What do you think of when you hear shabby chic? Distress vintage finds, salvaged and whitewash wood, pops of pastel, lace and feminine florals, shabby chic is often also referred to as country chic or vintage chic. The basic thing about this decor is upcycled or antiqued furniture, which means you can find old pieces at a low cost, or buy modern furniture at a cheaper price and give it a shabby makeover. Shabby chic style can be applied throughout your home.

Hello everyone, I hope you week is going well. I don't have any new photos to share with you as the garden has not yet reached the beauty of the shot above but the daffodils just need a few warm days until they burst into bloom and the tulips won't be far behind. So, I thought you might like to revisit our little Gardener's Cottage which is nestled into our garden. We had this cottage built several years ago and used recycled material for it wherever possible. The windows in the cupola for example used to be on our house when we first moved here. The inside of the Gardener's Cottage is mainly white so I can easily change the look with quilts, china etc. My husband built the corner cupboard for me and I enjoy displaying my thrift store china on it. The toile slipcover on the chair was a lucky thrift find...I am a fan of toile. These shots were taken in lilac season a few years ago. I am looking forward to the pleasure of lilacs again. My thrift store dollhouse( $20 ) spends the summer out here and has been well used by our grand daughters.I have painted the roof grey since this photo was taken. This is the other side of the room. It has no kitchen or washroom but is a peaceful retreat for a tired gardener or a fun sleepover spot for the kiddo's. Behind the Gardener's Cottage it is tea time. Or on the south end outside the french doors is a small rose garden with the chaise to relax while enjoying the beauty and fragrance of the roses. Well, I hope you enjoyed a little peek into the Gardener's Cottage and after it gets a spring cleaning I will share some new photos of it. If, you would like to see more photos with a different look you can click here or here and for pink lover's go here. If you are not bored yet you can see more of the Rose Garden here. I am joining Bernideen's Tea in the Garden Party as well. Thank you for visiting me! Carolyn

Homeowners looking to create a peaceful interior design that gives them sanctuary from the troubles of everyday life many times turn to the ever-popular romantic cottage style associated with bed and breakfast inns. Also called flea market style because the character and charm is found in the many treasures found at flea markets and antique malls. Since this style features a homey collected look, much emphasis is put on collectibles and handmade items. Cottage style decorating is meant for real living, which makes it perfect for the budget decorator! Creating the Cottage look can be done with any style home. A room should evolve over time for maximum charm and contain such elements as weathered finishes, faded florals, and furnishings with history. Below are some more tips for creating a cozy, relaxed, and yes, even a romantic mood. Just a word of advice...this is a style women love and men.....not so much, especially if you go overboard with the frills. Maybe for a week end at a bed and breakfast but not every day living. Just use restraint !!! There is a tendency to get this style confused with the more European shabby look. Many people end up with a combination of the two. An upcoming post will look at that style in more depth. pinkinki.net White wicker furniture with pretty printed pillows and flowers.
