Help kids build healthy coping strategies with this bundle of SEL resources and activities! Students will learn about coping strategies, choose their favorites, and practice them. Coping skills are a necessary social-emotional skill to manage stress and tough emotions that we all need. Why Teach Coping Strategies Coping strategies are any activity that can help calm emotions and stress. Kids and young adults may often experience difficult emotions but do not have appropriate coping strategies for dealing with those feelings. Just some of the coping strategies discussed and practiced within this bundle include: listening to music, taking a walk, coloring, deep breathing, hyperfocusing on an object, using positive self-talk, practicing yoga, counting to ten, talking to a friend, taking a time out and much more. Practice Again and Again An important to teaching coping strategies is that they must be practiced again and again if we want students to use them when they need them the most. Use different activities, crafts, and supports to continue to teach about coping skills over and over. Several of the activities can be used as long-term tools for coping skills. That means students will be able to use their coping strategies cards, keys, or notebook to help them throughout the whole year.
