This document can be used at the end of marking period/semester/school year to support students in reflecting on their learning and school work and to set goals for the upcoming marking period/semester/school year. For each subject, there is one column for students to write about what they have done well and another column to write a SMART goal. SMART goals are Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, and Time bound. The areas of focus are: - My work habits and attitude - Math - Language Arts - Science - Social Studies ...and there are two other boxes for other subjects like PE, art, world language, etc. I used this with a group of students in grades 5-8 after each trimester. I passed back a portfolio of their work to look through, as well as a copy of their report card (I had them for all subjects--this would also work great in a TA group or something). They definitely benefited from some examples and pre-loading to start and with being held accountable to making goals that were SMART.

Put the PowerPoint on your board for your students when they come in to class. I always discuss the topic a little bit at the beginning of class. Time to gear up for a new semester everyone! My 3rd - 5th grade students use interactive notebooks to log information, activities, writings, etc. My 3rd graders use this set of rhythm logs in their notebooks. Page 1: Time Signatures - this is a "review" page for the students and the first one we glue in. In the "another way to write it" blank, the students draw the upside down quarter note that is used in many music books. As we learn songs, we sometimes refer to this page to figure out how to "conduct" the music. We also count barlines, measures, and point out double bar lines and repeat signs Page 2: Beat/Rhythm and One Beat Rhythms - this is a "review" page for the students and second one we glue in. The students are required to draw the rhythm into the "what it looks like" box as we review it. Students refer to this page often, especially to review the real "name of the rhythm". Page 3: Two Beat Rhythms - this page includes new rhythms the students are learning. Again, they are required to draw the rhythm in the "what it looks like" box. Note: Many educators chant the half note with "two-oo" or "too-oo". You can edit the pages if you need to in Microsoft Word. Page 4: Three Beat Rhythms - this page includes new rhythms the students are learning. Again, they are required to draw the rhythm in the "what it looks like" box. Note: Many educators use "three-ee-ee" for the dotted half note. Again, you may edit the document in Microsoft Word. Page 5: Rhythm Graph - this page helps the students relate the value of rhythms to the whole note. They use it as a reference when we create our own chart. I also have a pocket chart set up with the rhythms this way. (see below)' If you'd like to download this document, you'll find it for free here: Music Interactive Notebook Pages - Rhythm Here are some other rhythm tools I use/have posted in the room: Rhythm Values Pocket Chart Rhythm Values Look Book (beat values are written on the back of the tabs - students made these last year) Rhythm Values Pyramid - the students create this Rhythm Pizzas - each group is assigned either whole note, half note (two slices), quarter note (four slices), eighth note (8 slices) or sixteenth note (16 slices). For 8th and 16th notes, I divide the slices before letting students draw and decorate. We then use these with drums (one student holds up a pizza, and the others play the rhythm for four to eight beats).
