Is there anything more breathtaking and surreal than outer space? Often, I feel like there absolutely isn't. Maybe it's because of all the celestial masterpieces stars, galaxies, and planets paint, effortlessly sweeping us off our feet? Or maybe we feel this way about space because it's something we can't touch, tame, or change? Or perhaps, it's because of that nostalgic feeling you get when it's a warm summer night and you raise your head and look up at the sky and all the stars simultaneously remind you of how truly small you are (but in the best way possible)?

I'm super excited to begin our STEM Unit on the 5 Senses this next week! STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) is at the core of what I believe about good teaching. The only thing I would add is an "a" for the arts. But, being the musical/drama girl that I am, it will be added. This is the first unit I will be using from those developed for the OSPI website. Click HERE if you'd like to check them out. I attended a workshop during the Starting Strong Conference on STEM and my district is opening three new STEM schools within the next 2 years, one will be right next door to my current building! STEM is all about hands-on learning. The activities are relevant, only guided by the student inquiry, allowing students to draw their own conclusions, get messy and learn about concepts. Perfect for Kindergarten!!! We are lucky that in the State of WA we have some great new guidelines for Full-Day Kindergarten, stating that learning must be developmentally appropriate and value play. This is my goal as we embark on this unit. Along with the OSPI unit, I have added some of my own resources, as well as, this great unit by Kathryn Warner from Kindergarten Kindergarten! You can purchase it at her TPT store here. It's jammed packed with fantastic printables. I will be doing CLOSE READS with the Heinmann Raintree SUPER SENSES Series. Each Sense is detailed with realia photos for ELD/ELP Practices and bold new vocabulary. All of their books are PERFECT for Kindergarten/First Grade! Also, we will enjoy these other classic texts: And if that's not enough information for you.... Here's my new Literacy Pack available today at my TPT Store! Click here to take you there right away! Estonian illustrator Eiko Ojala (previously) brings a fantastic sense of depth and texture into his editorial illustrations by using carefully arranged layers of cut paper and shadows. The works are all assembled digitally, but the artist often incorporates his own photos to achieve the desired effect. Seen here are a number of personal artworks, branding projects, and editorial spreads from the last year or so. You can see much more on Behance. More

‘Stillness’, by Berlin-based photographer Monty Kaplan (Argentina) is a solemn and contemplative piece which instills in the viewer a sense of calmness and serenity. Devoid of any solid objects serving as the central focus, light itself becomes the subject of the viewer’s gaze.
Captured in the vibrant strokes characteristic of Expressionism, this evocative print presents Balmedie Beach as evening whispers across the sky. The canvas comes alive with bold, sweeping brushstrokes that create a sense of movement and drama, reflecting the beach's serene yet dynamic essence at dusk. The artwork is awash with a rich palette of colours—fiery hues of orange and pink merge with the deep blues and purples of the twilight sky, casting a warm glow that is reflected on the wet sands below. The setting sun, a brilliant circle of white, hovers just above the horizon, its gleaming reflection stretching across the shoreline in a path of shimmering light. Two silhouetted figures wander towards the distant water's edge, adding a touch of human narrative to the natural splendour. Their presence is small yet poignant against the grandeur of the sweeping landscape. Around them, the ebb and flow of the tide reveals patterns in the sand, rendered in abstract shapes and contours that mirror the broken sky above. This piece is not just a print; it is a token of the wild, untamed beauty of Scotland's coastline. Its expressive quality invites viewers to not only see but feel the bracing air and hear the soft murmurs of the sea—making it a perfect treasure for collectors and seaside enthusiasts alike.
Peruvian-born sculptor Emil Alzamora has created a series of abstract works of the human form which actually give the viewer an idea of how the piece is "feeling". Using materials such as ceramic, concrete and bronze, his featureless figures seem to actually convey their "emotions" to the viewer through their positioning and general design. Creepy!
