fabric is to roughly sketch a shape on to it & then put it into an embroidery hoop. Repeated sewing and shading with thread will close all the gaps, so that when you take the fabric off the hoop and dissolve the w.s.fabric you are left with a completely embroidered shape. Have fun & let your imagination run wild!
If you've been around since the beginning of Lo & Behold Stitchery, you might remember that key fobs were my JAM. Back in the early days, I cranked out SO many key fobs in all sorts of variations and stocked my Etsy shop with them. They are super fun to make and very quick and rewarding! I eventually phased out of making them for sale, but I do still really enjoy making one from time to time! They make great teacher gifts, stocking stuffers, party favors....whatever you'd like! All you need is some scrap fabric, scrap batting and a key ring (which you probably already have!) Gather all of your supplies and lets get to it! PS - Looking for a printable PDF? I have this tutorial condensed into six lovely, printable pages for your convenience. Download it here. . . One of a kind, hand knit scrap beanies made from leftover yarn scraps (all wool and acrylic blends). If you would like a general color scheme, please specify in the personalization box, otherwise it'll be knitted with a random assortment of colors from my scrap collection! One size fits most heads – feel free to message me if you’d like it made larger or smaller! Great for camping, before and after a surf session, sitting around the bonfire, casual wear, etc. For best long lasting results, treat your beanie gently and kindly: you can leave it outside the shower and allow the steam to get rid of any campfire smells or leave it outside to air dry. It is best to hand wash your beanie so the yarn stays nicely intact and nothing falls apart. Machine wash not recommended! For solid colors, variegated colors, or more "themed" multi-color beanies, check out the other listings in my shop!

Welcome to the 2nd full week in September...if that doesn't make you feel like Christmas will be here ASAP, I'm not sure what will! One thing I am glad about it being September already is A NEW HOLIDAY EXPRESSIONS for us to pore over and order all the pretty things...lol. To help you see some snippets into this Holiday Expressions, twenty-one CTMH Consultants have come together to have a Blog Hop showing you various things we've fallen in LOVE with! This blog hop is much like our SOTM Blog Hops in that it's a round-robin type hop...you get on where can and hop 'till you get back to where you started! If my blog isn't your first stop, you should be coming from Carrie's Blog. I have LOTS of goodies to show you guys from my Extravaganza presentation but I decided to make something from scratch for the occasion. The Boutique line has become one of my FAVORITES and I'm really not sure why because I'm not a flowery person but these colors and delicate flowers just tug at my creative strings! Here's a look at a layout I made using the Boutique line and some stamp sets... ------------------------------------------------ I started with 2x2 squares of the GORGEOUS B&T papers then separated the squares by stamping one of the border stamps in the Boutique Card-Making stamp set. I used the NEW Watercolor Impressions stamp set to add some color behind the "you make my heart happy" sentiment... -------------------------------------- I also used the Bunches of Love stamp set and the Boutique Puffy Stickers for this flower...see what I mean about "delicate"...I used our NEW Peach & Mint Inks for this flower and I'm soooo in LOVE with the result! Now, all that's left to do is find somewhere to hide some journalling...might even let my QT tell me what to write since this photo is so dear to him! Thanks for hopping by...your next stop on this CREATIVE train is the talented Darlys....go see what she has to share and leave some LOVE along the way!

Hello friends! At the beginning of 2021, I decided to try something different. Whenever I finish off a 6x6 paper pad, I usually have a few leftover paper scraps. I collected all of the scraps throughout the year and challenged myself to make a few more cards. This sounded like a fun idea until I

Hello Everybody! Hope you had an amazing holiday today! I woke up pretty restless this morning. I wanted something to do, but didn't want to work on anything I had to do...Go figure....So, I decided to pull out some chipboard and paper and make some travel wallets for my travel pals. An Airport Travel Wallet...Now I know there are all kinds of really cool travel wallets out there, but I wanted to make one that I would really use. Just something to use in the airport to keep everything I need in one place. My passport, my drivers license, a credit card, a little cash for tips and my airplane tickets. Once again all in one convenient wallet....Well I went to work on it...Here's what I came up with this afternoon. Please excuse the pictures as everything is packed up right now and I had to use my cell phone and an old white waffle shower curtain for a background. LOL! The outside pretty unadorned so that I can pull it in and out of my satchel. The Tim Holtz Idea-ology Compass Coin attached to a strap. Behind the coin some Velcro to keep it closed/ Sorry a blurry picture....The wallet opened. On the left, a pocket that holds a passport. A little strap attached to the top slips under the smaller strap keeping it closed. The right side of the wallet. This side has a place for a driver's license, credit card, cash and an accordion pocket for tickets and such. The front flap holds everything in place securely and a top flap folds over it with another strap closure. The Credit Card/Drivers License Pockets. \ The credit card pocket folds out of the way to a side where you can add some bills for tips. The accordion pockets for tickets, extra cash or receipts. The Wallet Opened Up... Well that's the wallet. Hope you like it and can find some inspiration from it...Have an awesome week! Jim The Gentleman Crafter Pin It

Have you tried a Stack & Cut before? It's a simple concept that really is genius. And if you like quilts, you're going to like this...and how simply the cards go together. There are any number of ways to do a Stamp & Cut. Some are simple and others just a little less simple. Simply stack up 3-5 pieces of 4" x 5 1/4" Designer Series Paper (DSP), cut it into several pieces in different directions, then mix up the pieces before adhering them to the card base. I chose to use the soon-to-be-gone Daff
