If you have a kid that chews everything, you're at the end of your rope... tired of buying new clothes, disgusted by the chewed up toys, and exhausted...
The other day, when perusing Fat Brain Toys, I came across Sensory Stepping Stones. Now, those who know me well know that I only cruise through shops and online stores for ideas. I'm not a money-spender, by nature. Immediately, my light bulb flashed on, "I can do this! My kids would love this!" My favorite things combined: creating, hands-on learning, and my kids! I cut ovals of cardboard and glued different materials on. Tonight I'll grab some slip-proof shelf-liner for the other side, so we can also use these on the wood floors, without risk of injury.Just glue plastic, wash clothes, make-up sponges, fur fabric, squishy wash netting, etc to cardboard. When it dries, cut around edges. Glue shelf liner on the other side. And you are done. Enjoy hours of activities! Use them for: counting; using descriptive words; blindfolding & identifying each one; gross motor skills-- hop, small steps, large steps, etc depending on step placement; Little Lad played with this for a loooong time, but the other kids all enjoyed it, too. I'm building up my "station" materials this summer. Check out other great activities at these sites: MPM School Supplies and The Educator's Spin On It wrote to let me know that they've used this idea on their site. Thanks, guys! I hope kids everywhere are enjoying it!

Have you ever been to the Children's Museum of Phoenix? Well, they have this awesome noodle forest and the first time I saw it I was already trying to figure out how to replicate it (in miniature). Well, here you have it! The whole family hanging our contraption. I should probably mention now that this picture below is taken from the door. To the immediate right is The Tree and Mailbox. And to the left is a short wall with a mirror hanging on it, and then as you turn the corner, that is the closet. In this picture you can see the whole top side of the "Noodle Wall" with the Super Simple Wall Hangings above and also a little bit of how we hung the thing. And, in case you were wondering about the paint colors since they always seem to be changing - we have two walls that are green (the North and East) and two walls that are Orange (The South and West). It actually looks pretty cool, and was completely determined by what colors of "Ooops" paint we could get our hands on. :) Want some details?: We found pool noodles at Bashas for $.65 and that was by far the cheapest we saw including buying in bulk online. We have mostly those, but then had to break down and buy some Dollar Tree ones to finish the project. (Those are the shorter yellow ones.) There are a total of 34 noodles making this the most expensive playroom project by far. We attached the noodles to some 2' by 4' peg board with some nylon rope that we strung through the noodles and the holes in the pegboard, tied in a knot and then burned the ends. We had to drill the holes in the pegboard a bit larger to accommodate the rope we used. The peg board is attached to the roof with eyebolt screws. We were lucky to find some rafters in good positioning. There are also six eyebolt bolts in the pegboard. We started with the rope only on the ends, but then added the center support when we noticed a definite sag in the pegboard. That's it. The hardest part was finding noodles! Oh well. We are officially the coolest parents ever.

It can be challenging to keep kids occupied during the hot summer months in Arizona when the temps reach triple digits. My daughter has been wise in purchasing an annual pass to the Children's Museum of Phoenix. This is an amazingly creative, hands on interactive museum. Voted in 2011 Parents Magazine among the Best 10 Children's Museums in the U.S. I couldn't agree more. As an adult, I could hardly wait to see what exhibit was around each corner. Probably one of the biggest draws is The Climber, which stands at 37 feet reaching up through 3 floors. Think of a very large maze, with gerbil like compartments leading to unique destinations. Like flying bathtubs. Even though I am afraid of heights, the grandma in me succumbed to the requests of my grandchildren, and up I went. Holding Noah's hand, I'm proud to announce I climbed through child size claustrophobic tubes and made it clear to the tip top rocket ship. The next big attraction was the Noodle Forest. This had somewhat of a Field of Dreams experience as you enter through a large room filled with foamy noodles suspended from the ceiling. You can't see where you are going or who is standing next to you. Fortunately Issak has a good sense of direction and kept me safe. One room was a completely stocked general store, with freezer case and check out registers. Good place for Kayla to get a head start on her shopping skills. As a family of foodies, we loved the pizza kitchen. I thought the fabric pizzas were a great idea that could be implemented at home with left over quilting scraps. With all the things to do at the museum, it was interesting for me to see where Noah wanted to spend quite a bit of his time. He loved water "painting" on this large slab of rock. Another idea that could be made at home. There is so much to see and do. One entire section of the museum was dedicated to "cars". Amy helped the kids as they made their way through the car wash. Real antique gas pumps and fun road racers. But, I'm not sure it was wise to let Kayla start driving a big green pickle. I'm already visualizing her 16th birthday.

We absolutely LOVE the Kodo Kids Light Lab! This light table is magnificent! The Kodo Kids Light Lab is a round light table that is removable from it's stand and can be used on the floor too. It is LED and changes colors as well. This light table is the total package! It even comes with a beautiful removable sand tray! The Kodo Kids Light Lab also comes with a beautiful set of wireless controls with perfect kid size knobs to change the color of the light table! It even has three programmable buttons to remember three of your favorite colors.
